  1. My old Bull Terrier, Jessie's best mate Holly, the Boxer (now both at the "Bridge") used to swim with the dolphins at our local beach most days. It was amazing to watch. Somehow Holly always knew when they were out there
  2. I buy it from Value Vet Just noticed they've put their price up by about $10 to $81.62 + post I still think they'd probably be the cheapest :D
  3. Pele loves it and Jessie before her (Bull Terriers). It's the only way I can get Pele, who just doesn't do mornings out of bed in the morning to go to the beach Sad I know ;)
  4. Dogs are like people, some are outgoing social butterflies and others prefer their own company. As long as Nelson isn't fearful of other dogs and accepts their company I wouldn't worry that he doesn't want to run and play with every dog that he sees. Pele, my 5 year old Bull Terrier gets on with all dogs - we attend obedience, used to show, go to the beach and park every day and go to DOL BBQ's but she's not a play with other dog dog, she'd rather hang out with me and that's fine with me
  5. Run a mile eek: Sounds more like a puppy punch up, not a pre-school IMO doesn't sound very well run and you are doing more damage by taking Nelson. Yes, Nelson needs to meet lots of other dogs, people and have lots of other experiences, but NOT in a threatening manner. As for Science Diet, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I feed a raw diet and don't feed grains, so couldn't advise on which commercial diet is best.
  6. I now a breeder who also had it laid & had 2 litters with massive health issues . There was an article in the paper regarding false lawn & making sure you research & pick carefully especially where it was made I'm a bit leery about it too and toxins :D I'd rather steer clear of it no matter how good it looks.
  7. I did suggest that they bag it and sell it as a fund raiser on our first night at training years ago Oops, think it went down like a lead balloon Yep, distractions are great when they know the exercise 'cos it could happen in a trial
  8. Dunno, but holding the next DOL BBQ at Budd's place surrounded by all the wineries sounds great
  9. People who don't know us often steer clear if we are training because Pele is a Bull Terrier
  10. So glad to hear that Tahli is ok and should grow out of it with a good diet I buy Joint Guard thru Value Vet Products and find them about the cheapest. I bought some last week and it was $64.46 + postage. Give Tahli a from us. She sounds like a lucky girl to have found you
  11. Aaawww Hope Dory is feeling better soon.
  12. OMG Heather, so sorry to hear about Ruger Pele and I are entered in a trial at the Rotti club tomorrow, but by the sounds of the weather, doubt we'll go.
  13. I've got "The Intelligence of Dogs" and he rates the Bull Terrier as 90/100 for intelligence. Bit of a worry when both Pele and Jessie before her often outsmarted me
  14. I haven't bought anything from Wag School Books, but appears to be an excellent site. I've bought a lot through Fish Pond and they are very good. Dogwise is great, but the overseas postage can be a killer
  15. When Pele broke her foot when she was 9 months old she was sent home with Rimadyl (just the bottle, no leaflets, warnings etc ). Luckily I was well informed about the drug and refused to use it. I used homeopathic arnica.
  16. Hi Haylz27-- I train with Positive Reinforcement. 17. Years ago I took Jessie (now at the "Bridge") to the beach in the afternoon. I was sitting on the beach with a pile of stones throwing them into the water for Jessie. A guy and his Kelpie arrive and guy plonks his stuff down not far up the beach from me. Meanwhile Kelpie is having a crap. Guy is watching, but doesn't attempt to pick it up. I would have out to him, but he was a bit too far away to probably be heard. Guy and Kelpie jog off up the beach ;) I told Jessie to "stay", marched up the beach, bagged the offending poo and was going to place it beside the guy's sports bag, but the "Devil" made me put it inside his bag :D I sprinted back to Jessie and we both high-tailed it out of there I wish that I could have seen the look on his face when he opened his bag
  18. ;) Amazing what a handful of treats can do Teach them a few tricks and add that the the routine and amaze your guests
  19. When Pele was a pup I'd take her up to the local kindergarten and sit on the seat outside and watch the kids running around screaming When it's home time most kids and parents can't resist a cute puppy Also gives you the chance to talk to the kids and parents and educate them about approaching strange dogs etc.
  20. OMG Cassie!!!! Hope Hudson is OK. Glad your ex acted quickly Big to you both. Hope the Big Boy is home soon :D
  21. Of course socialisation is very important but the 2 most important commands IMO are 1. Recall. It may save their life one day. With a reliable recall they get much more freedom. 2. Watch. I taught Pele this from day one at 8 weeks. When I ask her to "Watch" she'll look away from almost any distraction 99% of the time and focus on me. If they are watching you have their undivided attention. Any other commands are a piece of cake to teach then
  22. So glad that Ching Ching's surgery went well. Give her a big from us, she's such a darling
  23. Love the pic of Pele with her head stuck in the red bag She's such a nosy little bully and such a klutz
