  1. Bees are good in your garden. Usually a dog only gets stung once and they learn, although some are pretty dopey and dont learn. I dont think european wasps enhance anything and am happy to kill them if I can. You can google on how to make a wasp trap.
  2. They'll be 8 weeks old on Friday, have been eating solids for a while now but still drinking off Mummy a fair bit, although her boobs are getting smaller and the silly boy keeps biting her teats. That will get him banned if he's not careful.
  3. It's been interesting watching Neko interacting with the puppies today. The little boy is an absolute thug with her. He bites her teats and if he keeps it up he will force her to wean them because of it. When she jumps away in pain HE tells her off! A few days ago I saw the very first time she tried to rough him up as part of teaching puppy manners. He growled at her and because she's not the toughest thing I saw she was clearly taken aback and unfortunately didn't put him in his place. Well she's still got a few tricks up her sleeve. Today I saw her enlist the help of the 'uncles', the whippet brothers Tag and Puck. She tried again to discipline Mr Fat and once again he had a go at her, so she started to do crazy runs around and around the yard, being really silly. When she got Tag and Pucks attention she diverted them to Mr Fat. She ran past him and sort of pounced but encouraged Tag and Puck to chase him. He wasn't so tough with them and started to squeal and run. It was just the upper hand she needed and then she chased him all the way back to the little puppy yard. I hope it lasts. He's a defiant little turd and might need a few reminders, but it was really fascinating to watch.
  4. How do you find out the contact details of dog judges?
  5. thankyou everyone for understanding. I still cant quite believe it. I can still hear her voice. Everytime I back down the driveway I look for her, even as I'm looking at her grave, I'm still looking out of habit, and as I turn into my property I instinctively look for her in the paddock, but it is sinking in now I suppose. Soon I will plant a tree for her.
  6. wow, you're right, if I had to say what he was I wouldn't hesitate to say Labrador. He sounds like he was a good old boy.
  7. Yep, very sad, I posted about this a few days ago. I hope someone is giving Tui a good home. It's a great tribute to Kelly McGarry and Tui. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/266092-grip-it-and-whippet/
  8. Exactly Kirislin. And that is why we have to monitor ours so closely for several weeks... the puppies are not very different in size to any breed of puppies but the bitch is 40-48kgs by the time she whelps. Puppies get crushed and suffocated so easily. Neko almost gave birth to a rotti pup!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kirislin - paint your boofer boys eye brows orange and send him to Starkehre - no one will ever tell the difference.
  9. thankyou! I like to try to capture dogs as they are. I almost never set a photo up, unless it's Marcus asking for something, like the calendar photo he wanted.
  10. I remember Penny doing that to Puck. He was a defiant little turd and she was at him for probably an hour or so, and never really tamed him. I dont think he ever really gave up, and he's still got attitude today, but I love him for it. He's not an aggressive dog, but there's something cheeky about him. It's like he says, "you cant make me do that". He especially does it to Marcus who finds it irritating. I always tell him Puck's saying "you're not the boss of me"
  11. Is this the aunty you were worried about a while back? Glad to see her smiling. Those links dont work
  12. Yes they are, but I think I'm even more amazed with my darling Tag. He hasn't been a father and hasn't had anything to do with tiny puppies before and yet he is instinctively protective of them. His behaviour of calming and stepping in to deflect excitement or aggression has happened before, and I got it on camera back then too. A couple of years ago we were at an IGGY fun day and Arkey was being chased by a rambunctious IG. He took a fall and sat up dazed and Tag immediately rushed in and just bent his body around Arkey to block the other dog. Puck then came over as back up. Neither were aggressive towards the other dog but I could clearly see they were protecting Arkey. I'm so proud of them. Here's the pics, look at their body language. 13. No, not sure what I'll do. They're 7 weeks today.
  14. there's some photos here that some might find upsetting. I promise you I was watching carefully, and surprisingly so was my wonderful Tag, making sure Neko didn't get too rough. He would block her with his head if he thought she was overdoing it. What she's doing is a normal part of puppy socialising and development. I suspect it's something that puppies taken away too early from their mum and siblings miss out on, and maybe it accounts for some of the problem dogs we have these days, I dont know. No puppies were injured in the following photos. 5F6A6337dppt by kirislin, on Flickr Poor little baby, probably thinks this is the end. 5F6A6355dppt by kirislin, on Flickr She's probably seeing her short life flash before her eyes here 5F6A6351dppt by kirislin, on Flickr Beautiful Uncle Tag stayed close by and often blocked Neko with his head to calm things down. 5F6A6356dppt by kirislin, on Flickr Go easy Neko, he seems to be saying. 5F6A6376dppt by kirislin, on Flickr Gah please dont kill me mummy 5F6A6382dpp dppt by kirislin, on Flickr 5F6A6364dppt by kirislin, on Flickr Puppy olympics 5F6A6341dppt by kirislin, on Flickr Abseiling off Uncle Puck's ear 5F6A6340dppt by kirislin, on Flickr
  15. although I must say, I kinda wouldn't mind one.
  16. I saw their birth weights. One was 315gms. that's only 15 gms more than Neko's (Italian greyhound) big lump of a boy at birth! They look lovely. She's doing a wonderful job.
  17. Some fantastic photos here of well trained and courageous kelpies working hereford cattle. Have a look.
  18. I only watched a smidge of this. dont they teach dogs to walk at heel anymore?
  19. wow almost 1300 thumbs down and only 75 thumbs up. I'll get shot down for saying this but I really think showing is destroying dogs. Most seem to be bred now simply to look "good" stacked and at a trot around the show ring. I was looking at a photo of a champion whippet today and it has this huge bulging prosternum. Once whippets lacked chest and alot were steeple fronted, now they've gone the other way in such a short time, only about 15 years. I thought the photo looked like it had been stretched because the dog was sooooo long. It had a very flat back and very long 2nd thigh. Just awful. I want a purebred whippet again, but I dont know if there's any the shape I love anymore. Most of them these days are these big flat backed brindles. I'd love a sleek little curvy bitch about 17 3/4" solid colour, not brindle.
  20. Oh good, I was starting to get worried. I'd always read that once the temp drops you'll have puppies within 24 hrs and that had well passed. Phew! Looking forward to seeing pics and glad all is well.
