  1. Yes. Can you not discuss this with your girls breeder?
  2. Be aware Dexter could have bruising around his throat and check him very carefully to make sure there isn't a tooth hole as they can become very nasty.
  3. well they might but they also would have had less then an adult who was 3 or 4.
  4. A good strong cattery attached to the house, with fencing between the dog and the cattery and good solid doors within the house. As a cat owner there is no way I would take a chance on a 10 year old dog becoming cat tolerant. I would figure that my cats would outlive the dog, the dog will be gone sooner rather then later and would keep them apart until dog has passed. Would save a lot of stress on all 3 animals, especially if cats are unused to dogs. We have had to keep a close eye on one of my greyhounds whenever we went to my daughter's house. Her cats lived with a greyhound, my greyhound lived with cats but one of the daughters cats gave off distinct victim vibes, which increased the interest in him by my grey. Last visit down there the cat decided he had had enough of this and started acting normally, mooching around instead of slinking etc and the greyhound lost all interest. It was a very interesting thing to see and very clear. There was no way my cat tolerant dog would have ever been left alone with this cat and we still don't let cats and dogs alone together. And these animals were used to living with the other species.
  5. I thought temperature induced infertility only impacted on the sperm already made/in production? Mind you if it can cause problems in the short term what's to say it can't cause long term problems as well. Interesting discussion. What about imported bitches, they are born with all the ova needed, has there been a corresponding drop in their fertility or is it harder to detect?
  6. Cat would be fine for a day, so would the dogs. I'd only stop when I needed the loo or petrol. That's when the dogs would get their toilet time. My dogs are happy to toilet every 6 or so hours, they would never go every 2. Trying to get them to go that often would add a couple of hours to the trip.
  7. I don't need a study to tell me that pain can shorten the fuse!
  8. I'm pretty sure your only options are Holden Commodore/Adventra or Ford Falcon. Even then I don't know you'd get 2 x lab crates on top of a false floor. My research on the above wagons with two greyhounds was for them to be on either the back seat with the foot wells filled in and the gear in the back or visa versa. I couldn't fit in a false floor and put the greys in. Mind you they are a bit taller then labs.
  9. why not! Congratulations on your boys score.
  10. when they first arrive or after they have been here a while?
  11. yes greyhounds in Victoria are supposed to be on lead at all times unless on private property. There are however a couple of places where they have organised days at slipping tracks. Plus plenty of walks are organised.
  12. And why would a dog not just make its own fun outside too? That's why there are so many dogs that bark, dig, escape and pull washing off the line. Inside or outside doesn't make any difference, you still need to provide entertainment for the dog. only ever had one dog that tried the washing on the line and sure a few dug a few holes but on the whole, nope never had any real problems with them being outside on their own. If they felt like a bit of fun they could run around, chuck toys around etc, much less damaging being outside then allowed the run of the house. But as the OP has said she lives in an apartment it doesn't matter what happens outside.
  13. please make sure that she can't leap over the balcony railing.
  14. I had pretty poor reports on the Kangoo from someone who had a fleet of them at their work. I'd look closer at the VW Caddy if I was buying now, they weren't around when I got my little van. eta. The little vans are courier vehicles, so made for driving around town. My van is my only car and very easy to park etc. I'm hesitant to go to something bigger for my everyday car too. I used to have a little Ford Escort panel van many, many moons ago. Could relive my youth with a Caddy  I was looking at a Caddy 7 years ago before I traded my stationwagon in on my Mazda and decided I was cutting down on dog stuff, I should have known better
  15. better late then never Dr Bek Day at http://alpinevet.com.au/ Poerpunkah, near Bright, going to use her for my dogs
  16. I could see you in a Caddy Maxi Anne! False floor/drawer for the gear and the greys on top. FHRP made a good point about vans to me a while back - avoid side windows - they add a lot of heat to the vehicle in Summer. enabler alert  The renault is slightly bigger in the back but might be harder to find and more expensive to service. See doing some research already. Whatever I get it must be ok to drive around town in, won't be just my dog car, it will be the only car.
  17. She's a young active dog, why can she not be left outside? She'll be bored out of her brain locked in a house all day, so she'll make her own fun. I would never trust a 7 month old loose in the house for hours at a time nor expect her to control her bladder for all that time. She has now learnt that the house is a place to toilet in. So why not squat next to you?
  18. I am really enjoying this thread and now have several different makes of cars to research. Thanks to the OP for starting it!
  19. I don't think people are keeping the bags for repeated use. Just using what is handy.
  20. I am sorry your boy is going through this but maybe it's time to think of the dog and let him go with peace and dignity.
  21. I admit to thinking the same but not a puppy, can't raise a greyhound puppy properly in an apartment.
  22. I think you will find it is a lot older then that in quite a few breeds.
  23. I thought about something like this but worried about getting an old or sick dog in one. I've had enough trouble getting old/ill dogs into my Mazda to make me very aware of this aspect. I don't trade my cars very often and I'm on my own so ease of getting dogs in is very important to me. Just another thing to think of :)
  24. how do your dogs get in? via the side door and is it lower or do they jump up onto the back? what would you do differently?
  25. I am looking at getting either a Ford or Holden station wagon in the next 12 months but not a brand new one as the sloping back takes away a lot of space. I would do similar to Leema and have the greyhounds in the back seat with the foot wells covered in so they have more room. Well that's the plan now, goodness knows what will really happen when the time comes
