  1. Slinky is the name of the OP's dog which she bought from a pet shop in Perth in 2010.
  2. Kels you are obviously determined to have your dog identified as a very rare breed, so rare there is none other in the country, so just call her whatever you want. Slinky looks like a nice dog, just love her for what she is, a dog of unknown breeding. If it makes you feel better to call her a Sloughi to you friends well, I don't understand that need, but it seems you need to do it. Maybe next time actually buy a registered pure breed and then you won't be so torn, all your threads seem to be about what breed is my dog.
  3. your dog is not a Sloughi. She is a greyhound cross maybe 3/4 greyhound.
  4. I have greyhounds and have a 4 foot high fence making a reasonable size puppy yard with a large kennel in the middle of it. Pups were in there over night and had free run of the backyard during the day. This was for the litter last year and they were outside from 4 weeks of age, day and night, mainly cause I was so ill and was not capable of carrying them back inside. It was the depths of winter and they coped fine! Better then me. I was so ill I nearly rang a friend to take them for me. Normally I would have had them inside overnight but it turned out fine.
  5. If we were south I would but it's too hot up here, I'm lucky to have any sheets on the bed at all! oops didn't notice that, but I would still throw the fleece on, but on the dogs side  I did buy a pair of pants for my girl but I hated them on her, worried about lack of air flow etc. But heaps use them so it must just be me :)
  6. I 2nd the scoff stopper. Otherwise my piggy would make some awful noises as he tried to keep everything dow. I think it was all the air he swallowed.
  7. or just put some extra fleece throws onto the bed, that's all I did with my girl.
  8. I wouldn't be giving heartworm preventive to an 8 week old pup in the middle of winter but that's just me. I never start mine until they are around 4 or 5 months depending on the season.

    Puppy With Fleas!

your pup could have come from the breeder with fleas, or got them on the trip over to you or got them from your own back yard. Go to the vet and get a spot on for all your pets.
  10. I feel for you but people have to jump through all sorts of hoops to get home oxygen, it is not easy. I understand you want your girl at home but really the setting doesn't matter. You are spending all this time and angst on getting the oxygen, and whilst you might want to say goodbye at home to Penny it wouldn't really matter to her. She will know she was loved regardless.
  11. I had a greyhound who lay perfectly still for a shoulder xray but when I mentioned hip and elbow scoring they have to be done while the dog is knocked out.
  12. I'm glad you asked Padraic as I was wondering the same thing :)
  13. I feed Pal and raw minced chicken carcasses. Pal dry food was the only one that all my dogs would eat and do well on.
  14. yep in Vic they have to be muzzled unless they have gone through GAP and passed. Crossbreds don't have to be muzzled.
  15. The odds are in favour that a male would fit in best with your 2 girls but I really agree with your vet. No good getting a bossy boy who hassles the bitches all the time for example and some do, desexed or not. Maybe ask the breeder/s of the girls you have.
  16. I've had a recent quote for hip and elbow xrays which included the reading for $400.
  17. I had a greyhound that could not handle chicken necks, would regularly vomit yellow bile with the tiniest bit of bone in it. Stopped the chicken necks and he stopped vomiting. If giving a bit of dry keeps the dog and you happy then feed it.
  18. He most likely isn't eating much due to pain. I too have no idea why you are still going to the same vet that you deemed useless last time?
  19. my greyhounds do the same, they just get in the zone
