  1. Andisa mentioned her customers in that post I presumed from that she sold the product, nothing appeared hidden to me.
  2. No hovering begging or whining at meal times allowed, if they don't lay on their beds they are outside or crated. No scraps till dog meal times and then in their bowls. Children do not wander around with food near dogs. Guests do not feed dogs. Same rules for BBQ etc. Sounds tough but they are simple rules that are put in place and everyone abides by.
  3. I have had dogs for a lot longer than 15 years, more than double it actually, and I have never had to resort to your method to ensure the safety of children. Not one of my dogs has ever harmed a child, that includes large dominant entire males. I have never treated my dogs like children, they are dogs, but they did not have to be jerked around on the end of a leash to teach them, I don't use food either.
  4. Yep, up by 5am every day to ensure that all of them are taken care of exercised fed etc before I go to work, days off spent bathing, vet trips, doing poo pick ups etc, so when I have a holiday it is a holiday. The rest of my life may revolve around them to a large extent but holidays do not.
  5. I have smashed a car window and I will do it again if I have to. Dogs will continue to die, as will children because it is quite obvious that some people just don't get it. I really have no idea why it is that some people simply cannot go anywhere without their dog no matter what the weather conditions are. Our dogs go out for dog outings that are planned around their needs and the weather, on hot days they are much more comfortable and safe at home in the cool.
  6. Yep, I've seen too many cooked dogs to ever want one of mine to suffer the same fate.
  7. Good Grief take a look at the tails on some of the breeds you are carrying on about, look at the way the tail is held and how the dog uses it. All breeds carry their tails differently and the temperament of each breed is different. Try as she might my GSD could never use her tail the way a Boxer does not to mention the fact that it is very well protected by her coat.
  8. Have fed minced frames here for years, haven't had a dog not tolerate them, had a couple of up chucks over the years, either from bolting their food or just a passing tummy upset.
  9. Coats as needed for extreme weather but no dress ups here.
  10. It really does pay to have an established relationship with your Vet, continually shopping around and not having a history of payment and treatment does not help. A lot of people expect to walk into a business that they have not used before and expect credit, often for large sums. I know this is not the case all the time but the number of bad debts from emergency cases that are not established customers the Vet industry is huge.
  11. It is very easy to build a secure run that can be taken up and moved with you, there are many modular type runs on the market, wack down some pavers and there you go. I wouldn't be relying upon other people to care for my dog on a regular basis. Doesn't appeal to me at all.
  12. I'd spend the money securing the yard to ensure she cannot get out.
  13. You get Specialist Vets, but many Vets do most kinds of surgery to a certain degree, especially in regional areas where there is a drought of Specialists available.
  14. Sounds like he hasn't been trained, yelling is achieving what??? Poor dog.
  15. I groom many Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu crosses, I don't recall a nasty one, they are generally a good natured sturdy little dog. They are as a breed by no means stupid or difficult to train. If you are prepared to manage the coat, they are a great little dog.
  16. I cannot imagine actually hating a dog, being frustrated with yes, not bonded with yes, but hate is a really strong word to use.
  17. Feeding, wow, huge subject, you feed whatever keeps your dog at his healthiest, you feed what suits your dog. What I feed may well not suit your dog. IMO a well balanced diet that keeps your dog at its healthiest and in suitable condition is all you need. Worming etc is all just basic health care IMO and they are kept parasite free regardless. I really don't think there are any secrets. Fitness depends on your breed, if you are going to show a GSD at specialty level it is a whole different ball game. The whole thing is a huge subject, my dogs could step into the ring after just a scrub up, because I like to keep them that way and our lifestyle suits them and show prep would be no biggie. Some breeds or lines may take extra work to get them looking fitter.
  18. Glad to hear your Maremmas are recovering myValkyrie. However, the cover of darkness is very different to the clear light of day. I too have lost a prize Rhode Island Red and I understand the torn sentiments. I have also had the occasional lost dog, and let's be honest here, I would rather lose a 'chook' or, give up a 'chook', before a dog anyday. I can get another chook at the markets. Other people take a different view, but I can't imagine what it would take to make me pick up a gun. Not gonna' happen peeps'. Would a few maimed foals upset you or maybe a foal ripped to bits whilst still being born. Get over yourself.
  19. I just want to add that many people seem to have an issue with shooting a "pet dog" maybe on the grounds that the dog belongs to a family, in many areas it is the "pet dogs" that are doing the damage. Surely if it is your treasured pet then you would take steps to keep them home? Considering the number of repeat offenders and the continual my dog wouldn't harm, it just likes to play, just likes to run attitudes it is not at all surprising that people are fed up. Like bigdoggs experience people lose multiple dogs and still don't contain them, you can warn people, confront them with evidence and they still don't take measures to stop it. Some don't give a rats, others are in complete denial. The end result is the same dead dogs and huge losses to stock owners.
  20. I am sick of roaming dogs harassing stock and poultry, maiming and chasing for the fun they get out of it, putting horses and foals through fences. And yes they can cause massive injuries and damage without even getting into the paddock. It is about time people pulled their heads in took responsibility and secured their dogs. Bigdogg you get no criticism from me Many stock owners start off with hunting the dogs off, calling owners, warning shots etc, but you do get to the stage of zero tolerance.
  21. I guess it does depend on your lifestyle and where you live but considering the wonderful outdoor life we have and how mild our climate is we spend much of our time outside. I disagree with the bolded comment, you would maybe not see an outside but I can assure you I would. We live in Australia, we enjoy and active outside lifestyle, many happy healthy dogs do live outside and spend considerable time with their owners. How do you feel about dogs that spend all day locked in side then see their owners for a short time after work before the flit off to other social activities. Do not judge others on how you live.
  22. Lots of good ideas already. Well made well drained paths outside for wet periods. Lots of protected outside area with all weather surface.
  23. Yes there are, but IMO elimination is the best way to work it out.
