Advice for avoiding puppy scammers ??
Dogsfevr replied to Woody&Julia's topic in General Dog Discussion
There are shonky mini long breeders especially those who bred for double dapples. First off have the parents been tested for PRA and VWD ,what colours do they bred ,do they show, Experience in the breed.Whats there dogs temperaments like As they are happy to sell East what is the agreement if the pup isn't what you expect on arrival ,refund/return policy . Yep Mini Long breeders are far n few in WA (I prefer Std Longs so much more fun) . Not all breeders belong to there breed club and that isn't a concern . I will send you a pm of someone to contact if your unsure -
Advice for avoiding puppy scammers ??
Dogsfevr replied to Woody&Julia's topic in General Dog Discussion
A good breeder no problems but it all comes down to your research, getting everything in writing .I gather the breed your after isn't available in WA ? DOL lol me any advertising place is never 100% guaranteed and some breeds do come with a higher risk -
Never had issues BUT we never worm at night only first thing in the morning given its a dose of chemicals & some get the runs

Yes because the trainer trains you and like someone mentioned about your previous posts the should know better option will make you fail each time so a good trainer will train you to understand where your going wrong to set the pup up for success

Looking for a dog with certain characteristics
Dogsfevr replied to wild_rose's topic in General Dog Discussion
It should be hard to get a dog full stop when you bring in a child with special needs then even more so . I truly think you are under estimating the time YOU need to put into a dog & not fully appreciating that just bringing a dog home will not work & there will be ramifications if your family doesn't do the process right . If you bring home any old dog & it bites your child what is your plan. If you bring home any old dog & it is afraid of your child what will you do If you bring home any old dog that will not settle what is your plan If you bring home a dog that is too active for you what will you do. Questions no matter what the lifestyle is going to is very important & it requires any future owners to be honest & in your case being very honest in your time you wish to commit to the dog both on keeping its education going to ensure it keeps fitting in well with a changing body langauage & actions whilst also giving the dog much needed quality time out ,the dogs mental health in this case is just as important as the humans . This shouldn't be a rush ,bringing the right pet home requires patience & passion -
Looking for a dog with certain characteristics
Dogsfevr replied to wild_rose's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't think its fair to bring in a dog & see if it will work .simple reality is if the dog bites the child what is the outcome for the dog ??Not a nice one . But there is some hope that we will manage such behavior You would have to manage the behaviour you have a duty of care to your little one & any dog you bring into a situation that you know will require special care and in all fairness a rescue group also has to be careful about placing any dog that is not suitable for a special needs child into a home . I agree with Rebanne that talking with his Dr,school & orgs that have a better understanding of your little ones needs in relation to bringing in a dog .If the dog doesn't work out what is your plan??Will your child not get upset if he has a dog then its gone ?? We have sold puppies to people with children with varying special needs but getting a pup was well planned ,the home had been set up with a good safe zone for the dog & in all cases there where other children in the household who where a part of the dogs life & all had extended families playing a major factor & where part of the puppy process as they all new that getting a dog was not going to be "normal" in there household but where very on board that the dog didn't sign up to be traumatized & that management was very important & extra work .All dogs have settled in well due to having a village support system . Maybe look at getting chickens .i think you need to source a pet if a must that will fit into the time & effort you want & are prepared to manage -

The dog will only tick that list based on the effort you put in . As you have listed an age of an older dog it will still require work to fit into your lifestyle and what you plan to offer it ,You will need to walk daily not a few times a week unless you plan to truly amuse it at home- 32 replies

I wont stop his issues ,that is behaviour

Think you need to take a step back ,In your posts you often say he knows right and wrong but the fact is he doesn't unless you have taught the desired behaviour . You say if pup jumps up you place him outside so ask yourself what is that teaching the dog . Outside is not a punishment tool outside is a pleasurable place but if you keep putting it outside because you feel the pup should now better it is teaching it no skills or right and wrong . Your pup isn't a mind reader ,it's at an age of exploring, gaining enjoyment from things it can do as it gets bigger but it has no idea that the couch is a no go zone . What it does now is it's humans sit up there and being a companion animal wishes to chill with them so you need to make the alternatives just as pleasurable . IF you don't reward the good behaviour pup will become confused and challenging ,now is a crucial time for setting up for success. Where do you brush your puppy

Anyone know what breed this could be?
Dogsfevr replied to chester1983's topic in General Dog Discussion
My only advice would be to register as the most logical cross .Tenterfield terrier could be in there If it looks more like something & thats what joe public can see then do so ,we get so many that come in boarding & they say its a *** & we have said if the dog was ever lost & you posted lost *** we would overlook the dog as it doesn't remotely look anything like the listed breeds . Hopefully she will settle in well & bring your other dog happy times -
Lovan for dogs; does it have to be dispersed?
Dogsfevr replied to ricey's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thyroid can create behaviour/aggression issues ,I would get it sent to the US not done in Australia. The dog may not have any issues but have seen some aggressive dogs in the past have there thyroid checked and there where issues and a dramatic change in the dog once on meds -
I posted the word cropped ,docked dogs can compete in any dog field . Dogs cropped in a recognised country can compete in ankc dog sports
-
I'm fully aware of the laws ,most are not . tails can be docked if born kinked, damaged .Breeders more so in Dobes have pups born in NZ that return to Australia so docked puppies can be purchased here that are legally done with the correct paperwork . Cropping is not allowed and dogs can not compete in dog sports but can attend an exhibition class ,schutzhund may be different but ANKC no
-
Costings I would budget around $8000 plus to import from a country that allows cropping . As for breeders you will have to find someone willing to run on a puppy until age of export requirements ,I think most countries it's 9 months of age or source an older dog for sale . Obviously there will be costs to house said puppy till old enough to fly . You can purchase docked dogs in Australia .

Without sounding heartless you won't need a big urn ,I have big dogs and they don't return in a large size. The people we use have tasteful options ,they provide a temporary option or more permanent. You may find it easier to buy a nice box and buy a Bullmastiff statue to place on top although the pic you posted that item can be brought from amazon

Anywhere in Adelaide that discounts for multiple vaccinations
Dogsfevr replied to BDJ's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am surprised that the boarding kennel does not accept the 3 yearly core vaccine where the canine cough part is still given yearly . They are behind the times -

Dogsfevr replied to BDJ's topic in General Dog Discussion
It's irrelevant that you feel you could point out health issues ,vets must do the health check to cover themselves not to inconvenience owners . Most who do offer discounts do so to registered breeders . Which vaccine are you wanting 3 yearly plus canine cough or c5 yearly -

Unsettled dog after going to dog boarding
Dogsfevr replied to Caitlin888's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would not send your dog to someone else's place considering your other posts about your dogs naughty behaviours until you have sorted those issues out . i would say going into kennels was a rude awakening for a pup that is in control of the household . Some dogs dog board well ,others do very well .Hard to judge on a one night stay as many dogs are unsettled first day until they have a routine . Did you ask the kennels how he was ,good kennels will happily inform owners on how there dog settled and any issues. -
Personally change nothing just give her time but above you need to give her confidence that all is good. So don't over do the spoiling just keep it plan and simple
