Can What A Dog Eats Help Repel Ticks
RallyValley replied to sheena's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It's just an observation. ;) I personally think that the ticks and the BH had no correlation. An attack would be saying 'because Toby was on BH he had ticks for the first time ever' -
Meh I have given calcium in the form of bones and goat's milk to puppies and they were fine. You sort of have to give bones on a raw diet. So are you saying don't give vit c cos it promotes calcium uptake? Natural calcium is fine, calcium supplements are bad. I should have made that more clear - don't give joint formulas containing calcium or calcium tablets. I give vitamin C because it helps promote calcium uptake from the dogs diet but does not alter the amount of calcium. It's especially good when pups are "knuckling over".

When Toby was on BH he had a whole bunch of ticks for the first time ever.... -
Fingers crossed for you and Bondi, it's awful when they get old.

One way to end training early, leave dog in car with treats.... come back to find them gone! Had some awesome work and focus from Zora tonight. Toby... ... well he has had a few weeks off..

Don't give a puppy anything with calcium! That will throw out the calcium:phosphorus ratio in his diet. Vitamin C promotes calcium uptake and Fish Oil should be fine.

Yes - but if a dog can't beat another dog at all, either in specialty shows or at group level and gets it's "grand" title by not beating anything.... how is this dog worthy of the "grand champion" title which suggests they should have beaten "champions" to earn that title. Without a 25pt qualifier, it is possible for a dog to win the Grand title without beating a thing. That dog would need to be awarded 167 times, which would mean it would have to be the solo dog of the breed at a show that many times and have the judge not refuse to award challenge... Of anyone wants it that badly they are welcomed to it IMO. At least some smaller clubs will have picked up entries...

Deb sees two dogs. If there is no problem there is no charge as a session is not needed. She really is too kind!

Retrieving & Field Training Talk
RallyValley replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Since the quail experience Zora had she has become very birdy, it's very cute (since she will still focus when training ;) ). She has finished teething too so we are working on Shirley Chongs retrieve with a dumbbell, after a week or so of working on it she is not playing keep off as much and will bring toys up to me now. Here is Zora at a local lake, there are soooooo many ducks there she is in heaven! She is a very good girl though, she does not try to chase them and will stand and often point Going to be a good place to test her woah training (when she has had some ) and to use as a very high level distraction. -
I am also stewarding obedience, then have to rush home and wash the puppy so that she is clean and blow-dried before I leave for work at 3. Then the next day I am showing Zora is sooooooooo fun to train! She loves doing training and learning. :D Plus she has so much confidence! Yesterday I was training with Toby and threw a dumbbell that rolled further then it should of and was past 'the zone' so he lost heart part way, I had another dumbbell so recalled him and trained with that one, when I let Zora out of the crate at the end of Toby's turn she ran off and fetched the dumbbell.

Mine is synced up with my ACWA membership renewal! It's a very expensive month... There are Thundershirts on free shipping on Clean Run... I am thinking about ordering one for Toby - you know there is a problem when you come to the realisation that you can't walk the dog on a public holiday because the school kids on scooters scare him too much He is ok with kids on bikes now though ;)

Mine is each October, don't think that is when I first joined. It's like $130 a year, single full member with prefix and levy.

At work so can't post a big reply but I don't think my Brittany would cope with being an outside dog, she loves being a part of the family. My Brittany lives on a 3 acre block with horses and cows nearby, but many people have them in suburbia too. Mine is only a puppy so I can't really comment on energy levels....

If your dog is titled in retrieving you are ineligible to compete in RAT. (Even QND title). Not right.... as far as I know any dogs titled in retrieving can still compete in these events. Not many do though. I would re check the RAT rules, it changed in 2010. I can't copy and paste from a PDF on my iPhone but QND is the "lowest" title and both novice snd open tests include that title in the list of reasons for being ineligable. Section 2.3 and 2.4.

I know Irish Setter owners that use one and it works well on the Brittany

No I have worked every Sunday between last November and mid September so I missed the retrieving training. I hope the retrieving community will get behind it, it's not for their dogs that are competing and doing well, it's to encourage new people, people who want to dip their toe in before a real trial and those with associate register but pure bred gun dogs (like Millie and others out there) can have a go!

If your dog is titled in retrieving you are ineligible to compete in RAT. (Even QND title). I didnt know that and none of them mentioned it, just said as there is no game and no guns they not keen It also CAN be run on game, but the club has to organise the game, whereas if it is run with dummies everyone provides their own.
