  1. Wow! What a great job she's done (and you as well of course)! I can imagine there's a few and s going on at your place. Beautiful babies...
  2. Manuka honey here ;) ! One of mine went face first into a wire fence after a rabbit and tore a vast triangle out right between her eyes. We used honey on it and she only has a slight line there that is easily chalked for the ring. I was really surprised, it was a horrible spot and so big! Only trouble is the other dogs licking it off....
  3. Any Hound results? I'm feeling show withdrawals... but then listening to the cold, cold wind and wondering whether everyone is ok down there!!
  4. Love your photos! My girls like being grubby much more than my boy. With bones they can come in all red over their front legs and heads, like lionesses on a kill... Wheras Boris will just have a little spot here and there. And mud?? My girls can make their own wallows like hippos, while Boris watches from his bed with mild disgust... ;)
  5. Nic, I'm so sorry to hear about Ray. I'm so glad he had you guys to make his life so wonderful. Much love to you and your family. xoxo
  6. Hi Shells. Should it get worse DAS is who you report it to, you'll find their contact details via the TAMS website: TAMS - DAS. Urgent ranger contact (if doggie is going off and you can't find the owners etc) is via Canberra Connect on 132281. There are many levels of intervention, they do usually start at the lower end. This one could possibly be something that a formal warning might sort out (hopefully her husband would pay attention to that!).
  7. People can be bloody awful. It's not just the penalties that are the major hurdle for prosecuting authorities though, it's often the burden of proof. These offences have to be proved "beyond reasonable doubt" and unfortunately, with animals unable to give witness details that can be very hard to do. Animals are voiceless in our justice system, as are very young children.

    Not Dogs

He missed his chance for some decent education about them... sigh. For anyone living in Canberra, for the coming spring and summer please, please make sure that you don't net fruit trees, and try to tell as many other people as you can not to. We had a shocking season for these lovely creatures being killed and maimed in Canberra's backyard netted fig and other fruit trees, just horrific. They are as intelligent and sensitive as dogs and really suffer when injured in nets. And despite his casual attitude, don't handle bats unless you're vaccinated against Lyssavirus. It has a 100% mortality in humans and despite there being few cases is it really worth the risk? RSPCA ACT Wildlife are the only agency in Canberra that will care for injured and sick bats in the ACT.
  9. If you're on facebook there is a group called Show Your Style that have show suits. I've seen some juniors wearing ones from them recently so they might have some little sizes.
  10. :D But what if he gets a gravity-assist?? He could match Ursula when she sees something really exciting and her ears stand up in sheer defiance to gravity. She's a hairy fruit bat!
  11. What a strange Magistrate... Poor lady, I hope her complaint gets her some better attention.
  12. Well done!! I did see a couple of 'Tzus assembling at the ring, and would've come said hello but was carrying a load of stuff to the car. Congratulations!
  13. Us? Never. Or maybe a little, as Humphrey seemed intent on pretending he didn't know us...
  14. Outside. They overheat quickly indoors with the fire and heaters on during winter. The girls get shut in the garage last thing as they get up to mischief in the dark... Boris will be on his bed under the verandah near the back door - on guard for anything that goes bump in the night (rabbits and possums mostly ). Otherwise they all have the run of the 1 acre yard (except when girls are in season!). edit - late night, spelling fail...
  15. Go bel! If we get a chance we'll come and cheer on your girl for her points (just look for the slightly rowdy hound folk... ) And Sheridan: Wheatens 0/0, and Kerries 2/2.
  16. Yay! Does that mean we're having wine??!! And der, I missed the Mr and Mrs bit... and thought that there was only one judge named Ford... Am going back under my small rock now.
  17. Does anyone know the order of judging for Sunday for groups 4 and 7? We are sharing a judge but the gazette doesn't give any indication of which group is on first. ETA - Sorry bel, missed your post. Toy poodles: 6 on Sat and 7 on Sun. Shihtzus 5 on Sat and1 on Sun. Not very high entries in general for these shows.
  18. Woo Hoo! A hound ring get-together sounds on the cards!! We'll be there both days.
  19. I cured my boy by hanging water balloons inside the sheets - but it was summertime! He doesn't lik surprises. It was pretty painstaking though, tying on the strings at just the right height that they were level with the bottom hem of the sheets etc. I have to admit I'm more likely to hang them inside to finish drying that try again - my girls are more stubborn and I don't think it would be such a deterrent for t hem - they'd probably just enjoy it! And I tried vicks vaporub on the outside of the coat worn by the smoothcoat dog we had staying for a while - and they used to lick it off . Needless to say it didn't stop them pulling his coat off and playing with it...
  20. Oh no! What beautiful collars!! How will I possibly resist!!
  21. Condensation. Imagine the moisture that accumulates on a cold drink bottle in summer. The same process is at work with the bed. Where the warm meets the cold it causes the moisuture from the air to condense into liquid. Little ventilation holes in the plastic bed won't really help, you'll need to air out/dry the bedding each day. Or you can try putting it on something with a higher airflow so the moisture can re-evaporate in the daytime - like a mesh trampoline bed etc.
  22. Mini longhaired Dachies... and sometimes Standards too . I think he can't see their legs as he is so tall, and can't figure out how they move around! Some other little dogs. Nothing else...
  23. I'd love a Bloodhound too, but am with you on this one:
  24. To all those saying "I will have a Grey one day" I would ask - why not make today that day?
