  1. Yes, but all the fruit is taken out at the same time so no doubt they smell it then, but don't make their move. It wouldn't smell until it's cut open, or the smell they like is the cutting open smell. I normally cut the rock melon in half and have both half in the fridge. I just cut off whatever I need from the half. I'll just put it down to them being remarkable examples of the breed, but then again, I am very biased.

  3. Every morning, I have a variety of fresh fruit with my breakfast, and my two mini schnauzers get one small piece of rock melon after I have cut all the fruit up. They don't make an appearance whilst I cut up the strawberries and kiwi fruit or anything else that needs peeling and cutting but as soon as I pick up the rock melon and peel and cut it up, there they are. The peeling and cutting of the other fruit sounds the same to me, but obviously not to them.
  4. I agree. Personally, I would never get two puppies together. We have always had several years in age between them and like you, it's worked beautifully. The older do teaches the puppy the tricks of the trade so to speak, not to mention when they age and the time comes, you are not left with no dog at home.
  5. My thoughts exactly. Not stated whether the apartment is to be bought or rented. Either way, the body corporate rules must be adhered to. If the apartment is to be rented, I doubt whether permission would be given for a large breed puppy. Unfortunately, some people get the wrong breed for the wrong situation and then the dog is the one who suffers through no fault of it's own. Selfish people.
  6. So your dogs bark but youre upset that someone else's dogs bark? I love it!!!!
  7. Cortisone is not the only remedy. it is a dangerous drug and should not be handed out freely by vets unless it is absolutely necessary. The blue ones are 20mg? If so, that is a huge dose and will cause major side effects over a short time. Google it. Go and see a canine dermatologist and find out the cause of the allergy. It's also pretty silly to give your dog meds based on talk back radio. If the OP is from Victoria, then the vet in question is probably the well known vet from Geelong. He always adocates Avil for allergies, so there must be something to it.
  8. I bought one for my mini schnauzer when he was desexed and it was far more comfortable for him than the Elizabethan collar. It didn't seem to bother him at all.
  9. Lol. My two get a frozen chicken foot as a snack around midday and they remind me if I'm a little late. I buy them from my chicken shop by the kilo. I also feed everything raw.
  10. I give mine two feeds a day now that they're past the puppy stage. The meaty bone part in the morning and the meat part in the evening. This includes the proteins in the form of different meats as in chicken, lamb, beef, fish plus egg, low fat cottage cheese, sardine or low fat plain yoghurt. Your puppy will of course need to be fed more than twice a day at this stage.
  11. When my latest mini schnauzer came to us at 8 weeks of age, by the time he was 9 weeks old he was eating chicken frames for one of his meals. Puppies can cope with these bones and before long, he was eating some of the harder bones. With the chicken necks, I would use a meat mallet and bash them a bit and then feed. I feel the enjoyable part of the meal is to actually 'get stuck into' the bones.
  12. Get in touch with East West Vets at South Road, Moorabbin. Anne Neville advocates natural feeding and she helped me with a mini schnauzer who had pancreatitus where my regular vet and another said he could only be fed commercial dog food and Anne Neville modified his raw to suit the condition. He lived a further 4 years without any more flare ups.
  13. Jed,what I saw were dogs that were circling, and I interpreted to dogs being confined in 'small' spaces for extended lengths of time. I saw in some cases, faeces on what looked like newspaper and it seemed to be not just an overnight use but again perhaps several days worth. I saw sadness in the faces on some of those dogs. My way of thinking is if you can't look after your charges, then cut down on the amount of dogs kept. You have to give them the best of everything, including of yourself. I may be wrong, but it really upset me looking at those faces. To me it looked like they were looking for some kind affection.
  14. I am wondering if this situation is indeed pay back. I have two mini schnauzers, Jasper who is almost 6 years old and Elliot who is 17 months old. They get along beautifully and would play most of the day. I had occasion to have my cousin's mini schnauzer here for 3 weeks while the family was away on holiday. Harry, my cousin's boy who is older than Jasper and Elliot seemed to pair up and like some kids, it seemed that three's a crowd. they virtually ignored Jasper even though it seemed that he at times wanted to join in. Now that Harry has been gone for 2 weeks now, Jasper doesn't seem to play with Elliot as in the past, even though Elliot tries to initiate play. Am I right in thinking this is pay back?
  15. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty ? At best Dogs Vic could suspend the membership pending the outcome. I think the video said a lot regarding the conditions the dogs were kept in.
  16. I buy them through Ausdog in Melbourne and the packaging states "all natural"
  17. the ones I buy in Melbourne and trust me, they have no smell.
  18. Just heard on Neil Mitchell, 3AW that the baby came inside to get an ice cream and the dog followed him.
  19. Maybe that's the reason in one of the reviews an owner said that her cat had internal bleeding. That's scary.
  20. Crisovar she definitely means Capstar, because I saw the package. I did google the product and came across some reviews which were negative.
  21. Normally I use Sentinal once every six weeks for my boys and I was talking to a friend who uses Capstar. It seems that this product actually kills the fleas. I read some reviews on the product and there were a lot of negatives as in some pets got quite sick and done owner has to have her cat put down because of internal bleeding. Has anyone on DOL used this product successfully? I am wondering, if it has so many side effects, why is it allowed on the shelves?
  22. My thoughts too. Hope she doesn't spend her days and nights like that.
  23. Yep, they reek. I feed them to my two and they don't have a smell.
