Poll: Have You Ever Used The Report Button
tlc replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have never used it as I didn't even know about it till yesterday, -
$800 thats a bit over the top!! I don't mind if you add Byrons issues here!! The whole teeth cleaning thing has been a bit of a learning curve for me today after a bit of study up I have found lots of people actually do clean thier dogs teeth. I don't think the thing with my lot is too bad as you can see by the photos thier teeth are quite white and clean, I think the vet was just making me aware especially with Lacy as she had a little build up which she scraped off. Just for me to keep an eye on her in the future, which goes without saying my dogs wellbeing and health is my number one priority!!

I will definatly start giving my lot more bones now, like yours Newfsy, my lot are good with food, bones etc they know each others boundries and respect them, they all eat thier bones in a reasonably small area (thier choice) they have the whole back yard but stick to the one spot. Cooper is a bit different and he doesn't like to eat his right away, this occasionally causes a problem if the others are finished and start to eye his off, so now he goes in a big enclosure and its all good. I think when you have a little pack you have to definatly set the rules and boundries otherwise mayhem would surely follow with things like food and such!!

But isnt there a saying that you catch more flies with honey? Replying to one of these posts with the first line "Your an Idiot rant, rant, rant" isnt going to get them to listen - they will press the x button and take off but a well worded non-judgemental post stating facts and reasons may get them to hang around and learn more. Like it or not but there are still heaps of people out there that think you buy a dog from the petshop and that letting your bitch have a litter will "settle them down" - these people need education not flaming but I guess if flaming someone makes you feel superior then go ahead. What I don't understand about some posters flaming others is are they like that in real life? If they were having a conversation with someone and that someone said something they didn't like or agree with would they respond the same way they do on the forum? It makes me curious if online personas are the same in RL??

Well done to Jamie for being such a good girl!! She has a very long tounge. and she is so cute!! Ok I'll take you guys advice and go with number 3 thanks heaps!!

Hi, you have just explained a situation similar to my own, I can't offer any advice but will be watching this thread with interest!!
-
So by this do you mean only people with rescues and PB dogs should post photos and anyone with a purposley bred cross like me, should not post photos of thier dogs or have I missunderstood?? I have never seen anyone much dig at registered breeders or post about BYB Litters, but then maybe Im not in those type of threads. On occasion it maybe new people that do this but they dont stick around for long.

I just take mine off the clipper and brush the hair out of the blade and then out of the clipper part where the blade goes. I get mine sharpened regularly so they have a good clean then.

I liked that one the best too, but I wasn't happy with the blurred bit around his mouth, I used the 50mm and wasn't quite far enough away to get his whole face in focus. I think we did shop at the same place, I just wish my models looked as happy as your girl when they are modeling! Outside shots big smiles all the way but when I set a shot up they are quite willing but don't look happy about it!!

You got a much nicer reception than another pro DD forum gave me tlc. If its the one Im thinking of, it IS no longer!! PF, I always look forward to your replies mainly because you are passionate (as most posters here are) about what you write but mainly because I always find you the voice of reason, You always seem to get your point across, (if you are trying to make one) in such a manner that no offense is ever taken. You are very well versed and well informed on everything you post about which I think it great!!
-
WOW Husky you answerd my question before I even posted it!!

Is that only if the person making the personal attack is reported?? I never knew you could report a post and until now had never even noticed the little report button. I have had a hard time from a few people for obvious reasons, pms and posts, but I have weathered the storm and all seems good for now. I love this forum and I have learned a lot from being here.

I wont use this one but just thought it was funny...

Thanks, Love the pearly whites!! Our old dog also had great teeth, maybe the difference being that he was an only dog and had a bone practically all the time and he was forever chewing on it, mostly marrow bones. But with this lot I only give bones when I'm at home and I don't leave them with bones to chew on, once they finish the left overs get thrown out and they don't seem interested in them anyway.

It was harder to get a shot of the back ones, then the rest lined up to have a shot too, heres Lacys back ones Cooper.... on closer inspection his big ones at the front are a bit dirty. Tully Bronson How many times a week should I be giving them bones? I usually make sure they have at least one a week, maybe Ill cut back on the wings and necks and just do bones instead?? so then they would have bones 3 times a week.

