  1. Hey gwp4me... we have a pup named Rex who is similar in looks to Dallas... well, similar in that he's brindle and gangly and full of life and love... he's my heart dog's brother... and we are closer to you than Newcastle... *grin* He plays nice with others and is small dog friendly. We haven't tested him with cats, but I'd think if the cat was dog savvy and told him to back off, he'd not have an issue with that. His birthdate is 2/9/2012, so he's 21 weeks old now. Don't you think he's got the most gorgeous soulful big brown eyes? The following 3 were taken yesterday... the blue brindle one is my Harper - his sister... Feel free to PM me if you are interested in Rex... we won't mess you around... T.
  2. Isn't it amazing how dogs just get on with enjoying life to the fullest? Beebee is one heck of a cutie. T.
  3. There is (probably "was" now) a 7 month old one in Renbury (pound) when I was there today... he seemed VERY popular... *sigh* T.
  4. I could lend you Harper... she eats the same amount as my other 3 girls each - only Harper has hers 3 times a day, and they only get fed once a day. How heavy is Sammy now? Harper weighed in at 21.2kgs this morning... *grin* T.
  5. In all fairness hotdogz, I've had to hold a dog while it was given it's wings that was perfectly fine with me, but a complete nightmare of a dog when it came to anyone else - to the point of bailing up and attacking anyone who wasn't me... is that the kind of dog that should be rehomed - or held indefinitely in kennels until it decided to like anyone but me? Would that really be fair on the dog? T.
  6. Way to go Buddy! I remember bring him home to you from HP Rach... he gave me kisses at regular intervals... *grin* He looks like he's completely content with his new family... and seems to have formed a bond with his "boy" too... awesome! T.
  7. Very true... ALL of them are seriously cute! T.
  8. Councils are seeing their (dog) kill (I prefer the term "euth") stats dropping... which is what the public have been harping at them for years to achieve. PR are instrumental in getting dogs out of the pounds and out of council's responsibility - be that in a good way or not, the effect is the same as far as the councils see it. MOST of the dogs that PR are getting out of the pounds are available for any member of the public to adopt straight from the pound - so no DOC after they are gone from the pound required really. For those marked RTRO, then surely the pounds have some sort of formal agreement that rescues taking them must abide by? If not, then what's the point of marking them as RTRO? Do those agreements (if any are in place) get followed up on? What are the consequences listed as reprisal for breaking them? Councils/pounds do NOT have to work with any rescue if they don't want to - a 16D doesn't automagically give you the "right" to rescue from any pound - it still comes down to council/pound discretion... especially if what that rescue is doing with the dogs they get out comes under scrutiny for poor practices. I know pounds that work really well with rescue, but have precluded certain ones from getting any dogs out. T.
  9. To get a photo like that takes "wranglers"... you have someone placing the pups in a line, then you start snapping as soon as they move out of frame. 3 week old pups are darned cute though, aren't they? But as cute as they are, we see way too many of their mums abandoned in pounds while pregnant... those pups were whelped within days of their mum arriving at our rescue. We also had another preganant poundie girl at the same time who whelped 6 days after the pictured litter. Here's our attempt to get the other litter of pups to pose in a row... lol! ... and here's what I have to contend with when trying to take pics of puppies... ... it's a hard job... NOT!!! T.
  10. Patience pebbles... lots of it! Basically I just sit outside and let the little terrors finish their interest in me for cuddles or as a chew toy, then when they go off and start doing their own thing, that's when I start snapping away. Take LOTS of pics, and you usually get a few really nice ones that show off the pup in their best light. My big plus is that I get to foster lots of puppies... and there's nothing cuter than puppies, is there? T.
  11. Actually, you can buy many drugs from sources other than a vet... but then you must ONLY use them under instruction from a vet. My vet knows that I usually have a well stocked doggy first aid kit, and will tell me what dosages of the stuff I have to give to my dogs if they need it. T.
  12. OK - you are all asking for it now... *grin* This is one of my fave foster pup photos... ... and these are just darned cute... ... and just for the complete "awww" factor... T.
  13. When my Labrador was a pup, it was always and adventure doing the poo patrol... and we still don't know what happened to the other battery from the TV remote... it wasn't inside her (xray taken). I have a camp dog foster failure who has a nasty habit of chewing bedding - usually someone else's - and anything else she can get her mouth on... more adventures doing the poo patrol. At least I know which ones are hers... lol! T.
  14. POCTAA is plenty sufficient as far as laws go... and I'd like to see those enforced better before anyone thinks about adding any new ones... T.
  15. I have heaps of cute foster puppy photos... but posting them would be "cheating", right? T.
  16. Trouble trying her best "butter wouldn't melt" pose... Thanks for the compliment on my baby girl Harper Minimax... T.
  17. Groomers here are unregulated too - and this is what can happen... http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/245262-my-beautiful-buddy-hung-at-the-groomers-how-can-this-happen-%3B/ T.
  18. It doesn't get much cuter than this... *grin* ... and she's staying gorgeous as she grows up too... Well... I think so anyways... T.
  19. Here's a pic of my "old" girl... she wants the stick I'm holding... T.
  20. But there ARE already plenty of laws regarding pretty much every aspect of dog ownership... so if the powers that be can find the resources to enforce new laws, then why can't they find them NOW to enforce the CURRENT laws? T.
  21. My oldest is currently 13 - which is past the average lifespan for the 2 breeds she is a mix of... and she's only starting to look older now - greying and developing that "old dog" bark"... *grin* Don't tell her she's old though - she's not showing any sign of giving up yet... I don't vaccinate at regular intervals, I only treat for fleas if I see them on any of my dogs, I only worm if I see one, or the dogs are well past due for a dose. I am currently feeding Nutro dry, but my dogs have been fed a range of different diets over the years - anything from supermarket brands to premium brands, scraps, etc. I think there may also be a link to longevity in dogs who are treated with love and respect by their owners - not mollycoddled and overly "cared" for... my dogs are, well, dogs... T.
  22. We already have enough LAWS to cover all of the things in this debate... we need to be looking at those tasked with enforcing those laws and asking WHY they aren't holding up their end of the bargain. As for different councils and pounds having their own regulations when dealing with rescues - same goes there - THEY need to follow up when rescue isn't holding up their end of whatever bargain they've struck with the councils/pounds in order to have dogs (and cats) released to them. Too many people/agencies who CAN do something throwing up their hands and saying "it's all too hard"... *sigh* Why the hell should WE be having to come up with ways to deal with cowboys in the industry? T.
  23. how do we go about it to make them act? and how do we police those who bypass their state's laws? And therein lies the rub... if the peple who are supposed to be policing the laws can't be arsed to do it, what recourse do we have? T.
  24. The only thing our rescue was asked to agree to and sign from HP was a commitment to desex any intact animals we had released to us, and provide notification of same back to HP when it is done. It didn't say anything about any penalty if one didn't follow the "rule"... T.
