are Nikon more expensive? I've heard that the lenses can be more costly than Canon but I am not sure if it's true.

I've never seen one of these dogs in the flesh but they intrigue me with the few photos I've seen. Like a dingo/fox cross, which I realise is an impossiblity. He's very cute, I'd love to see some more pics of him. What is their personality like.

Have you read much about the 60D. I haven't paid much attention but I got the feeling there was a bit of disappointment over on POTN. What about the 50D? which is really cheap, REALLY cheap over at DWI right now. Not sure why but it's cheaper than the 550D.

I love my Canon, but I've never used Nikon, so I dont know what it's like. Pretty good from the results I see.

I expect to see many many more pics of Kuma akita! What did you end up buying?

no, the bloody pigs, they all had fat tummies but as soon as I went in the kitchen they all trooped after me in case there were more hand outs.

Is a video really an important thing? Does it take a good video? I have the video capabilities on my camera and never use it It's not important if you dont want it. If I was you I'd and I had the funds, out of those 2 I'd go for the 50D Dont forget though, there's extra costs on top of that. It's body only, plus you need a CF card and a camera bag, and lenses. I've heard JB Hi fi sometimes do pretty good deals. Maybe if you go in armed with the info and prices of what you want you might be able to negotiate. It's like buying a car or house, you always end up spending more than you'd budgeted

They ate it all, except little sooky la la Feather who's left a bit of the long bone. She's chewed off the knobbly ends thoug and is still trying to tackle the long bone. I dont normally let dogs bring bones in the house but she's the worst for eating bones and I struggle to keep tartar off her teeth so she's here on an old rug chomping away. edit, I've just taken the last bits off her after helping her get the marrow out. There was no meat on the bone and I didn't want her just ingesting bone shards by themselves.

Tess is talking about a Canon. The 40D was much loved but has been superceded now by the 50D and just recently the 60D has come out. You wouldn't get a new 40D but you might get one 2nd hand. Right now at DWI the 50D is actually cheaper than the 550D although the 550D has video as well.

Mine often get chicken pieces but I dont see turkey too often. Now I know they stock it I might call in there whenever I am down that way. The dogs went nuts for it. You know how their eyes go when they have something they really want, their pupils blow up and their eyes just go black, those wild blazing eyes, that's how they went when they saw/smelt what I had for them.
-
I know, it was their birthday on the weekend and last night I was in Woolies, we dont have one in our town so I dont get to know what they stock. When I saw all those turkey legs for $3.99 kilo I couldn't help myself. Here's Tag enjoying his too
-
Yes, he ate it all! over 800gms. Tag had one the same size, and the girls ones were a bit smaller. Every one finished their except Feather. She's still got a bit in the fridge for today.

How To Take Good Photos With 50mm F1.8 LensKirislin replied to giraffez's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos Yep, change your AF points. You can also move them to the side for a different composition.

that is such a beautiful photo Tess. What lens, I am assuming a fairly long one.
-
Lovely idea for little babies cause they'll change so much, you will treasure these photos.
-
OMG, how cute is that little Nandi in your siggy photo.
-
awww they love each other. You're keeping her aren't you?
-
Is it always windy there. I reckon you should go back and try to get them closer together and take a close up shot with a wider aperture to get a shallow depth of field. Would they stand really close together so you could just get their heads or at least heads and upper bodies.
-
these ones are especially gorgeous tlc, with the wind in their hair
-
These pics probably give you an idea of what you'd like. If you had a zoom lens you could have got in alot closer to those cute little froggies. One that has a fairly wide aperture so it's reasonable in low light. Your camera can help there too by being good at high ISO. I used to find my 400D (now superceded) was pretty crummy once I got over 400 ISO.
-
You wont regret it. I love having a camera after all the years of wanting one. I take the most mudane photos but looking back on them now they are basically a diary of my life.
-
That spotty one is so pretty. I like that you haven't docked their tails completely off too. You've left a couple of joints. I've seen some poor sheep where their privates are all exposed to the sun. I'm sure they must get sunburnt.

I bought my camera from DWI and although it's not covered by Canons warranty it is covered by DWI's plus the saving makes it comparable to buying a 2nd hand camera which isn't covered at all, except my camera was new. Definitely shop around for the best price. I think you would be pretty safe buying anything from a 1000D to the 550 or even the 50D and any model in between. If you could get a zoom and perhaps the 50mm 1.8 you'd have alot of fun. There's a thread a few pages back in photos where alot of us have listed our cameras.