That was amazing, I have seen it before but never tire of watching it. the trust the dogs must have in him is just unreal, especially the little one that jumped from the high thing. The crowd loved it!! I love the way at the end how they were all jumping up for pats and a treat!!

Here's a couple of shots of Lacy teeth, I reckon they look ok.

"Colloidal silver is a suspension of sub microscopic metallic silver particles in a colloidal base. " It is meant to have many and varied therapeutic uses, although as I understand, it is not scientifically proven and I think commonly rejected by those with more conventional medical based opinions. But I've heard too much good from its use to be able to deny it. My sister's dog - 13yo Beardie, had some teeth pulled and the Vet/Vet Nurse suggested using the Colloidal Silver to brush his teeth with to assist in remedying the gingivitis. My sister reports it has worked well and the gingivitis has cleared up. If your dog will chew bones (the other dogs aren't pinching them, are they?) then that's the best way. But if some extra help is needed then brushing a few times a week I think can help. If the dog wasn't eating bones at all and gum disease was present, then "every day" might be what's needed to get the situation in check. No definatley no bone pinching between my lot they do respect each other. Like I said the youngest takes the reminants of whats left over after the others finish. Thanks for the explination about the Colloidal silver!!

Every day does seem a bit excessive! I was thinking once a week?? Thats what the vet did to Lacy today to get a bit of the stuff off, and she was great she just sat so quietly and didn't complain at all, so I don't think Ill have a worry with cleaning them myself. I do enjoy all the aspects of doggy up keep, the grooming the nail clipping ear cleaning etc. So I guess the teeth cleaning will just become part of the regimine (sp) !! One thing we always notice with Lacy and not the others is that when she chews hard things, like raw hide chews, treats, bones etc she does kind of look almost like she is having trouble chewing and sort of throws her head up in the air to chew. I have never given it much thought as we just though it was a little quirk of hers? Maybe there is more to it and she is having trouble and thats why her teeth are not so good..... That makes it sound like her teeth are rotten they aren't it is just a small build up on a couple of teeth. Might see if I can get a video of her chewing??
-
Well I'm glad Im not the only one who thinks bones should do the trick! I came home and checked the other two dogs teeth and they look great, it seems just Lacy that is having a problem?? Maybe she doesn't get right into the chewing of the bone, although I have watched them with thier bones and they do get that side action happening, Pers I know exactly what you mean by that, its like they are really using thier back teeth to get right into the bone. I dont give mine marrow bones but rather lamb bones mostly the meaty (not sure which part of the lamb it comes from) ones that they can eat the whole bone but it takes ages and mostly they leave just a tiny little bit, it is like they just can't fit it in or it is the toughest part of the bone and harder to chew. Bronsons teeth are probly the best as he gaters up everyone elses little left overs and chews away for hours, he is a real bone boy!! I give them lamb neck on occasion but they seem to power through these pretty quickly. Erny what is Colloidal Silver?

Hi Guys, just to follow on from charleswentworths thread about tooth paste, which by the way is a big coincidence. I went to the vet this morning with two of mine for yearly Vacc/check up. And we discussed in great length the dogs teeth, while the youngest teeth were in perfect condition, Lacys Teeth were not as good, not totally bad but could be better, they have bones that they have to chew on for ages and also chicken wings necks etc. The vet likened the dogs chewing a bone to us eating an apple. So she wants me to brush Lacys Teeth, she gave me a little thimble type thing to use. So my question to you guys is 1.do you brush your dogs teeth? if you do..... 2.how often? 3.do you use doggy tooth paste?? 4. does your dog enjoy it or is it a chore? Our old dog was 16 and he had great teeth all his life and they never needed brushing and I am using basically the same diet with the dogs I have now. On a side note, I was a bit chuffed as the vet commented on how well behaved Bronson and Lacy were and how good they were with ear checking and teeth checking and she also scraped a bit of stuff off Lacys teeth and she said usually dogs don't tolerate that, and she doesn't see a lot of dogs that are so keen and easy to check over. So all the time put in when they are youngsters with handling etc does really pay off in the long run!!

I wish daylight savings went all year round. I know there are probley some who won't agree. But I don't like the nights when I work and knock off at 6 and its dark. I wish the dog parks around here were lit up, I'd probly still go...
