Woman Attacked By Pack Of Up To 15 Stray Dogs In Us
twodoggies2001 replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in In The News
Make a mental note. "I must think before I write" -
Yes, I agree, go and see a specialist. I had a dog treated with my vet for weeks for dry eye until she sent me to a specialist because the condition didn't improve. In the end, he lost his eye because of ulceration. Don't muck around. It's not worth it.

How Would You Feel About This Situation?
twodoggies2001 replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've seen the aftermath of a malamute after it killed a toy poodle belonging to a gorgeous elderly gentleman with no provocation whatsoever. This sweet old man was absolutely devastated to say the least. But the worst part was that the rotten piece of !!!!!! walked away with his dog and offered no assistance. On the other hand, another Malamute owner had the sweetest most gentle huge boy who loved the little dogs and was ever so gentle with them. -
Impounded Bull Breed Put Down Before Breed Assessment In Nsw
twodoggies2001 replied to BlackJaq's topic in In The News
As much as the couple looked after and loved their dog, they were still irresponsible. Bought the dog from obviously a back yard breeder, of uncertain parentage, not micro chipped, not registered, not confined to their back yard, what else? Again, it's not the dog's fault. She may be a beautiful natured animal but she was badly let down by her owners. The council in their wisdom did the wrong thing and really should have consulted with the owners before they put the dog down. When will people learn? -
I have learned to be a hard hearted Hannah lol. My two could eat all day if I let them. I have my cousin's dog here for about 4 weeks while his family are abroad and their dog is FAT. If I succeed, there will be a different dog waiting for them when they get home. I'm told by him that he doesn't get much to eat. You don't get fat on fresh air alone. I too will probably be accused of starving poor Harry but so be it lol. Just to ease everybody's mind, I have permission to feed Harry as I do my own boys. Can't wait to see his waistline again.

Advice Needed On Rottweiler And Little Dogs
twodoggies2001 replied to Cartersmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have two different sides to the story. I have miniature Schnauzers and the first boy we owned, his breeder told me that my boy's mother was best friends with a rottie that belonged to her showdog friend. He was also very gentle with the mini puppies. The other side of this tale. My cousin who also has a mini Schnauzer was walking his dog on lead when a tradesman working on a building site and had his Rottie running loose rushed and attacked the mini culminating in extensive vet care. This attack was unprovoked and my cousin didn't even see it coming. Two different dogs, two different owners. -
I couldn't agree with you more. These hoarders are as you say, mentally ill and need help. I have sympathy for both the hoarder, who is well meaning, but terribly misguided, and the poor animals under their supposed care.

Jumping Into Raw - Advice Needed!
twodoggies2001 replied to Lexi-Taj's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
When you eat do you separate your food groups by digestion rates? No, because I am a true omnivore. The enzymes and acid in my stomach have evolved to process meat and vegies at similar times. Apart from corn that is  The theory is that raw food digests very fast, but kibble is very slow, there is one school of thought that says the raw will stay too long in the system when combined with the kibble so this can cause the meat to begin fermentation. There are many that follow this rationale. There are also those that don't believe it makes any difference. Regarding the bones think of them as a slow release vitamin, the calcium and other minerals are released over a period of time. If you are feeding vegies they should be steamed and or pureed as dogs don't have the same enzymes we omnivores have, dogs highly acidic guts wont process them like we do. Without this the vegies act more as a filler and roughage. Vegies are part of the BARF model but I am more PREY model so don't take my word for it. I personally don't believe that mixed is going to be better, if you are really worried about making sure you are not depriving the dog of some essential elements, buy a supplement to go with the raw food you can get your dog to eat. Most raw advocates will say that taking the supplements is more for the owners peace of mind rather than a requirement for the dog (assuming you can roughly follow the organ ratios) For the veggies, I neither steam or puree. All that needs to be done when fed raw is grated to break them up for the dogs to get the benefit rather than the veggies acting as a filler. I have also heard that raw meat and kibble digest at different rates. Some will advocate that this is untrue, and frankly, I wouldn't know because I have chosen not to feed kibble. -
Jumping Into Raw - Advice Needed!

