  1. I have greyhounds and they sleep outside at night with just two coats on in their kennel when I work. The nights I am home they sleep inside but no heating pads. Does your dog really need a heating pad or is it for your peace of mind? I do have a couple of heated beds but they were for the old dog and cat. They won't be used this year for my young/ish healthy pets.
  2. Her cycle could be perfectly normal for her. I start my prog testing at day 2 and go every 2nd day until told otherwise/the timing is right. I would always prog test anyway unless the stud dog was living on the property.
  3. I never said it should be up to the committee - I suggested a sub-contractor/private operator to offer the service to first come first served at the bigger grounds on particular days! but how would a private operator even know such a service could be offered unless someone contacts them first? :) Either yourself or another parent needs to suss out the ins and outs of such an idea and present it to the VCA and get their take on it all, then if you are given the ok, you would take it from there. Otherwise it does become just another job that is expected for a show committee to organise. Personally I like Haredown Whippets suggestion.
  4. you are asking this 2 years after the event
  5. You do realise that some things like HD can show no obvious signs and the dog can be shown and titled before being x-rayed and the HD discovered? The same with some of the eye conditions? That in most catalogues the parentage of the dogs is displayed? It's what the person does after they discover their dog has a serious fault that counts IMO.
  6. totally agree, I've had one that was a minute too late and it was horrible. I've never forgiven myself for not doing better by him
  7. Pedigree papers are "written up" by the controlling body in each state. You may get the papers after you get the puppy due to some states requirements that pups have to be microchipped before they are registered. ie, I don't chip my pups until 8 weeks of age, then I send in th epaperwork which can take a few weeks to get back, in which time pup is already in new home. You can ring your states controlling body to see if the breeder is currently regsitered with them. But unless the paperwork for that litter has already been submitted they can't tell you if the litter is registered. So there has to be some amount of trust on your behalf. Likewise for the breeder to trust the things you are telling them. If you are feeling uneasy best to keep looking until you find a breeder you like and trust.
  8. at 5 months of age the pup is too young to have HD diagnosed unless the vet used the PennHip method which is doubtful. Did they even do x-rays? If so did they know how to position the pup correctly? Simple falls can cause bad breaks cause while they look simple or small to us they weren't. I'd be getting a 2nd opinion before doing anything.
  9. the white spot will most likely get smaller in time but as said other things are much more important. I believe there are several health tests that an ethical breeder will have had done on the parents. please ask to see the paperwork for these. Maybe pop into the Stafford thread for more help. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/50264-stafford-fans/
  10. OHS issues, somewhere to put the dirty newspaper safely out of the way so you don't slip on it, ditto tripping on other bedding. Safe electrical equipement for human and canine. Box too small may result in overheated pup or dam.
  11. Congratulations anyway, it was a great weekend for him
  12. everything crossed for your 3rd Open neuter in show in a row Capanash
  13. I take it that I can advertise a litter as being available up to the age they can be sold - 8 weeks. After 8 weeks I can't advertise them without their chip number. If I advertise that I have a litter of 4 dogs and 4 bitches and some may be for sale once they are 8 weeks old I am in the clear. I have not defined which ones are for sale or that there will be any for sale at all. Once I say the yellow bitch is for sale I must include the chip number.
  14. My dogs always get my apple cores when I am finished with them :D
  15. How disappointing. I did see a few gazebo's with the roof caved in Luckily the one I was using faired quite well. Hopefully we'll see you back later this year.
  16. and I wonder whose poodle this might be :D Congratulations!
  17. Please stop feeding the calcium right away. Give your dog a raw chicken wing instead.
  18. You know something, you can breed from the two most perfect parents in the world and still end up with sh!t. Sometimes you just have to acknowledge you are dealing with a living creature with goodness knows how many different genes rattling around in their body and not all of them hit the right spot. Luxating patella is like hip dysplaysia, sometimes, no matter what the breeder does, what they breed from, what the owner does re exercise and feeding, the dog does develop problems. Personally, if I had bred your dog, and my dogs were sound, then I wouldn't be paying out anything for any vet bills. I don't guarantee my dogs will be the next big show winner or breeding dog, they are sold on potenial only. They are sold at 8 - 12 weeks old. A lot happens after that which a breeder has no control over. I have a sh!t happens dog here. He's desexed and loved, and I started again.
  19. I couldn't believe how wet it was, we are only 45 minutes down the road and have had hardly any rain, nothing like Albury/Wodonga has had. But once the sun came out the water did start to drain away, tomorrow should be nice but will still be wet underfoot. I need to bring a change of shoes and socks for in the ring.
  20. or find a friend who is a member who can download and send the schedules to you each month :)
  21. I admit I thought puppy in group was also going to be a shortlist and four placings, same as BIG but oh well it wasn't I and moved on.
  22. It was also said the child was told to stay away from the dog by the dog's owner which the Mum denies was said. If true why did the owner take the dog into the gazebo? Where they invited in? Did they ask to borrow shade as often happens? Like it or not we have only heard one side of the story. And no offense but it is a biased side, same as if the dog owner was on here telling their side. Emotions, understandably, are running high, every single person in the area would have heard, seen something different and all would believe they are telling the truth. I hope the child recovers 100% physically and mentally.
