  1. I breed to a standard which includes good health and temperament. If you were breeding only to show then no wonder you were disappointed in your results.
  2. only if you let them get away with it. And desexed dogs and bitches can be just as bad! Treat it like another training task.
  3. This is why you have a very detailed contract. Not all breeding dogs are shown but a lot of people would say that ishighly desirable. As for what happens if he does't turn out the way the breeder wants or they choose not to use him again that needs to be in writing. Also what happens if he gets injured or even dies before stud duties are done? It all needs to be written down.
  4. so if half the pups were show quality and were sold for $2000 that = $12000 plus $1000 each for the pet pups, in total that is $18000 potentially! (going with my pretend 12 pups from previous post) ETA of course it's not just the money but these type of arrangements can end up very messy. You need to be very sure about all of this. And have whatever you agree to in writing. If the breeder is one whose dogs you really, really like then think about it. Breeders are allowed to make money on litters but, from the puppy price it seems the stud fee would normally be a lot more then the $500 reduction that she would give you.
  5. but how many stud duties? I have no idea of pom prices but say they are $1000 each and he ends up siring 3 litters of 4, that's $12000, less costs of course, but the breeder could still make a reasonable sum of money out of the dog. And for that all you get is a reduced price? Nope. Buy him outright and if he turns out good enough then negoiate a stud fee if and when the time comes.
  6. hmm, think long and hard and make sure everything is in writing! Who gets the stud fee, do you still pay full price for the pup if she uses him over one of her own bitches, how many times will she use him, who owns him while all this is happening, when can you get him desexed if you want to etc, etc.
  7. is the landlord agreeable? I'd want it in writing for just in case.
  8. Why don't you breed what you think are correct dogs then? Judges put up what they think best fits the standard. Just what you say you want to do; put up your version of what fits the standard best

  10. Hi there, I am in the process of sourcing insulation materials to insulate and line my van so it is comfortable for me and my pup to go away in (both for keeping the van cool in summer and warm in winter), can you tell me what kind of insulation you used for your van and how you installed it BC4ME? Or if anyone else has had experience with insulating a van, any suggestions would be appreciated, both of materials and possible suppliers in NSW or ACT. Cheers, Jive This interests me too.
  11. do you already know what dates the Standards are being shown at the Royal? Cause I've been looking and can't find anything about what breeds are on what days or are you just going to stay for the whole time?
  12. Hmmm, that was my concern. My boy had the 6 month implant, has had it for around 4-5 months now and it's showing no signs of wearing off just yet. actually, up until around 6 weeks ago his testicles were still shrinking. At this stage I'd like to continue with the Suprelorin rather than desex him but am not keen on giving him a double dose. I presume that if the vet put in a second implant before the first had completely worn off that the dog would be getting a higher dose of hormones? (or what-ever is in it)? I'm trying to get my head around it... Kei was the first dog that our vet had done so they have no experience with it either. if you are not going to breed with him what about a vasectomy? If you are going to breed with him there is no way I would be implanting anything ever again.
  13. Bitches don't read books! They are all different. A large percent will do exactly what the books says but many don't and that's normal too. My GSD was book perfect, my greyhound not so but still normal. The GSD was eventually shown to have an abnormal uterus, the greyhound went on to have 2 litters. You could have blood all the way through or it might stop never to appear again until the next time.
  14. Gee all my pups are chucked into the crate and the door shut on them, have I been doing it wrong all this time  I've never played a crate game with them. They sook a little bit then go to sleep.
  15. The people entering the yard were idiots but so are your friends for not making sure no one can get in the yard when they know they have a dog that will bite. They get some kid in there chasing a ball ( and yes I know the kid shouldn't go in but they do ) and the parents cry foul, it's the dog that will pay. The dog would have more chance if the kid was shown to force a padlock or climb the fence as opposed to just opening an unlocked gate.
  16. Only if you have a small dog lol or if you have a large one who likes to lean on the sides and roll them over, no matter what brand of soft crate she is in
  17. More education about dog ownership for people from different cultures / OS students is definitely something which I think needs to be done, and am quite passionate about it, however I have seen countless cases where no matter how much you educate someone they just won't listen and will still go out and do as they please. Sometimes it really is just the different way of thinking and culture differences. Although more effort in terms of education could certainly possibly go a long way and welfare / rescue groups should explore that avenue. The bolded bit isn't limited to other cultures believe me!
  18. lovely video, good luck with finding a special girl her special home :)
  19. a purebred is a purebred when it has registration papers to prove it's parentage. Your pup can not do so and the fact the so called breeder was in hospital and things were left to teenagers
  20. VERY dedicated, I hate unruly, undisciplined dogs with a passion! I think you are being too hard on the pup. She is 4 months old, lighten up.
  21. I'd leave her out. If they were to play at fencing running, the sudden stops and tunrs can also cause damage.
  22. 1st litter - 2 pups - stopped allowing them to suck at around 6 weeks or so. 2nd litter - 8 pups - stopped feeding at 3 weeks. I took over feeding, bitch stilled cleaned them. Pups allowed full interactions with all adult dogs under supervison from 4 weeks.
  23. no it isn't. Steve has previously posted a photo of a beagle crossed with something else that to all intents and purposes looked loke a beagle. There were two? photo's posted, one was a pure beagle, one was not. And it was nigh impossible to tell the difference.
  24. you don't need a password to access the schedule's, they are listed under the what's happening banner on the front page. anyone can see them.
