The joys of trialling multiple dogs. Lincoln just does he high pitched puppy bark until he exhausts himself and falls asleep.
-
Maybe... did you find out if its ok for you to join half way through the term? It is nice and local...
-
Well I am gifted at being a troublemaker! In all seriousness is it Southern River where there is no instructor you just do equipment? If so I think I might join to get some practice with the tyre, collapsed tunnel and longer sequences. I have Toby entered but if I can't get his focus or I feel I'm losing him I will be pulling out straight away.

I was thinking that we could do a very sneaky diversion and for the first person in (probably you) I can pretend to faint and Rubystar can start screaming for help really hysterically... Then when I am in we can pretend that Lincoln is a lost puppy... and you yell really loudly... but no one can know hes mine or they will look at me in the ring... so maybe Rubystar can put some lab hair in a bag and we can make Lincoln a lab coat.......

Anyone planning on going to Geraldton?

Me too Amy (same trial as well)!! Maybe we can look out for each other and create huge diversions!

I was never going to run Toby in agility, only Jumpers due to him breaking his leg at 9 weeks and being in a cast till 5 months. His leg has healed better then the vets imagined so he has been given the A-Frame ok. This means now I have to teach contacts and I have also been a bit slack and not yet taught weaves. I was looking at various methods and wondering what have people had luck with and what wouldn't you recommend? Especially DVD's wise and extra especially Clean Runs Video On Demand DVD's Found Here

Dog Not Wanting To Work In Class Some Days
RallyValley replied to Mas1981's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I pulled Toby out of classes a few weeks after I started and then just went for the social aspect. I let him be a dog until he was 12 months, then I started him in agility, which required focus but is a big game for him so he is playing (plus of course playing with your dog is required). I took him back to obidience at the start of the year at 1 and a half and he now has the ability to maintain concentration for the 5x 10 min blocks of training. -
Some of the things you hear are just so horrible. Lucky it turned out well for you..
-
If you have a Berner breeder locally you like and they seem like someone you might want to get involved with you could offer to help out at shows and you will probably pick up lots of info about the breed and showing, plus how to handle and present them.

I believe there are Chesapeakes in the USA that do it. Definetaly not most peoples image of a schtz dog! And even one dog that has schtz III
-
Can you PM me too? Otherwise Monday night at K9 someone is doing it.

Lucky me with Retrieving classes, tracking classes and agility trials all clashing! :D I think that Tracking might be first priority though cause Lincoln hasn't got a 'thing' yet (he will also be 6 months by mid tracking season).

Hitting The Ring For The First Time
RallyValley replied to angelsophie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Lincoln had his first show, was fussy about having his teeth looked at and wanted to play instead of stack but gaited beautifuly. However he is teething right now and being a little monster about having them looked at so I am thinking of working on training the behaviour with a clicker until it improves before I enter him in a show again. I also managed to run into the ring ropes -
Ask the obidience club instructor, I know I had to get a vet clearance to take Toby to certain classes due to his pronounced limp he used to have from the broken leg. Plus the liability side of things. You may find you are not welcome at class (Toby wasn't for quite a while).

Thank you for the hard work. I know Toby will LOVE his I Squeaks and it will be so exciting waiting as such a klarge group for the parcel (I love parcels ). After seeing Cider with it on Monday I can only imagine what she would be like with two boxes of ISqueaks. When is the payment deadline?
-
Toby is like that too, I am sure a lot of dogs are. Plus they are labs and people expect that from Labs. (Lincoln isn't ) Anyone going to tracking from out eastern suburbs way?

How Often Do You Bathe Your Dog?
RallyValley replied to chichihuahua's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wash my dogs when they roll in dead things, so maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Lincoln will only get a warm water rinse before shows if he looks a bit dirty, no shampoo. -
A Couple Of "household With Two Dogs" Questions ..
RallyValley replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
b.b do you want to borrow Toby for a weekend and have a trial ? The whole family (4 of us) have not yet gone away without taking the dogs. One person ususally stays to look after them. WIth our dogs if we have to go out we do, the boys are in the run outside and the old lady gets to stay in the house, if we had problems with the boys then we would have Toby inside with Lilly. I think more dogs = more time especially if you intend to get into dog sports and have to train both dogs in different things several times a day. -
Hey Valley, i missed this years classic, despite being entered, (dammit!) But i know the baby you are talking about and yes she is beautiful! Chessies are a bit more aloof than FCs is that right? ETA: thanks for that link Golden. Licking? YUK!!! I have a breed that never licks, ill have to train them out of that habit if i get one! Chessies are more aloof. They are just not interested in other dogs or other people, they just focus on you. This is what turned me off Flatties and Labs, they will dislocate your shoulder to say hi to anyone/thing. I personally prefer dogs more aloof.
-
whiptitgood I came VERY close to getting a Flat Coat but liked the longevity and temprament of Chessies better. However I adore Flatties and have met a few, so friendly (there was a baby puppy at the Western Classic I was tempted to steal). This is a great blog about a Flattie that competes in dog sports http://digit-fetchit-herdit.blogspot.com

Will Giz be there then? Amypie and Rubystar- Just got off the phone to instructor, will most likely be next Friday for measurments. Also Amypie I think you should still enter, put Kyzers approx height and a note that he is being measured ASAP. Dogs can jump up a class but not down one so if he is borderline I would overestimate. I think you will find they don't mind esp if he is entered as NFC.

I am taking my pup who will be 4 and a half months at the time.

Will have to find my mobile phone (I am always losing the damn thing) and give my instructor a call, if its not this Friday it will be the next one at agility training at Ashfield reserve in Bassendean. Will confirm time and which week as soon as I find phone.
