  1. He's an 8 week old pup who has just been removed from his mother and littermates and all that he's ever known... he's going to want to be with/near YOU for a while until he gets some confidence in his new surroundings. This is going to sound very judgemental, but why on earth did you get a dog if you aren't prepared to share yourself fully with him? Especially in these early days when he needs you for security/comfort the most? Just think how you'd feel if you were invited to live with someone, and then they decided when and where you were allowed to have any contact with them.... effectively freezing you out unless THEY wanted your company for a while... T.
  2. There's nothing better than waking up in the morning with a dog butt in your face... lol! Dogs are normally companion animals... they have a need to be with their family/humans... hence the crying from this little baby who has suddenly been taken away from all he has known and thrust into a completely different environment and is being asked to cope on his own. It doesn't have to be a permanent arrangement having him inside at night... just for as long as it takes for him to be confident with his own company at night. T.
  3. She's so pretty it almost hurts! Those eyes just make me melt... I like Neko's mouse better than the one Zeddy found in my back yard the other day... lol! T.
  4. Zeddy started going grey at around 12 years... now at nearly 16, she has grey face, grey feet, and it's spreading down her chest and belly... Trouble is blonde, but recently I noticed that she's actually gone a bit grey in the face... she's 9. Harper is blue brindle, and started going grey around her face at around 18 months... she's nearly 3 now. Pickles is the only one who hasn't got any grey... she's nearly 5. T.
  5. At the very least a Vizsla greeting, and I heard a Rotti might also greet in similar fashion... Yes... it IS a Rotti morning greeting as well... *grin* T.
  6. Bring the crate inside - into your bedroom. He will settle faster if he can see you from the crate - even if you are sleeping. I fostered nearly 200 puppies over the years I was in rescue - the crate in the bedroom definitely works. I would also give them a pig's ear to chew on if they woke up during the night. T.
  7. Definitely bring the crate into the bedroom - even if it's the only time the pup comes inside. He will settle a LOT faster if he can see his humans and know he's not alone. I fostered nearly 200 pups over the years, and I can guarantee that they definitely settle faster if they can see you from their bed. I suggest that the crate has a plastic bucket-bed with warm bedding and a teddy around the same size as the pup to snuggle up to... to simulate a litter-mate. Just remember - if it's annoying the hell out of you, the neighbours aren't going to be happy about it either. T.
  8. No that was Dimples now known as 'Sapper' much loved by his dad Andrew Mind you Sapper was a snot of a puppy the day after his 'Puppy Pre-School Graduation' he did this ... little bugger lol Ummm... isn't that a normal morning greeting from a Labrador puppy though? T.
  9. If/when I'm ever wanting a Labrador again... I know who's door I'm knocking on! Amazing dogs you breed Tapua! T.
  10. Thinking of you today Anne... big hugs... T.
  11. When I had my thyroid out, my mother was staying at my house and looking after 2 of my dogs... she rang me about an hour after I'd been wheeled back into the ward, still groggy from the anaesthetic, to ask if Zeddy had a tick near her eye... it was a big mole and had been there for ages, including the 3 days prior to me going into hospital when my mum was at my house... T.
  12. I ended up redirecting my passion for animals to taking photos of zoo animals... and am now also studying to be a zookeeper. I think I've finally found what I want to do when I grow up... *grin* Mind you, I learned a hell of a lot, and got a wealth of hands on experience that will help me with my new career choice to no end. The biggest thing I learned about myself during my years in rescue is that I CAN handle the quality/quantity issue that occasionally arises. The biggest compliment I ever got was that I could be "dispassionate with compassion"... I didn't tell that person that I'd do my crying in private... for each and every soul I had to help to the Bridge. I won't say that I came out of the experience completely undamaged though. Much kudos to those who live and breathe rescue year after year... you are amazing people. T.
  13. Done... for Zeddy. You want us to do one for each dog we own? I have 4 dogs... *grin* T.
  14. Hahaha! Pickles does that to Zeddy here... and Zeddy doesn't even wake up... lol! T.
  15. I'm not ashamed to say there is a reason for me only lasting 7 years in rescue... I got out when I realised that "doing good" isn't always good for one... I'm still plenty happy to support those tireless souls who are out there day after day getting the job done right though... T.

    Emmylou

There is a new star in the heavens shining down on us all... run free with the angels Emmylou... T.
  17. Treasure these final days and make some more happy memories with sweet Boofy... he will live forever in your heart... T.
  18. Big hugs to you, and gentle hugs for Boofy... T.
  19. Pickles decided to have a hurl on my bed last night... but it was too cold to get my sorry butt out of bed to do anything about it... I let her clean it up herself, and there's no mess this morning... *grin* T.
  20. Harper gives no warning, and it will usually be after she's gorged herself on poo to boot! Nothing quite beats poo-vomit for stink! T.
