  1. Sorry to hear that openarms. Hope that the removal goes okay . When does he go in?
  2. Good luck pinning him down long enough to do it!!
  3. If he looks like this he hasn't been desexed. Chihuahua puppy balls...
  4. Depends how old the puppy is... when I first got Moose he looked exactly like he does now (he's been desexed). Just meat, no veg. ETA - Oh I see the Chi is 5 months. Moose had balls by 5 months. I would safely say if there's nothing there he's been desexed.
  5. I just put that I wanted another young dog so Moose would stop annoying Zoe (she's old). Got approved.
  6. Gosh, reading some of these stories, it seems like we got really lucky with Zoe. No external bleeding and no need for a transfusion. I didn't realise it could be so terrible.
  7. What is it with Elmo??? Our old Chi X, Stimpy, used to LOVE my Tickle Me Elmo. Seriously, if you wanted her to come, you just had to squeeze him. She would spend copious amounts of time grooming him and protecting him from the other dogs. You wouldn't dare take it away from her. She loved that bloody thing. She passed 4 years ago but he still lives in the dogs bed, wearing her collar.
  8. Very cute!! It's hard to tell... does he have a fuzzy head and a smooth body???
  9. Hmmm I have a pretty poor memory but I don't think it took too long for her platelet levels to start to rise. I'm sure she was on pill form steroids and we had to take her in every morning to have bloods taken. I think she was on the steroids for several weeks, gradually lowering the dose until she stopped taking them. She didn't have any external bleeding, just some 'bruising' like marks on her belly that are still there. The only symptoms she was showing were lethargy and just looking 'off' if you know what I mean. We took her in and they took bloods which is what confirmed it. She has had us on tenderhooks quite a few times this girl! She has had cruciate ligament surgery, IMT, anal gland abcess, mysterious inflamed spleen (several ultrasounds and tests later and we never did found out what that was about) and a few other things. Sorry I can't provide more info, Zoe is our family dog so it was mostly dad taking her to the vet at the time. I'm thinking good thoughts for Esmay, it sounds like she is in fantastic care and we have all fingers and paws crossed for a quick recovery.
  10. Our Chihuahua X Maltese, Zoe had this about 6 years ago. If I recall correctly she was on steroids for quite some time until her white cell count was back to normal levels and then gradually weaned off. Luckily she didn't need a transfusion and she was able to stay at home with us through her treatment. She had to be handled very very gently (I think we drove home doing about 20km/h!) and was on strict bed rest, no running around etc as she was at high risk of internal bleeding. She made a full recovery. She did develop some dark spots on her belly while she was ill that have never gone away. Think good thoughts peacefrog, hopefully she will be fine. Also, dogs that recover from this illness don't tend to ever relapse. Sending your girl some strong healing vibes. ETA - She is SUPER cute! Love her name too (it's one of my nicknames. )
  11. I'm a crate failure... I caved the first night after 20 minutes of hysterics and he never went in it again. I just did what others have said, watched him like a hawk, took him outside at regular intervals, always first thing in the morning, after meals and last thing at night. Lots and lots of praise as soon as he peed outside and straight back inside to bed. He taught himself the doggy door so that helped! You just need to suss out what works for you BBB. Good luck! ETA - You know in cartoons when a character doesn't want to go in somewhere so all 4 legs are out, braced against the door jamb. That was Moose when I tried to crate him. ;)
  12. Oh no Woof, that's awful. ;) I remember being at the park with our old Chi when I was about 12 and her being bowled over by a Staffy. She pooped herself, literally. It took both of us days to get over it. I really detest people saying "he's just playing". Yeah that's why my dog has his ears back, tail between his legs, looking terrified. Grrr. Give Sonny a hug from us.
  13. I'm going to be of no help... Moose pees on Zoe's pee while she is still peeing!! I think I need more help than you do.
  14. It's the pits when your pup is unwell and the results are inconclusive. I have been through that myself. ;) Thinking good thoughts for you CW.
  15. Wowsers! I pay $18 per desexed dog for 3 years registration. There is no ongoing fee for having the extra dog license. So the cost for me when I get my 3rd dog will only be $54 every 3 years.
  16. Same... we've had limits for a long time. I just got an exemption from my council. Disgusting that puppy farmers are given the :D and genuine breeders are going to be hindered. I'm pretty sure we have limits here as well, but you can apply for an exemption. It goes for dogs, and for cats. And the fee for exemption is pretty steep.. The app fee was $55.
  17. I thought about you today RubyStar as the Gosnells ranger drove past me on the freeway. He looked really smug. : I think it's time for you to move!

  19. Hope it's not her cruciate. Zoe did her cruciate at quite a young age (I think 1 or 2). She limped but didn't show ANY other signs of discomfort. Even when manipulated she didn't cry or complain. She had the ligament replaced and has never had issues with it. These days, she's a little slow when she gets up if she's been lying down for a long time but she is 11 years old. Let us know how you go Shelle, hopefully it's just a sprain and will heal in a couple of days.
  20. I've experienced this too.. Zoe had an infected anal gland that we didn't know about until it had burst. Was pretty and she had a nice big hole there but it healed up nicely and she's never had a problem since.
  21. Blardy hell, I did read the thread!!!!!!!!!!!!! I realise that the issue is about the vet not being registered in WA. My point was that perhaps the docking was part of the fine as well as 132 dogs was a lot for a vet to be docking for health & preventative reasons (depending on the time frame for when the docking occurred). I don't think it actually said what he was convicted of (probably missed it, lost my comb). ETA - Okay re-reading post one, I guess he was only convicted of not being registered. Would he have been fined $32,500 for performing other (legal) procedures? I might just stick to posting in the threads about rainbows and fluffy things.
  22. You're a great friend indigirl. Hoping and praying that Reg can fight off his fever and get on the road to recovery. He looks like a sweet old man.
  23. As already mentioned for those who cannot seem to take the time to read threads before posting, docking is legal in WA when performed by vets, for prophylatic (preventative) and therapeutic reasons. However, this is not a for and against docking thread, it is a thread merely reporting a case whereby a vet failed to properly organise the appropriate paperwork before performing a veterinary procedure interstate. Apologies for not reading the thread with a fine toothed comb. *flogs self for missing information*
