Does anyone know good books on how to train to dog for scent detection. It's an elective as part of a course part i wanted more indepth information as the course doesn't really cover that much other than the basic principles. Or does anyone know of a good trainer even that would teach one on one (on SE QLD)

[quote name='Cosmolo' I don't feel i have to use high levels at all using the stim after the command? K9: I guess the word "high" is a relative term, the low level I use doesnt have an effect when used after the command. [quote name='Cosmolo' How can a dog feel a stim before a command but not after? Their ability to feel wouldn't change just because you have given a verbal command? Maybe what he was saying was that the level of stim used before the command, that if he used the same level stim after the command for non compliance wouldn't have the same effect (not perceived as a consequence cause its such a low level.) If he was to use it your way then he would have to raise the stim a level or two for it to be punishment...... ETA: oh, K9 has already answered, i should read the whole thread first

Cute photos. My dog was still young, at about 6months old when i bought my puppy home. So there were no dramas at all. Now two years later they will chase each other and tackle.

Yeah, i would be saying that next time i would charge by the hour. A lady from my work had her mini schazer clipped (he's first clip) and when she went to get her dog the lady went on and on and on saying how naughty he was and what was she feeding him and lectured her about taking him to puppy preschool. She was taken aback, she's a responsible dog owner and couldn't believe how this lady carried on.

Training Not To Chase Other Animals
WildatHeart replied to 01kismet's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
An e-collar can be very successful in training dogs to not chase stock. But they cannot be used on very young dogs. So depending on how old your dog is you may need to look at another way... -
When i was overseas in Bali people who had dogs would feed mainly rice diets to their dogs. They were fine. Also, vegatable oil is fine to feed but omega oils are better.

I came home from work the other night and it had been raining and had filled up my dog's bowl with water and the biscuits were all soft and swollen. She then ate it all later on the evening. I was surpirsed because it takes her all day to eat two cups of biscuits. So the next morning i soaked the RC and then gave it to her. She ate it all!

If you already had mini mum, why get another two dogs? What would happen if, say, all three got parvo? sounds like you wouldn't be able to afford vet treatment for that so what would you do? What if one got hit by a car, that would cost alot too? So would you just have these dogs pts sleep cause you can't afford it? I only have one dog. I would love another but there is no way i could afford it.
