  1. Why would any sane dog owner want to not walk around the dog & ask about legal advice on defending when you don't want to report to counc?? You have plenty of options to keep your dog safe ,utilize them.If your trying to prove a point to this person then its not going to happen . If you feel you can explain your concerns in a civilized fashion to this person then do so without your dog . You can't be a bigger person yet not want to do anything,if you feel this dog is a danger to anyone walking there dog then report it .
  2. Have the vets considered EIC in your dog ,do you know the carrier status of your dog ,if the parents where tested then you should know your dogs status .
  3. So how old is the Lab & when you say a weak rear end what are your expectations of company or is it more a case of the family wants a dog that can do more than the Lab ?? If the Lab has issues then you need to consider your plans for time out & a safe area for that dog ,you cant expect a dog to be able to play if it has trouble just standing
  4. Personally you need to allow your dog to settle into its new routine, you need to see how often it may seizure & any triggers & work on restabilizing the dog into a stress free home . Also getting a second dog does not equate to "company" as the vet is implying .If the vet is suggesting stress as the issue then a new puppy may be all to much . You need to work out the pros/cons & there are alot of cons that need to be considered .& it isn't far to get a puppy & then find out it wasn't the best option . If you phoned us we as a breeder would tell you all the above before considering selling you a pup as we have to be sure its the right scenario for both dogs . Also keep in mind vets aren't experts in everything ,in fact if they where they should have explained that company may be good but also should be fully aware that other dogs in the house can attack your dog whilst having a seizure .In fact i would expect the vet to have said letting your dog settle into its new routine & monitoring its health for awhile is far more important especially as you have said you where all too busy for the dog so the dog suffered but now have the time to give the Lab a new quality off life & plenty of time. Also given your dogs history i would be inclined to buy local so if things don't work out you have them close by
  5. Rebanne that situation is very common,we have also experienced it
  6. Personally the advice to rush & buy a dog for your Lab is not how it should be done.I would be wanting to make sure the Lab is ready for a friend given its change of circumstances The Aussie Shep show is on in NSW soon ,it would be well worth the effort to attend so all family members can meet the breed . There are plenty of well known Aussie breeders around & making sure all health testing is done is very important .Yes i would expect to see picturees of the parents if buying out of state & all health testing done for each dog . I would be making sure what the return policy is if the dog arrives & isn't what you where expecting ,who pays for the return flights & crate hire,. I would be taken a step back & making sure the right pup is brought into your home not the first one you find
  7. We take them off & all this research is fine providing owners ACTUALLY cut them ,i work in a daily job where i see dew claws growing back into the skin.i have been sliced open far to many times by dogs with razor shape dew claws worse offenders being GSD & goldies . Each year research comes up with all sorts of things & claiming what we should & shouldn't do . Our dogs do not use them as humans want to claim ,all dogs will hold a chew or something ,for every claim they need them plenty of other dogs without can do the same thing successfully
  8. Bowen ,chiro etc etc you can source yourself .Maybe ask on here . I have used an excellent person in Vic for bowen i will see if i can find her details or someone may know another area. For example my old dog who has had regular bowen all its life as he was a competition dog started to chew his hock & create hotspots there .he actually has arthritis higher up but the nerve pain was lower down ,we have adjusted his treatment & he is on meloxicam (minimun dose & not every day ) & has stopped chewing . He has also started to lick his front legs as that would soothe re direct but cause other issues .All now stopped . He also gets red light theraphy, bowen & a few other things
  9. I would suggest looking for a Bowen therapist or even trigger point treatment . Dogs with arthritis can experience nerve pain as a result and chew spots to relive the pain or just end up tingly .Ven using rock tape or the problem areas will help diet can plain abig part ,grain free isn't the be all end all ,the dog may still be reactive to the main source of the bikkie .That may mean chicken, fish etc etc . Some find using an antihistamine a great help etc etc .Wandering Jew is a nightmare . So it depends what is being feed including any and all treats. Also the protein level etc etc . There are options out there
  10. For an average vet that seems cheap . Changes in the vet industry last year meant doing refills isn't as easy as before . Mind you i would be more interested to know what there doing about minimizing hot spots ,what are the feeding or trying to do to minimize the risk ??
