  1. I will be trying to watch online for the retrievers. I love the Chesapeake Chesabar's True Grit, hopefully a Chesapeake will get top honours this year . Or your shiba.
  2. A couple of other users (bilbo baggins maybe) are far more qualified to answer this then me because they have met Lincoln's parents many times. I have met one other adult Chesapeake and now I have Lincoln.Lincoln has a wooly fluffy undercoat and his adult coat is starting to grow out now. The adult coat is oily, by that I mean it has a very slight greasy feel but not so 'greasy' that the oil will rub off on furniture/blankets/hands, it's kind of like my hair feels when haven't washed it for 4 or 5 days. Hope that helps. One of Lincolns' sisters as gone to a show home in NSW so you may be seeing a Chesapeake around there soon.
  3. Not as exciting as some but.. at training Toby did a big sequence of 12 jumps and a tunnel! And it had some hard angles. AND THEN HE DID IT AGAIN THE NEXT TIME! :D I know its so dorky but we were having some issues that we have overcome.
  4. I was working this morning but I got dad to move Toby's jumps so this eveing I will be practicing pinwheels with him (which means I barely move and he runs a round alot )
  5. It hasn't rained yet for Lincoln but he does love the shower!
  6. Watch this space, I am writing up some info but I am making sure it is all well written and verifired.
  7. Just a bump to find out if anyone has any interetsing doggy activities planned for the weekend?
  8. Thats ok, I had my hands a bit full with the two of them. Did you see the liver Flat Coat there? How cute was she, and between her, Leila and Lincoln there were 3 brown, immature gundogs. Yeah, she has heaps of potential and when you have her attention, you really have it....when you lose it, it is all over! It doesnt help that we are still learning too. Valley, I meant to have a chat but Leila had lost it! Your baby is so precious.
  9. I was after a black and white one, preferably with a heart shaped marking or marking that spells out the word mum.
  10. What exactly is expected of baby puppies in the ring? Lincoln can gait on the leash but is not enjoying stacking so I am only doing small lessons so I don't ruin showing for him. I have him entered in a show under an international judge in over 2 weeks but am considering withdrawing him if the judge will be expecting him to be able to stack perfectly.
  11. Yep When i signed up I didn't know that you had in your info where you were from, so that made the WA part redundant. So now it is breed based
  12. Do the signs have the words and the pictures or just the pictures?
  13. The main issue is dogs bonding more tightly with each other then the owner and the stress of having two pups at once. Did you find it difficult going to obidience class with two dogs?
  14. A bit far for me and the baby, but would have been a really good first show otherwise! I am looking for a new job where I don't have weekends so later on in the year I can do country shows and make it a whole weekend. Are you staying the night?
  15. Carey J- I am in your class too! I am the newbie with the brown Kelpie I saw your girl and she is very cute but was all excited like a pup. OH just popped in to City Farmers to check about this and they did say it was only for the small bags.
  16. Another problem is the recommended dosages on dog kibble bags, I found that if I feed Toby more then half the recommended amount he will put on weight, and he is a very active dog that gets a lot of training and exercise.
  17. Our floors are just concrete or tiles atm because we are renovating so it makes having a puppy pretty easy.
  18. abe books is very good too. You can often find used books a great deal cheaper (if you don't mind reading used books ) http://www.abebooks.com/
  19. I doubt I am an advanced dog person but I have read this one and found it very helpful. I have been using his book as a guideline to help me research 'type' in my breed.
  20. Lincoln (Chesapeake) will have the weight issues like a lab when he is older, but my agility instructor has eyes like a hawk and will notice when Toby has put on a few hundred grams, so no doubt he will help me with Lincoln too. I think if you can feel the ribs but not see them thats fine (well for Toby who has no coat, might not work for a coated breed)
  21. I liked how she wuld have had a hailstone lab in her kennel to improve her lines because of thier great coats, even though they are non standard. Didn't you find it interesting when she was talking about the lab outcrosses during WWII. I loved the way in that books she noted that as an English breeder, she always had the option of exporting her second string dogs to breeders in other countries..
  22. poodle fan I just read Adavanced Labrador Breeding by Mary Roslin Williams which would be a great read if you can get your hands on it. It has therioes about how novice breeders get stuck and how mediocre breeders are made and what is needed to become a great breeder. (Dislaimer: I am planning in breeding one day down the line, I am just researching now so I don't get wrong information/ideas when the time comes)
  23. The leaner a dog is the better for it. Just ignore them. I have a friend with a healthy sized lab and he gets comments from people with thier fat labs all the time (btw the lab in question is 9 years old and has never been sick/had a joint problem/slowed down)
