  1. actually, there comes a point where increasing the sample size doesn't really contribute much at all :) The statistical analysis also takes into account the size of the sample. When something is found to be 'statistically significant' it means that there is less than 5% chance that the findings were a result of chance. Sometimes it is less than a 1% chance, or even less than that. Smaller samples require there to be larger differences in order to be found statistically significant. There is a lot to critically examining a research article, and sample size is only one factor :) Other things to look at is the study design, the effect size, how they chose to measure their variables and the representativeness of the sample. So if I was happy with these things listed above, I wouldn't disregard the findings just because they didn't have a massive sample. Spot on. I'm studying statistics right now
  2. Very interesting! This is why I don't like the push to desex anything and everything without even looking at the risks/benefits.
  3. Complete rubbish. No evidence the dog was harmed? What are they after, a mutilated corpse?? Predictably disappointing.
  4. I think providing things like vaccs for a discount is great. Dodgy BYBs often don't even bother to vacc/worm their litters IME.
  5. Move to the ACT. :) It's something I consider from time to time. I actually quite like the sound of the ACT, who knows?! :)
  6. Windhound? Might have to look that one up sounds interesting!!
  7. Thanks ss, I thought that was the case but didn't know about the minimum levels. You'd hope it's legit but who knows....
  8. Don't products have to state whether they contain gluten or not?
  9. My dogs definitely notice small changes in my posture or what I'm doing. My Aussie especially, watches me like a hawk. I can be studying at my desk for hours and as soon as I make the smallest move toward taking a break she knows and is all over me. It's freaky. It's like she can read my mind
  10. My worst nightmare poor dogs and poor family, just horrible
  11. Our guys got out one night and we didn't know until we went out and whistled for them, and in they came totally out of breath...I thought it seemed odd so looked and saw the gate had been left open. They had been galavanting around having a brilliant time but had come running as soon as we whistled for them :) Another time we got home to Lili on the front doorstep, there was no front fence and she'd escaped and just waited for us. I figure they're so spoilt they've no real reason to run away
  12. Yes - traveled a 600km round trip for my aussie :) Yes Yes
  13. I don't understand why the LDH wasn't contacted as soon as this behaviour began? The OP has had the dog for well over a year so was it aggressive when adopted?
  14. Sounds like when my aussie had colitis. I hope she's ok westiemum
  15. May I ask why you stopped seeing the behavourist if it was going so well? Maybe she just needs ongoing training change her behaviours? When you say aggressive, what behaviours does she display? I'm not sure what you want LDH to do? Do you want them to work on her behaviours and rehome her? Or provide training so you can keep her?