  11. Taping is easy ,the chiro can tell you the problem area
  12. We use Tumeric ,have found that works better. Also consider using rock tape/KT tape on the problem area ,i have used with a dog & it was a great part of his healing programme ,

    what a mixup

Scanners are so cheap to buy any breeder should own one ,even pet owners could get one . When puppy owners come out to us to look at the pups the puppy selected is scanned & chip number placed on there puppy receipt, when pups finally leave pup is rescanned to ensure it matches there paperwork . The biggest issue is people just not scanning the whole body,i know some states listed the required areas for animal to be scanned & if people only follow the diagram its no surprise chips are missed ,it takes no time to scan all over .Yes some are faulty & owners simply need to pop into the vets & get the chip checked yearly & noted where it is located
  14. Are you feeding what the breeder suggested ,is pup being given a good time out period from the kids so it can nap,eat and drink, some pups can become so busy they forget some simple things or get so worn out there to tired to do things
  15. There is the flip side many people send emails that go to junk mail .Many people use weird hotmail/gmail addresses that go straight to junk we are very cautious opening them & i can tell you many use strange headings. We like many also had issues with bigpond being out last year & didn't receive emails . Phone them
  16. Qantas has weekend restrictions so check before you book ,Virgin you have to book & pay for the dog at the time of booking .Virgin is most likely cheaper at present as Qantas upped there prices last year.Just book a hire crate & all easy
  17. I think humans often read more into and expect things from dogs . Minis are companion animals people dogs ,love to be touched another that doesn't fit into that category won't enjoy cuddles . Its interesting when people come out to look at pups you get those who let the pups come up to them and others who think if they make them cuddle them they will pick them and love them more . One thing I have noticed more and more at dog shows with the general public is the trend to want to hug dogs or parents saying give it a hug ,why god only knows . I have a breed that has a circle around him ,don't invade his personal space he is cuddly when he wants to be other times he is my watchman ,always aware of where I am .That is the breed I don't believe all dogs are cuddly and I think humans often want to make dogs into something there not and feel if the dog isn't it's a let down,Each breed has its ways of interacting but many a human often don't accept it . As a human I don't enjoy cuddles
  18. Cairns are fab with kids never read any info saying they aren't ,one of the most popular breeds in junior handlers
  19. Border terriers are already promoted in Perth ,they where shown often in the past just not now . If you want show quality you will need to look East but im fairly certain all are very careful where there breeding stock goes & if they send show quality will expect it to be shown . I would suggest still heading down to shows to see the hand stripped breeds because as a groomer i can tell you now many people don't do the work on the easiest of coats & if you want to show then pet work compared to show work is not a easy job as rolling the coat needs to be done correctly & the seasons play havoc with coats ,it is work so best not to under estimate the work ,pet coats can get away with less effort
  20. Borders whilst great dogs do need coat work ,she will need to work on the coat weekly as I gather going to the groomers is not an option . They are a stubborn breed BUT do learn ,friend has two that excel in tracking . I would suggest getting a Border Terrier from the east . As to working Springers we board a fee and there not for the faint hearted ,the ones with owners dedicated to there needs awesome ,the ones who brought them as they have less coat than the showlines a disaster . like the border terrier with coat I would also look at a Cairn terrier awesome little dogs ,great with kids and can see them in Perth . A visit to a dog show would be a good thing Also Schipperke could work ,they don't have the looks everyone likes but great hardy dogs
  21. Its trial & error when it comes to supplements .i have used some with no difference at all, some have not agreed with my dogs & others fine. We use bowen massage ,red light treatment ,Equissage hand massage & rock tape . I will also use pain relief like someone else also mentioned i prefer quality time & if that means a shorter life in the older years i have no issues accepting that. My current dog nearly 14 started meloxicam last year ,originally only got it 3 times a week minimum dose ,this year it is now daily but well below the minimum dose he has all his life received massage etc etc . There are also some great dog liniments that can be rubbed on sore areas
  22. To be honest you would expect that ,the dogs are there own company 24/7 & i presume she is getting another dog to be a friend for the other one . What it comes down to is each dog deserves time & effort which she will need to manage anyway as the older Lab is going to get older & the younger one will require more effort & more time to keep its brain active so it needs individual time which is very easy as it can't go on the longer walks the older dog would do(i presume she walks them ) So the pup will need to be happy to stay home on its own whilst the older dog sticks to its normal & the older dog will want time out from the puppy anyway ,easy going doesn't mean a match & some dogs can be to laid back & get bullied so she needs to watch how the older dog deals with the pup but im a firm believer anyway on older dogs deserve time out & peace & quiet & the youngsters need to learn to be independent & happy to play outside on there own Most people get two because it makes life easier for them & they feel less guilty that there on there own so she needs to be more interesting than the other dog . Also depends what the other dog did that makes her say it bonded more with that dog & not her, depends on the kind of relationship she has with the current dog .
  23. I'm surprised that the breeder didn't sell with a sales agreement to spay age ,there are very few Mini breeders that don't sell already spayed or with an age frame and refund a spay bond but 2 is a good age
  24. Most will enter both unless they plan to show elsewhere or may have another breed over the specialty season. Im gathering this is in NSW during the Royal Show so many clubs hold two shows to make the travel worthwhile with eastern state guests
