  1. Look in puppy problems.. numerous topics on similar things in there...
  2. Ask your breeder to measure pup's neck for you... otherwise if you took the pup with you to Petstock, you'd be able to take the dog in with you to get the right sizing. I'm glad I got my breeder to measure my boys neck, as he needed a collar at the airport.. his neck ended up being too big for a puppy collar
  3. Yep.. we do that too The V loves his bottles so much he goes as far to swipe empty bottles from the recycling :D Oh and their fave tug toy of the week.. the inner cardboard tube from a roll of garbage bags.. Perfectly suited to whopping each other on the head. No sooner had it dropped off the bench, the dogs had swooped :D
  4. With the kelpie, because he has these weird habits, you know when he's thirsty, and if you ask him he'll run to the water bowl if he wants some(and he'll tell you when it's empty ). However, over summer, there is ALWAYS two full bowls available at all times, we don't take it away at all... we only take it away if he's going back to his old tricks and only if it's not hot weather. Kelpie drink a lot... well the ones I know anyway.. is that normal in that breed? Does he sit by the bowl and whinge when it's empty, too? Charlie does this. This one only drinks about 2-3 times a day.. unless you tell him to drink, and then he will. Sometimes he'll drink a bowl in one go and that's it for the day. I was really surprised when I first met him, he just never seemed to drink! In summer we have to watch him really carefully as he gets dehydrated fast due to being black. He does sit and whinge, or else he'll just push the bowl around the floor. Snoopy, nope, i'm the same after a walk... doggies can have a few mouthfuls, then I will call them away for a few minutes, then let them go back.

  6. If we leave water with our dogs after 9pm, our kelpie tends to go out to the water, drink the WHOLE bowl, then wake us up a few hours later busting for a loo break, around 2am, the time OH used to go to work. If we take it away, he doesn't care, and will often not drink for a good 3-4hrs after we put it back down in the morning (5.30), so for him it's not a thirst thing it's just habit. He has been in that routine for so long, that taking the water away was the only way to break it. It was alright when OH was going to work at 2am, but now it's just frustrating because he refuses to go back to sleep afterwards and tries to keep us awake, and to put him outside just results in barking, or if we shut him out of the room he'll scratch the door and cry. We think he got into the habit due to OH's weird hours, because 2am was 'awake time' for the first 4yrs of his life... and now it's not. He is better though, and on the occasion we don't take the water away, he's only gorged himself once... so I think soon it won't be an issue. However the V is in his crate, so he gets no water access until it's time to get up in the morning.
  7. I believe they last months! I'm too chicken to buy them for my two because they hide things
  8. The others have covered it, but something to also remember, the more you scream, the more he will bite.. because he gets a reaction.
  9. OH told me whilst our Kelpie was on tablets for a month "You need to do them, he won't let me" (This was 2 wks in and I'd de-sensitised him and he'd now just eat them)... I said na, all you do is this... Told the dog to sit and threw it at him... Boom, down the hatch So now OH can give him tablets too! He was amazed.. but that's because I was calm about it, and he was always worrying... but now he doesn't have to worry
  10. It's a bit gross, but you get used to it.. It's the surefire way to do it... Obviously if your dog is agressive or snaps, well it's not recommended.. but otherwise
  11. You're not putting it back far enough Back on the tongue, nice and far back like we do when we take tablets, hold gob shut, tip head back, stroke her throat... follow up with a yummy treat.. With our kelpie, i'd treat him, shove the tablet down his gob, and follow up with another treat. Mr "I don't do tablets" kelpie now takes them if i throw them at him, cos he thinks he's getting treats after doing that a few times.. He's now like Tilly's dog. Makes life easier. The viz still spits them out, so down the back of his throat for him!
  12. Move him to your bedroom. Vizsla's need to be near their people. Our pup screamed his heart out when he was in the lounge room. We moved him to the bedroom and he was fine... A few months later, we tried again and had the same problem... So now he just stays in our room... Wouldn't have it any other way.
  13. Dexenion, i find here it's worse after chicken mince too!! If he has chicken frames he has to stay outside the rest of the day
  14. Bundy will fart all the time. He's getting better as he gets older, but at one point it was, "step" fart "step" fart, "stretch" fart... you get the picture.. he's a shocker. He's been like that since 11 weeks... Weirdo edit - vets said he was just odd.
  15. Remove the water earlier, ours don't drink after 7, or if they do it's only a tiny amount. You could always try crating her overnight? Has she been checked by the vet?
  16. I started throwing around names as soon as we knew. I wanted to call him Turbo, to go with Diesel.. but I'm really glad we didn't because he's not a "Turbo" because he's so laid back, that if he was any more relaxed he'd go backwards ;) However, if he was a permanently hyperactive nutcase, it would suit! In the end, he got Bundy, because we both like Bundy rum and OH wouldn't agree to anything else It really suits him.
  17. Karanook Park I think it is, near Moorabbin Bunnings isn't bad.. but it's not really foresty.
  18. Personally I think if one's out, both should be.. They can curl up together and keep each other warm that way. What's fair is fair, no matter what... OH tried the whole but they should sleep outside argument, and tried to tell me the new one would be out and Diesel inside.. WRONG.. both dogs are house dogs
  19. He's a shocker, it drives me crazy, but he's been like this ever since he first came home! I think I might have to look into it for him, but he also has a habit of scratching his bedding and tearing it up to make a 'nest' so I'd hate for him to do that to a heated bed.
  20. I had the same problem last night.. he was lying on the couch shivering and crying ( he will keep it up for hours no matter how much we ignore him) because he was freezing. I tucked him into his crate with his doona on top of him, and that worked last night... If he wears a coat he eats it until he can take it off. I think he'll end up with doggie jammies this year, he really doesn't like the cold. His preference (all year round!) would be to sleep under the doona on the bed, but it's not an option! We also change his diet coming up to winter and through winter, so he carries a little bit more weight(2kg max), as this helps him stay warmer, and he's less likely to drop weight from shivering. The cold temps the past 2 days have been enough for him to lose weight already.. I've not had a dog so sensitive to cold as him before, so he'll probably be heading off to the vet for a check up next week just to be sure.. I'm also tossing up on getting him a snugglesafe disk as well to see if that helps.
  21. Fresh 4 Paws is awesome.. It was only costing me $20 a week when I had my boy on it. Website is www.fresh4paws.com.au I think.
  22. You do realise it's not real... Darkrai is not retired, and this is a story that's been doing the rounds under varying names for years...
  23. That's a stupid rule.... and when you consider how long people, and puppies sleep for overnight, it's not a lot at all. If people followed that rule you wouldn't be able to crate train properly!!
