  1. I still haven't got over this little gem. Having a breed that is little known by the general public, despite the work we put into promoting it, and having litters than can and will be anywhere from 1 to 13 pups, the concept of having a whole waiting list just standing by is ridiculous and would take years and years to compile - then possibly result in people missing out if the litter is small!. It's common for a couple of people to be waiting, but 13??? What an arrogant and ignorant thing to say. Advertising pups is a vital part of breed promotion. If you only introduce one new person to a breed they had otherwise never heard of, it is worthwhile. I found my breed by a random chance encounter in a public place when I was a kid. And I bought my first purebred dog from a Trading Post ad...
  2. I am left wondering how anyone could afford to breed dogs if they didn't work full time???
  3. Personally I would stay with the lesser kibble and increase raw meat and bone material. Far more bang for your buck. I had bad skin issues with Blackhawk, and my dogs normally eat anything and everything happily.
  4. My two teenagers (brother & sister) Zander & Andie went through a phase when we moved to our current place earlier this year of being afraid of thunder and gunshots (very rural area and neighbours shoot quite regularly). I think it was actually started by Andie, and her brother picked it up from there. Even their mum picked it up a bit and started worrying which was odd. However when my OH got his gun licence we decided to work on it. We had a rabbit problem and when OH would shoot a couple, the young dogs would be at the front door panting. even if they were offered a fresh rabbit directly after the noise they were too stressed to be interested. Their dad provided a shining example though. He figured out the process very, very quickly. When he even sees a rifle he starts bouncing about. And his attitude has been infectious. Now all dogs come running happily at the sound of gunshots. This has translated well and they are unfazed by thunder now as well, we have had big storms this last week and relaxed dogs. A rural solution I know but interesting so I thought I'd share. The ageing Goldie however, who has increasing senility - is now afraid of storms when she never used to be. Poor old duck. She's ok if she comes inside, but despite having hearing issues she can pick up approaching thunder before anyone else...
  5. If it is weakness in her back end she could have DM (Degenerative Myelopathy). There is a simple test available for it now - just a cheek swab so non invasive. Might be worth investigating if she continues to get the wobbles in the back end, or if she or her relatives have been breeding dogs.
  6. But what about the purpuls?? They are luverly...
  7. I also once used Fenugreek seeds to great effect. I made it like tea - with boiling water and then strained. Then used the resulting tea to make milk formula - Initially with Divetelac and then with Palastart Lamb and Kid Milk Replacer (I love this stuff and have used it for bitch and pups this time around with great success).
  8. You pair of secret squirrels you!!
  9. I have also recently put some up behind hanging pictures (smallish paintings) - ribbons draped over a wire coathanger. The coathanger goes on the hook the painting is on and the painting hides it. The ribbons hang down below it in a nice fan shape. I'll take a photo when I get home if that doesn't make sense!
  10. They look great guys! Two lots of fat happy munchkins. We do lots of playing too. Soft toys are the current treasure:
  11. A very sad and apparently frustrating situation for many.
  12. A quiz about purebred dogs had a photo of a labradoodle???
  13. Oh he's gorgeous Elwira!! What a long wait you have to meet them though! I'd be terrible impatient... :D
  14. It sounds like a band name! I read one many years ago, I cut it out of the Trading Post and kept it as a bookmark. It never fails to make me giggle - "Dinjo pups. Famous Barrenjoey line. Big heads with legs. From $1."
  15. Wow congrats Elwira!! I know exactly what you mean Angeluca, we have had the drunken puppy stage as well. We're getting pretty steady now though, and seeing a few excitable jumps and hops, and even a few attempts at running steps... And lots of surfing through bowls of food... And pooping and stepping in it and wiping it on siblings... I see you!! And outside under mum's watchful eye (that's the end of her tail they are watching!):
  16. There are also some Blueticks around in hunting circles, that would be unlikely to be registered, although would have originally come from registered stock.
  17. My young girl was just over 2 years. Her litter sister came in just after 12 months so it was a bit of a worrying wait!
  18. Oh wow MonElite! Huge congratulations! Almost a 50 50 split of girls and boys as well! Mine have started on beef milkshakes this weekend and are loving it - loving slurping, loving swimming...
  19. Try the recommended if you have a fatty, then change after some time if you see a change either way! :D
  20. And he has a little wet track where he's already been back and forth! I love his predicting and learning!
  21. Here's a trick one for this thread - Sloughi. Pronounced Sloo-ghee.
  22. Thankyou for showing her the love that others denied her. xx
  23. Might be slightly smaller than what you are used to, but I have a European friend whose Collie Roughs do a fair bit of harness work and are super reliable and strong. Nice clean faces and no drool.
