  1. Very happy about this yet your next sentence is lots of dogs are going to be destroyed. There is no plan in place as yet. Maybe in 3 months according to the Government. What happens to all the greys in Vic, for example, waiting their turn to go into GAP or rescue? Will they be displaced by NSW dogs? Are all the bleeding hearts a suitable home for a greyhound? I'd suggest no. It's not as if they couldn't have adopted a greyhound previously so why didn't they? Cause they don't want one. The homes aren't there. The ANKC world had better hope eyes aren't turned their way, after all they have a few bad eggs who do the wrong thing, much like the greyhound world. And look at what has happened to Greyhounds NSW. think is pretty obvious answer. The precendent is set. some bad eggs mean the rest go too. was wondering why no questions in the censis asked if a household had pets , what species and how many? now that would have let the cat out of the bag as to how many there actually are would have been seriously interesting to have accurate instead of estimate figures well apparently some in the farming sector think they will be next under the spotlight Yes I think so and I very much fear that if NSW wins then the rest of the country will fold within 10 years and what becomes of my beloved breed then?

  3. I understand that all greyhounds born after 1st July 2017 will automatically be allowed to be muzzle free. Disaster waiting to happen. Once a few unsuitable greyhounds rip apart a few small fluffies they will go the way of the pitbull here in Vic and be banned totally. BSL at it's finest.
  4. Same breed ?? Different breeds, this one is a cobberdog and the older dog was a mixed small white fluffy (very gentle personality) dog but who liked sleeping/cuddling a lot What's a cobberdog? I know it's some sort of a cross breed but can't think what for the life of me. It's mostly a multi-generation labrador x poodle, but also has some spaniels in there - its a breed in development at the moment. I think the MDBA are trying to register it as a Cobberdog and there another group called the Australian Labradoodle Association which is registering it as an "Australian Labradoodle" Ta, I couldn't for the life of me recall if it was the lab x poodle or the other one also supposedly in development which has bulldogs? being crossed

  6. 25 puppies of the same age! Guess they need better fences. I worry that you think "your" litter will get better attention then the others. All the pups should get the same attention and inter action but whether that happens you'll have to put your trust in your breeder. Have the teenagers all left school? Have the pups parents been DNA tested? Some deadly diseases in Border Collies. (Although, as one of the planned litters and from the breeder's favourite dog, the whelping box for my litter is in the breeders own bedroom and so this litter is likely to get the best attention).
  7. Vicks vapour rubs works well on wood. I speak from experience :D
  8. There is a difference between the thoroughbred industry being informed of the upcoming announcement and the thoroughbred industry being involved in some secret backroom talks (to their benefit, it is implied). And yes, a handful of pieces of evidence were incorrect. But for every questionable item, there were plenty that could be proven beyond a doubt. And equating a few buried pets with evidence of clubbed or shot dogs dumped in mass graves? Please, rebanne, you can argue better than that. Your backyard is in no way analogous to what was found at Bundaberg and you know it*. *Unless you've been euthanasing your pets with a baseball bat, in which case, accept my apologies for the assumption. From what can gather it is about the money each code gets from the TAB revenue. And you are becoming very offensive particularly since I lost Fern only 4 weeks ago. I won't be responding to you again.
  9. Maddy you are wrong about the thoroughbred industry not having advance notice about the closure of greyhound racing. I saw it, it's on YouTube. I posted about it somewhere (here or FB) along with the times in the video where it was talked about. This was filmed back in April. The bloke that was quoted that he drowned young pups that he decided wouldn't make good racers has been proven to be from an American back in 2005/6, nothing to do with Australian racing at all. Oh and my back yard is a bit of a graveyard, 5 large breed dogs and 2 cats. I cremate the dogs now as I no longer have room to bury them. ETA and the one trainer that said 20% of trainers live baited. I think the maths was that he would have had to know over 300 trainers (in NSW) well enough to know what they actually did.
  10. I only treat fleas if I see one which is very rare, usually if I have been to a place with a large number of dogs. Heartworm I give a monthly tablet (Valuheart) but give it every 6 weeks. Heartworm is a risk where I live ( a dog next door who never went anywhere had it ) and intestinal worms are 2 or 3 times a year at most.
  11. I love my dremel, the stylus model. The dogs tolerate it.
  12. I'd do a TCI with chilled semen. All my reading says only limited life after warming up. Not as short as frozen but still not very long. Research the life span and then you can make an informed decision.
  13. To put a greyhound into GAP Victoria it. used to cost the owner $100 and a C5 vaccination. Not sure what they have to pay nowadays. They also used to get the food donated to them or supplied at cost price. Again not sure what happens now. ETA just did a quick check, the "entry" fee is now 0, but the dogs still need a C5 to get in.
  14. I had a little porker, a crossbreed mutt, who was much like your girl, heavy at the front, slight waist, no rolls but really should have been 16-18 kilos instead of 20. In the end I just let it go and accepted she was a big girl. She lived to 15 with very little health issues so I figured her weight was right for her.
  15. Lure coursing for racing greyhounds is (was) strong in Vic. Yes it is only on a straight line but they are indeed coursing a drag lure. There are (were) 2 clubs within 90 minutes of me. My knowledge is several years old now but it was big back then.
  16. as am I. This is deliberate cruelty but "they" are allowed to do it. Yet "they" complain about shooting a dog. Euthanasia by a vet is not always a easy death either.
  17. My dogs all use past dogs stuff, including collars, maybe not straight away but everything does get reused. Phoebe is 2 now and still has not had a dog coat that has been purchased for her.
  18. Yes I saw this but am working that weekend
  19. 12 months and 4 years ago I believe. Why the delay? And what about the person who has had that footage for 4 years? Why the delay? Because the campaign against the ban seems to be gaining ground in the media and people's minds are being changed. Yeah I know. I was being sarcastic
  20. Well Im not outraged but why is it better for the RSPCA to take them and put them down when the breeders are perfectly capable of taking them to their own vets and doing the same thing? Exactly. At least they wouldn't be subjected to the RSPCA'S stressors while they (Rspca) decide what to do with them.

  22. No No No! Your pup doesn't need anything for heartworm until they are 6 months old. It is not that hard to remember, phone apps, big red crosses on a paper calendar. I use valuhart for my dogs and administer every 6 weeks. I use a paper calendar.
  23. Has he been back to the Chiro? I took my greyhound girl to Werribee vet hospital in Vic and yes spent over $5000 getting an MRI etc when the chiro could no longer fix her back problems. Hard to recommend what to do but it does sound a bit like a slipped disc or pinched nerve.
