  1. I train at PTODC in bassendean. The class sizes are very small and the instructors set you exercises individually, so you move at your own pace. The best things to have down pat for agility are a good recall and good stays. Having your dog with a high toy drive is really helpful but not essential, me and toby have been training at this all year.
  2. Maybe they said Danish and you misheard, or they were wrong. An appenzeller seddunhund or entelebucher kind of fit the description.
  3. Netherlands Breeds Drentsche Patrijshond (Dutch Partridge Dog) Dutch Smoushond Keeshond Kooikerhondje Stabyhoun Wetterhoun Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Saarloos Wolfdog Dutch Shepherd Any ring a bell?
  4. When Tiggy (I need the details ) Rally is something I would really enjoy doing and Toby is starting obidience again next week. I saw the funniest clip on you-tube of a Chessie at rally-o, it didn't down but did a bow and stayed like that until it had to move, but you could see his tail wagging and just his bum over all the other dogs.
  5. It was nice to hear your prospective LuvMyWhiteShep. I think (from the sounds of things) the idea is to import the best bitch I can, regardless of lines and then use the AI to add diversity. Sandgrubber- I can't say about the coat yet but Lincoln has not been too headstrong, I agree its not a dog for a first tme dog owner but I like that even as a pup he is more mature then my friends 9yo lab .
  6. Does anyone know when you expect numbers back from the Western Classic? It's my first show and I have no idea if its when your entry is in or when the catalouge is printed.
  7. If you like gundogs maybe look a little into Chesapeakes. They seem to fit the bill and they seem to excel in family enviroments.
  8. Wow that looks great mirawee! Maybe the ducks will just add to the fun
  9. (i) Dimensions: The competition venue shall consist of a dock forty (40) feet long (12.2m) by eight (8) (2.4m) feet wide. The dock shall rest no more or less than twenty-four (24) inches off of the water surface (61 cm). The length of the dock is the hardest, but if the dock and shore were level then the dock wouldn't have to be as long.
  10. Would the jetty at riverside gardens be too high? (Goes off to find rules)
  11. Rubystar- All it needs is for a few people interested and a venue. I REALLY would love to start a club, but I have no idea for suitable venues for training. Is there a lake a whitemans park?
  12. Yes Tiggy especially since we are renovating and have no paving only dirt the whole way around our house.
  13. Are you looking at getting another dog now Tiggy ?
  14. Thanks lilli. Your answer was great and now I have some things to mull over, what you said about bringing in the best dam possible really struck a chord. (Off Topic) People down the road from me used to have an Anatolian and I always remember her patrolling thier fence line, her name was Lady and she was such a nice looking dog.
  15. Ok. I am rephrasing my question: Has anyone been involved with a rare breed? If you have what stratigies did you use to help your breed in the long run? Did you bring in diffrent lines and make outcrosses with the knowlege that they can breed back in the future (but maybe sacrifice quality)? OR Did you breed the best dogs you could regardless if it created diversity? Showdog- I know for an import an absolute minimum figure would be around $10,000 total. If I want to make a 10 year plan I first have to figure out which lines are in it. I already have a few ideas in the back of my mind of lines/dogs that I think would complement what is already in Australia and build on it. BUT saying that I won't even be contacting overseas breeders about possible litters until Lincoln is 2 years old and has had a proper evaluation and health tests in case I want to consider him in a future breeding plan. That will also give me time to learn more. (I hope that explains my position better)
  16. http://dogsinthenews.com/stories/061008a.php The record for the worlds clumsiest dog also goes to labs.
  17. I don't think Toby would exel but is a sport I would like to see for maybe Lincoln in the future. Plus I think it would be such a laugh and the training could be only summers (opposite hunting season for the gundogs ).
  18. This is just something that has been mulling over in my head. Chesapeake's are a rare breed in Australia and New Zeland . I am starting to save now because in a few years I want to import a bitch that I can hopefully use as a foundation for my breeding program. I would love to import a bitch from my dog's line BUT in doing so I am bringing less genetic diversity into a country that needs it. Should I instead be thinking of bringing in an outcross so that in future we will have more choices, rather then limiting them now. I was wondering if anyone else has expirenced a similar situation and what you did? Disclaimer: 1. I am aware that bringing in a bitch does not entitle me to breed her regardless of health testing/temprament/working ability (same goes for possible future breeding of my dog). 2. I am not saying that if I brought in a bitch from my dogs line I would necesarily breed them togther, I would look using AI from an overseas stud to get the best match.
  19. That article was written by someone with common sense
  20. I would LOVE to start a dock diving club But I would have no idea of a good venue OR if there will be much interest OR if it will ever become a proper Australian sport.
  21. Chesapeake Bay Retriever My all time fav is BIS Am/Can CH Silvercreek Remington Steele JH WD. He was such a handsome boy!
  22. Pretty sure the world record holder is a greayhound that was pretty close to 2m high (over an agility style jump) but maybe google will know.
  23. My cousins had a dingo cross (no really, they lived in Kal) and she was the sweetest dog. They would always get wild dingos come to thier fence and they would just stare at each other.
  24. ST you can bring him to my house to meet my sheep. They are pretty used to dogs annoying them and unless he singles out one of the (now 6 month old) lambs they won't bite .
