  1. Perhaps the OP doesn't know the price of litter vacs. I think there's nothing wrong with asking questions but there's always a danger they'll be misinterpreted, especially when they're in writing (email). I hope you can sort it out and both gain the info you need from each other to decide if it's the right puppy for you. You might be better off making a phone call.
  2. It's the wide angle lens that I was trying to sell but no one wanted it so I started using it again and found I actually like it. EFS 17-85 Peanut is a great little dog but she drives me nuts sometimes. Yap yap yap yap when she's excited, but she's good natured and gentle.
  3. I'm not sure if EDT means it is Australian time though. Anyone know?
  4. A woman on a US whippet forum told the story a while back that someone thought her whippet was a deer, and I know a friend in Melb. who was walking her blue whippet near the Botanic gardens and a tourist bus driver called his passengers over to see the kangaroo. She kept insisting it was a dog, a whippet, but the driver kept insisting it was a kangaroo. She gave up in the end.
  5. awwww poor puppy. That's one greedy chicken, did you see how much its crop was bulging. My chickens tried that with Puck but he mouthed them and warned them off. He was very good really, he could have killed them, but was really very gentle, just letting them know in no uncertain terms it's not on. They still hover about while he's eating though and as soon as he's finished they go pecking about for any scraps.
  6. Just thought photographers might like to know about this http://www.spacedex.com/lyrids/locations/lyrid-australia-melbourne.php
  7. The little orange dog is Peanut, she belongs to Iggy Mum but I'm looking after her dogs while she's in hospital. Peanut absolutely loves my boys Tag and Puck so I usually walk the dogs in 2 shifts but always make sure Peanut gets to go to the park with "her" boys IMG_4500dppt by kirislin, on Flickr IMG_4492dppt by kirislin, on Flickr IMG_4493dppt by kirislin, on Flickr IMG_4506dppt by kirislin, on Flickr IMG_4509dppt by kirislin, on Flickr She's nearly always in the picture somewhere IMG_4510dppt by kirislin, on Flickr I do wonder sometimes if her constant barking ever drives them nuts. 8. I just read on another forum of a whippet that was missing for a week after running off chasing a deer. She returned to the last place her owner saw her and was picked up by a man who saw her "lost" poster. I'm really hoping this little dog does the same. I just hope she's not lying somewhere injured. Every time I see a new reply on this thread I look, hoping to see good news.
  9. I know of a whippet on a US forum I'm on called Rumble Girl. I've no idea how the name came about.
  10. tlc, I could be wrong but there might be either a person up front, or signage saying Stock on Road, or something like that. Cars are supposed to slow down to let the stock pass or slowly creep through the mob so as not to frighten them, but I wonder if drivers of today still know that. I remember it alot as a kid, the long paddock.
  11. how lovely, were you on a horse or on foot?
  12. I just shared out the remainder of the little roast I'd had for tea with the 8 dogs here. Because we've got 3 extra dogs staying I think Puck, worrying about extra competition, gulped the meat down too quickly and he started to choke. He tried a few times to sick it up without success. I took his collar off and felt his throat, I could feel the lump and I tried to massage it back up. It came up and he seemed to chew and swallow but he kept choking. He's such a sweet trusting dog, I know he understood I was trying to help him. I sat on the floor and he came over to me looking very miserable. After about the forth time of him partially bringing it up, chewing, swallowing but continuing to choke, he let me stick my fingers down his throat and grab hold of the offending peice of meat. It was on a long sinew with a lump at either end, so part was further down his throat. I got it all up, separated it and of course he was fine then and wanting me to give it back to him, which I did. Bloody dog just took 10 years off my life. I'm lucky though that he didn't resist me when I was trying to help him or it could have been impossible and I might have had to wait until he passed out! I've heard of things like that happening but I'd hate to go through it.
  13. Hybrid vigour or not, each parent needs to be healthy themselves to produce healthy offspring.
  14. I'm not familiar with collie breeding. I've heard that you dont breed merle to merle, I think it's a bit like horses where you dont breed roan to roan, there's some kind of lethal gene isn't there? What is the problem with merle and sable?
  15. You'll have to change your siggy. :D
  16. I should clarify my reservations about it. It might work, but I think these people need to do their own research and have a clear understanding of what owning a dog might entail, the good and bad. Pounds are full of dogs who didn't live up to the owners expectations.
  17. I'm not liking the sound of that. They just want something low maintenance and small and cute! It will still need exercise, it's going to do its business in their courtyard if they have one, or in the apartment if they dont house train it and regularly take it out for toilet breaks. Even a low maintenance dog might be too much maintenance for them. Do they really understand what dog ownership is about?
  18. I'm really sorry, cannot offer any advice. It's pretty shitty, you make your decisions on what to do thinking it will be covered. If you'd known they were going to decline it might have influenced your original course of action. Your parents sound supportive if they're going to loan you the $$. I hope you can get a job soon, it could be a whole new direction for you.
  19. I suppose what this thread shows and emphasises is that we're all different, so please dont be too harsh about the names you dont like because someone else thinks they're perfect. My boy Puck is a case in point.
  20. this is what I was wondering about, and thinking they might do. Dogs often either hang around where they last saw their owner, or in this case, the car, or even if they run off, they sometimes return. I hope they get the last one soon.
  21. any details on where they're finding them, how far from the accident site? Are they finding near to each other or does it appear they all just ran in different directions. I do hope they find the last one safe and well very soon. Any word on the one that was injured?
  22. I've got 2 rescue chooks with the names Brownie and Blackie, can you guess their colours?
  23. thanks, I adore him. They're his silly ears, he usually wears them when he's up for a game or into some kind of mischief.
