Nsw To Ban Greyhound Racing From July 2017
Rebanne replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in In The News
My parents had 3 registered Pekes as pets. Only one had the very full coat seen in the show ring. They certainly could do much more then walk around a show ring, especially tge one that chased the mail man around tge front fence nearly every day of his life! All lived to double figures. The full coated one did lose an eye to injury. -
sounds good!

Blue is a colour that occurs in greyhounds and I have never seen a greyhound with colour dilution alopecia If the condition occurs in 25% of all blue dogs, I expect I'd have seen it at least once in greyhounds by now, especially considering I mostly deal with adult dogs. The alopecia that greyhounds do suffer from occurs across all colours- although is does seem worse with blacks- and with a lot of time and good, soft bedding, it can be resolved. Diltion alopecia might well be an issue in certain breeds but I think it's a stretch to say it's an any in all breeds that carry the dilution genes. Agree, I've seen plenty of blue greyhounds as well and all have had normal coats

Exactly I own my dogs -
He's put on half a kilo in 2 weeks. Nothing wrong with that. I think you need to relax.

Congratulations -
we didn't have the seesaw but we did have tunnels under the dogwalk! There was more then one person who hit their head from not ducking kick enough. Large dogs had to jump 900mm if I recall correctly. You had to be clear and in the fastest top half to go onto the 2nd round and to get a qually you also had to go clear and be in the top half in time. Very few people handled their dogs on the right hand side :D Yes handling is very, very different nowadays

I titled a GSD in agility when it 1st started ????

Yes I saw that too this afternoon, Rebanne. The timing of the announcement has been critical. Yes. To me it's made a mockery of any concerns the government had about the welfare of the dogs, they were only worried about winning the election. If they had really cared about the welfare they would already have a plan in place.

This is a video taken on 1st April 2016. At the 20 minute mark it is clearly stated greyhounds will be gone in 2 months. More said at the 38 minute mark. Wonder what would have happened to the Government if this had been made known before the election?

Yes. When live baiting came out it really kicked off a lot of interest in saving them. What worries me; there is the line is that if the dog has no tattoo, you can't prove it's a grey and therefore it doesn't need a muzzle. It makes a more appealing rehoming prospect. (edit; wtf is going on with my formatting!) I doubt you'll be able to buy one anyway once the businesses that provided greyhound racing supplies go to the wall. Of course you will even if it's off eBay and from overseas.

But slow doesn't automatically mean less of a prey drive. Just means they can't catch the bunny
-
The only fact is the two types of greyhounds look different. Underneath they are one and the same. I have owned both types and also fosterd for GAP. My current young silly girl had her counterpart in a young silly girl I fostered. My proper old men dogs have had their counterparts in the racing dogs. I have bred dogs with insane prey drive. I haven't bred any fast enough to win on a race track but I'm not alone in that as seen by the many racing greyhounds PTS for being too slow.

Take a fold up chair for starters????

I'd put my dogs down too before handing them over to places like the RSPCA.

Only difference it might make for me is more people will be wanting to buy a puppy. They would all be vetted for suitability as I've always done. My show bred greys have had no racing bloodlines since 1930 or so. A lot of imported semen is used in Australia (show greys) -
Do not haggle about the price. Fastest way to get a breeder off side. Mind you I gave a discount to an overseas buyer who bought 2 of my pups. The transport costs were pretty high and they were a great home which has been proven over 5 tears.

Would You Have A Greyhound And A Westie?
Rebanne replied to westiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
The only risk as I see it is when the greyhound will be doing zoomies. ???? But Andy will learn to get out of the way. My old girl stands still when the other two take off, they know where she is and avoid her. Once the first frantic dash is over then Fern will join in. -
I've not tried this myself but I have read one way to stop fence running (if they are also doing this as opposed to fighting in one spot) is to put small barriers or obstructions on the fence at intervals. It breaks up the straight running that builds up the aggression. If they have to swerve around things it takes them away from the actual fence. The explanation made sense to me. Can't recall where I read it.

Yes I had an email during the week. Pet Circle? But it might have only been for 24 hours.

It might make it much more difficult to find good homes for puppies but I am quite happy to not have a popular breed. Soŕry you have been dragged into the mire Gemini

I think her head is a bit spitz like

Don't waste your money on a DNA test. They have been proven wrong many times. Yes try the breed club and also a few more details wpuld help; height, weight, a full body shot.
