  1. This quote, and these figures, don't seem to match... These figures indicate just over one thousand animals euthanased over a two year period, not "thousands every year". Nothing like an over emotional beat up. Lets not let the facts get in the way of a good story, lets guilt trip "animal loving" MLAs into supporting it... If they don't, are they somehow less of a dog lover?? I can imagine there are some areas of other states that would love to have their numbers down that low. It really seems quite a low number and perhaps not needing such urgent attention. Yet again more regulation which makes life harder only for those who do the right thing anyway. edit - spelling
  2. Another good tool in searching for ticks is a good dog dryer. Using it with no heat, it makes it very easy to go through the coat at skin level.
  3. Fantastic to watch! Thanks for posting the link. :)
  4. Bling by Fyrth make nice ones too - you can google them. :)
  5. Sounds like an interesting dream!! I don't normally, although I can tend to revert to fingernail chewing while driving there. I hate being late but almost always am!!
  6. You would wonder why people like that choose to frequent purebred dog forums.
  7. And in that footage Sandgrubber, of the dog on a grooming table, you are in a position to make a call on whether it's coat obsures it's body shape?
  8. He's lovely! I do adore Pekes. And Sandgrubber, from the limited footage in the videso, he is not particularly overdone at all - Pekingese have looked similar to that for centuries. Yes he has coat, but it doesn't appear excessive at all. And he does have a nose and legs. Not every breed appeals to every person but we shouldn't jump in with widesweeping criticisms without the knowledge to back it up.
  9. Fantastic! Great work, he looks brand new again!
  10. I would do it on the day - hand his number in to the steward so they can mark him absent on their sheet. :)
  11. When you first go in and hand over your pass you will be issued a wrist band dog geek that lets you in and out for the day. If you are coming back on Sunday you will be given a pass for it. I got two passes with my entry? I normally do. Strange. Maybe if there's only one entry they only put one in? That said, I normally have two passes but have the family in tow as usual and they all get given wrist bands.
  12. There's quite a few so far appliacable to Borzoi. Don't get a Borzoi if you: Mind having everything periodically covered in hair Want a dog that reliably comes when it's called Mind having holes all through the lawn in cricket season - anything is huntable! Want small fluffy creatures to be safe running around your yard Want a dog that does what you teach it without the "What's in it for me?" look Mind being poked in the groin/butt by a long when you're not paying enough attention Mind having your legs leant on so hard your knees feel like they're giving way Mind having a very large and gangly dog climb in you lap at every opportunity Mind explaining to strangers that no, they are no some weird kind of collie or Lassie dog, and yes, they are meant to be that skinny.
  13. I missed that one, but have seen first hand the effects of toxoplasmosis on wildlife as it causes lingering symptoms and death in marsupials. I also used to know someone who was mostly blind from birth, and medically toxoplasma in their mother while pregnant was suspected to be the cause. So the issue of wandering cats crapping in people's gardens, particularly vege gardens, takes on a whole new sinister twist.

  15. I think she meant Allan McRae, who is at Jan Spate's vet clinic in Hall each Monday evening. :)
  16. No-one here told you what to do with your cat. Peace of mind posted a news story, and the rest of us engaged in discussion about and shared their various experiences. And yes, voiced generalised opinions. You were the one that took that personally and got defensive, self righteous and arrogant about your own choices in cat ownership.
  17. I agree. Poor woman, poor dog, stupid bloody owner.
  18. Or trapped and killed. So we're back to the original theme. I like cats, yet my dogs can and do kill any wandering cat that comes into my secure backyard. The law covers me for that. And the original article should be another warning to the owners of wandering cats. There are plenty of people out there prepared to do the same, and they are legally allowed to.
  19. Rear ones aren't common in my breed (who are pretty different physically to Poms I know! ). But if they appeared in my pups I would have them removed when we have the front ones done at a few days old. We take ours off as they are prone to nasty injuries - big dogs, moving at high speed etc. But if I had little dogs, especially coated ones, I would still take them off to prevent injury and/or grooming issues later on. I hope all goes well for your little tyke! :D
  20. Rear ones are often less attached than front ones, so it can be a less invasive procedure to remove them from older dogs. Often means they are more susceptible to injury as well if left on as they are more dangly.
  21. Are you able to run him on a little and do some starting out training with him? Maybe to highlight his potential?
  22. Yep, what Nekhbet said. :D Lamb is especially good for really active youngsters. But like Vickie said, she may well stay light until maturity. Mine are a bigger breed but can commonly go through skinny gangly phases until three and four years old - sometimes having you almost tearing your hair out! Maturity comes eventually!!