As I pointed out in another thread today, I just transitioned my baby puppy onto raw within a couple of days excluding the dry food. I would go slowly with the variety of cuts you are giving, but I would add a very small amount of offal so the pup gets a taste for it. Good luck Thank you :) hopefully she will take to the offal unlike her big brother :) if she doesn't is there any harm is feeding a kettle dry to make sure she doesn't miss out on anything vital? Pardon my ignorence, but what is kettle dry? auto-correct for "little" ;) If you have any puppy dry in the house, I would use it up, just adding a little. Your raw diet for your older dog looks good to me. -

Puppy Growth Raw Vs Commercial
twodoggies2001 replied to Dory the Doted One's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Each of the puppies I brought into the family have been transitioned over to raw, regardless what they were fed b the breeder. As you have noted, raw fed puppies do grow at a slower pace, but at the same time, they grow more evenly and yes, I have noticed that they are much slimmer than their commercially fed siblings. And the best thing of all, they relish their breakfast and dinner. The output is less copious and less smelly too. Personally, I would never go back to commercial diets ever again since I learnt the raw way of feeding, but that's up to the individual owners. -
yes that is odd. How much easier would it be to just text an address, rather than physically place a little ribbon. Yep, I just can't fathom that people committing an illegal act (stealing a dog) to do another illegal act (dogfighting), would risk being seen/noticed in such a way (TWICE - once putting the ribbons on, and then a second time trawling through the streets finding them)........ when they could just text an address. I mean in this case if it actually was to steal the dogs they've now been foiled - the owner has noticed and will presumably be keeping the dogs inside or something like that. So they lose the dogs. It just makes no sense, and I haven't seen any evidence other than people getting upset on facebook that such marks are anything to do with dog thefts or dog fighting. Perhaps the ribbon is for another party to identify the address. It is possible that the ribbon 'installer' is out and about scouting. Yes but why not just wander around scouting, note down the addresses that have the dogs you want and text those addresses through to the other party? Why hang around in the street suspiciously on two separate occasions if you don't need to? Especially if you're involved in dogfighting which has big repercussions. I guess you'll have to ask the person in question.

Can Same Gender Get A Long Or Need Each Gender?
twodoggies2001 replied to ChewieTAG's topic in Puppy Chat
That's true about bitches being just called that. One of my previous boy's breeder had no end of problems when the sister of my boy turned on the mother as she was getting on in age. From then on, she had to keep them separated at all times. I feel that would be hard to live with, always making sure the dogs were kept separate. Makes for tense times. -
Can Same Gender Get A Long Or Need Each Gender?
twodoggies2001 replied to ChewieTAG's topic in Puppy Chat
Our family has always had two males together without any problems. They have always been neutered. In all the years we have had dogs we have never had females, because males have always been our preference. -
Thanks for all the suggestions which have been taken on board. I think it's just pure laziness on his part. He is now 15 months old and took to the doggie door coming in very quickly, but for some reason would not use it to go out and no amount of coaxing worked. Then, one day when I gave them both a bone, and he wasn't ready to enjoy it, he hid it in the back garden, but when he saw his big 'brother' heading in the general direction of his prize, he bolted OUT of said doggie door, proving indeed that he can do it lol. The strange thing is that he poos only when we are home, not when we are out. I hasten to add I never make a fuss when I discover the deposit. I just clean it up without a word. I sprayed vinegar on the rug yesterday and maybe that and just being very vigilent with stop him using the rug. He is usually quick learner with other things and doesn't pee indoors.
-
Does anyone have any ideas what I can put on a wool floor rug to stop my young boy from pooing on it. Thank goodness they are well formed and easy to pick up, but every now and then he goes on it. He has access to a doggie door but chooses to dump his load inside. The strange thing is that he doesn't wee indoors.

Just watching the video clip showing the young woman tells us the type of people the owners are. These dogs were lethal weapons in their hands. Unregistered, had warnings regarding the dogs and it still didn't make a difference and most likely it won't in the future. Even though these these dogs have lost their right to exist, it probably wasn't entirely their fault that this tragedy happened. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, it's the owners that need to be licenced, not the animal in question.
-
Doesn't matter what breed they are. They are dangerous dogs and should be dealt with accordingly,as should the owner. Well tell all the people who's dogs have been seized and killed for nothing more than looking a certain way that. It DOES matter, for all pit bulls and their owners. Also I never said they should be dealt with. Huh. You never said they should be dealt with? I don't, in all honesty feel it matters what breed was involved. These dogs should be dealt with accordingly. I do sympathize with with the fact that innocent dogs are being taken away from their loving owners merely because they look like a pit bull type, but it can be said that this has come about by owners who couldn't give a continental what their dogs get up to, and so the it seems most pit bull types are tarred with the same brush.
-
Doesn't matter what breed they are. They are dangerous dogs and should be dealt with accordingly,as should the owner. No one's disputing that, but in the bigger picture it matters a lot that the media are calling them the wrong breed. Yes, I agree with your point, but, there are a lot of people out there who are ignorant, through no fault of their own who are not familiar with dog breeds or dog behavior. These people see a dog and label it a Pit Bull. My mini schnauzers are often labelled Scotties or Westies.

I brought my mini schnauzer home last year at 8 weeks old. He had never been in a crate and the first night he slept in it the first night without any fuss. He didn't wake to go out to toilet from around 11pm to 7 am next morning. I couldn't believe my luck.
