  1. I have used Advantage on a bitch who had just given birth, as we had seen fleas. This was what the vet recommended. We didn't have any problems.
  2. Damn i don't have photos right now - but ours is a BFT - a bit of a different shape to Idigadog, but has 10 berths (4 single berths, 6 that can fit 2-3 sibes each in), tack box, sleeping quarters/storage at the back, water storage, stove etc She's a beast, but wow does it make packing up and travelling so easy. We had it at the Bunyip show the other week - sure had a few people stopping and staring!
  3. Yes my older boy was only interested once he'd had his dinner. You could have him in with the girl for hours and nothing would happen - pretty much 5 mins after eating and bingo
  4. The only way i would ever contemplate having a siberian and a cat in the same room together is if the sibe had been with the cat from a puppy onwards. And even then it would be with the acceptence that there is always a possibility that the siberian could kill the cat. There is always that risk - anyone who says there isn't, is fooling themselves.
  5. When my boy did his he came up to us just fine, put him in his crate and an hour later when i let him out he was on 3 legs. Never showed any signs of pain, except that leg wasnt going down. By the time he went in for surgery less than 2 weeks later he was load bearing on the leg but still limping, not hopping. He had torn his well and truly.
  6. I have an old siberian girl who fits the bill of Mr Jeffs & JoeK's descriptions. So very true, having to train with the brain - you will lose any other way. They just want things their way - if things are, all is good, if you try to make them do something they don't want to - prepare for the consequences. It's a bit like the show survivor - outwit, outplay, outlast! My girl is predictable, will always give warning, but won't back down. She isn't interested in ruling or bossing other dogs -but all other dogs respect her. A fascinating dog to live with and understand, but i would never want another. I desexed her as if she produced just one like herself, i would feel horrible. The majority of the dogs from her line were of similar temperament.
  7. I'm still waiting on my sunday numbers. Has everyone else received them?
  8. For Pointers you could also try advertising within the sled racing community. Lots of people run pointers, and they are a good alternative to those who like to race, but don't like the down sides to breed like Siberians.
  9. I would have a solid roofed pen on concrete for when you need to leave her alone, and i would run 2 -3 strands of hotwire around the fence to discourage her from jumping or going near it.
  10. Just read on Facebook that Nate won Puppy in Group today as well - can anyone confirm this? I would say its so - have heard from Alicia who is over the moon!
  11. Group 6 results for Sunday AM Show BIG - pyrenean (puppy) RUBIG - dobe (inter) Baby - siberian Minor - shiba Junior - ? Open - siberian Champ - malamute Siberian went on to Open in Show! PM Show BIG - siberian (inter) RUBIG - shiba (minor) - went on to minor in show! Baby - sibe Puppy - pyrenean Junior - ? Open - siberian Champ - malamute Was stoked with my two siberians and their wins yesterday, though sadly my boy decided that the BIS line up was a fine time to go troppo and remember his sister was in season and that he really wanted out of the ring and to find her - bloody dogs! You've just got to laugh!
  12. I had a TPLO done on my 8 year extremely energetic siberian in november - he tore his completely (the vet said afterwards it was well and truly gone when they went in and saw it). He has come through with flying colours. A week after the surgery and the vets were amazed at how well he was doing. These days he's moving around like it never happened. What is important is to have the surgery done ASAP to ensure that the additional pressure placed on their good leg is minimised. The longer you leave your dog relying on their good leg, the more pressure you a putting on that leg and the more likely it is that they will end up tearing that cruciate ligament as well. I had my boy operated on within 2 weeks of having torn it. Make sure it is a surgeon who has alot of experience with the surgery (mine was recommended by my chiro who first diagnosed the tear). I'm not saying the aftercare will be easy - but you and your dog will survive and be better for it once she's better
  13. Sometimes those are the conditions the stud owner will put down, however open and honest discussion with the stud owner may eventuate in a compromise, or a relaxing of the original conditions. It may not, and that's the chance you risk if you decide to use a dog with such conditions. But many people are willing to discuss things if there are valid and compelling reasons for change. Personally any conditions i impose on a stud dog of mine are solely there for the welfare of the puppies produced. Lots of people are saying that its their bitch, they raise the pups etc etc therefore the decision is theirs alone. I feel if i let my dog be used, that i had a part in the creation of those pups, and i should do my utmost to ensure they have the best life possible, whether they end up as a pet or a show dog or a working dog. Usually its enough to just deal with the right people, but if a few conditions will cement the future welfare of these pups then I'm more than willing to do that.
  14. Well I'll admit i entered because its only around the corner from me. Having said that, i very much doubt there is a Siberian stand at the show, so we are bringing a few extra sibes for the public to see and pat when we are there on the Sunday.
  15. RUBIG for the champ show was the Akita (would have been nice to be my sibe though haha)
  16. Keep an eye out for a heap of aussie mushers and their fantastic dogs as eukanuba follows one of australia's best sled dog teams at the altitude 5000 snow race! I can't wait to see it, as i had the eukanuba skidoo pass me as they filmed fellow musher Clem Bittendorfer around the track - we hung in there for a little bit
  17. Sorry to hear about the little boy Hotwyr, but congratulations on the rest of the babies - lots of girls to choose from
  18. I use a manmat distance harness. Gives the dog the correct support around the front and shoulders, while the top piece slides to the side allowing the dog to pull forward in the harness without the harness twisting on the body. http://www.howlingdogalaska.com/index.php?page=supplies
  19. For interest what did they end up charging? I have no idea what Micheal charges for a Liver Shunt test. But he charges $44 for C3 + Mirco chipping at Devon Meadows on a Tuesday afternoon approx 2-8pm (i'm not sure if he gives a discount for a litter, the above was for just 1 pup) That sounds about right Sway - we have had Michael vacc & chip a couple of litters at Devon Meadows and thats about the price per pup no matter how many in the litter. That is a huge saving compared to ANY other vet i've ever asked. As for Monash - i've experienced the good, the great and the down right shitty. I won't use them again for repro, i don't use them for day to day issues anymore, but the quality and care they took recently with my boy and his cruciate surgery was fantastic.
  20. damn thats right! oh well looks like i've filled my quota of hounds for the moment! next time :D
  21. How exciting - congrats! The GWP's are such cute little babies! Thanks Soph - you want? Cheap to you!! xoxox Hmm...cheap cute GWP's...do they run fast?
  22. How exciting - congrats! The GWP's are such cute little babies!
  23. Read my post about "sad". Saying it is "an unfortunate incident" is even worse and seems to show a total inability to comprehend or sympathise let alone empathise with what the woman and Joysie went through. I can probably understand and empathise alot more than many people. I personally have picked up a small dog who had its insides torn open by a pack of dogs at a park - i know exactly how you feel at the time, and the horror of what has happened. Did i blame the dogs in that instant - actually no - i blamed the ower who had "created" the situation - from putting the dogs in that place and time, to the lack of training and discipline in the past that had created such a pack mentality. That didn't change the horror of what had happened to that little dog, and to say that i was happy to see that little fella survive and still be able to be friendly to my dogs is an understatment. In this situation i don't see how the owners can be blamed if in fact what was a secure fence containing the dogs was damaged without their knowledge. That no previous incidences seem to have surfaced involving these dogs seems to suggest that their owners managed their dogs responsibly. People always look to blame in situations such as this, but sometimes its just bad luck and a horrible set of circumstances that come together in a horrible event.
