I am curious too to see how this would work. I know there are plenty of small and large rescue groups that effectively have an assigned area inside a pet supplies store where they can operate their adoption process and have animals available to meet, but the process of adoption is exactly the same as if the person attended the shelter -- it's mainly about making the animals more accessible to meet!

In a professonial grooming salon it is drilled into you when first starting out. I don't know if they express the importance in grooming courses (i.e. TAFE). I work in a salon. I also take lunch breaks. I don't leave my dog on the table while I am eating! I'd do it between dogs (finish one and then go onto the next) or I put the dog down on the ground (or let it sit on my lap while I eat :laugh: ). I'm at a loss as to what was running through that staff members head, and why NOBODY else said anything about it being left unattended!

:mad Utterly incredible. I hope whoever was responsible for him has decided to quit grooming, because they clearly lack the common sense required to work around animals.

Apparently an Afghan did come into today and was due on the 27th (meaning it was chipped), but it is no longer on the website gallery so it must have gone home.

Thank everybody, very interesting that most of you seem to think Pharaoh x. She was very timid in the pound, basically did nothing but sit shoved up against the wall and ate the bare minimum to survive. She is still a little timid, certainly pretty freaked when we walk off the property, it's just that she is super playful and full of energy and my dogs are 9 and 10 years old and are not interested in playing with her constantly. My Greyhound tears around the yard with her for about 5 mins and then needs to sleep for 12 hours :laugh: but Poppy keeps trying to play with her and even when they snap at her she doesn't get it and just barks in their face. eta: I give her bones and treat balls which she loves (very food motivated) and I try to play with her and her toys (as she loves her toys too) but she isn't quite sure what to do when I approach her and stops playing. She does however stand about 2 metres away from me and bark at my when she wants my attention and wants to play I've taken her for about 4 walks at the park across the road and but she is still very concerned about things going on around her -- other people, cars, loud noises etc. She loves to rub her belly on the grass (as displayed in one of the photos), but if she can see home she just tries to drag me back.

The pound had her listed as a Bull Terrier x, but I saw Whippet and felt she had a whippet type personality (but I am limited in my whippet experience). She could well be Pharoah hound. I shall upload more images for people to take a guess:

Approx a month ago I took on a very scared and timid Whippet x from Hawkesbury Pound. She has come a long leaps and bounds, but unfortunately has become far too boisterous for my two dogs. Her vet work is already completed (vacc, micro and desexed) and she is on flea and worm medication. Poppy is now an affectionate sweetheart who is currently sleeping on my feet under the desk. I reside in Kingswood NSW (near Penrith) and would ideally find a carer for her nearby so I can keep in touch with the carer and Poppy with visits if need be and assist in her training. She loves other dogs and loves to play. However I do not have cats, nor have I properly assessed her with cats, and she is not suitable in a home with free range chickens. There is no need to sign up to the rescue group I am affiliated with, we are willing to sign her over to another rescue if the carer would prefer. Any new carers would require a yard check prior to signing up with our group. Here is her PetRescue profile and I have attached a photo below. Only a negligent groomer leaves a dog on a table unattended. But this doesn't help bring your boy back. I have a fair idea which grooming salon you are referring too as well. Is he your only dog you had groomed? If you have a small dog you are most welcome to make a booking at the salon where I work in Kingswood. PM me if you want to have a chat about anything

Pounds have been working along side rescue groups for many years, and have used their relationship with rescue groups to further assess animals. We all know that animals can react differently in a pound environment compared to a home environment, and this is where 'release to rescue only' comes into play. The animal is released by the pound into the care of a rescuer who is then trusted (with a gentlemen's contract) to properly assess and work with the animal. Pound rounds took this trust and ran with it anyway they could to ensure any animal doesn't get the green dream; the green dream is the one thing on their mind, once that is dodged... well there is a new euth list for the week and it all starts again. Rescue is a round-a-bout that never stops. Unfortunately PR never stopped to think about what happens after the animals have dodged "being killed", because apparently there is no worse life for a dog than no life.

I listed 2 dogs on gumtree and had suitable enquires for one of them within days. Meanwhile on PetRescue I have had one enquiry for the other dog which was a deadend and these dogs have now been on there several weeks. IONO, I will still list on PetRescue to cover all bases, but Gumtree seems to be doing well for myself and other rescue groups.

I've not even really been bothering with PetRescue, but using other means as well such as facebook and gumtree. My last foster dog was rehomed via word of mouth.

My limited understanding is that if you mark the dog as 'rehomed', PetRescue assume it was done via their website.
