  1. What kind of training methods does Dover use? Are the grounds they train on fenced?
  2. I'm moving much closer to the city in the next week or so. We'll be around the Plmypton/ Camden Park/ Genelg general area. I'm happy to travel for a good club. Any suggestions?
  3. You could direct him to this website, there is a lot of info in here :) From my personal experience our first husky was from a dodgy backyard breeder (byb) She cost half the price of a registered dog. BUT she came to us too young. And we also had some issues from the get go such as inhaling her food with such haste that I had to physically remove objects from her thrat to prevent her from dying. My thoughts is that there was a lot of competition for food between her siblings, so she had to eat quick or starve. Also no microchip (additional costs I had to wear) Who knows if the pups were proberly vaccinated, you hear all kinds of stories where the breeder may only get 2 pups vaccinated (1 male 1 female) and then just photocopy the vaccination certificates to save cash. Yes Esky cost more, but she was worth it. Vaccinations, wormed at the correct times, a researched and planned litter to minimise potential problems. Heck she was even desexed before I took her home. No extra cost for me there. (Although many breeders don't agree with early desexing) It pays off in the long run
  4. Oh my bad- I always thought it was a gsd. Bad sibe owner
  5. So cool. :) I do wonder about the food bill too
  6. Hey GSJ welcome to DOL :) Glad you came here before getting your puppy. A quick heads up, you cannot post links to the trading post etc on this forum ;) (just before someone gets you into trouble) Please don't buy this puppy. Considering the breeder can't spell the breed name and doesn't know that the golden colour in labradors is called 'yellow' not gold. I don't think they look very pure. The mums head is a bit strange. Plus you can never be sure on what a dog really is unless he comes with Pedigree papers ( Have a look on the DOL puppy listings and find yourself a good breeder. Being a very common breed you shouldn't have any problems getting one from a good breeder. A good breeder will help pick the right puppy for you and will be able to give advice when you have puppy problems. Also they will test their dogs and not breed from dogs with hereditary diseases. and you will know the pup is pure. It's a one off investment for ongoing support and a healthy happy puppy.
  7. They can't be serious! Imagine running into one of those on our roads!
  8. Wasn't scout a character from to kill a mocking bird? I always get confused when people have female dogs called scout though. Makes me think of the boy scouts
  9. What Huski said. A frozen neck or large frozen turkey drumstick keeps Esky much busier!
  10. Some dogs get really excited when you do the 'ouch' and pull away. It used to get Esky more reved up and she would try and continue playing this game. The puppy school we went to suggested putting something yukky tasting (ie Vicks vapour rub) on your hands so that biting became unpleasant. Of course everyone has their different ways of dealing with this so what helped us might not be your cup of tea. It's a lot nicer once they are out of this stage
  11. Esky's outside during the day if I'm out. Although this week it's been so stinking hot that when I've gone out she's slept under the fan. The old house she was inside all day until I was home- I wasn't 100% comfortable with that yard so safer that way.
  12. Thanks ETH, had a look, funny looking things, but I've saved that link as an option! They are very functional though Here's a better visual. dog booties and harness by 9114, on Flickr
  13. Dogbooties have a little velco strap which keeps them on. They stand up to racing sled dogs so they should last you a while and they don't come off. http://www.dogbooties.com/dogbooties.html I've got the 1000 denier for Esky- but that's for running on hard surfaces. Have a read through this page and see if they suit. I highly reccomend them Whoops. I did my reading and it's pretty obvious the best one for your situation is this http://www.dogbooties.com/products/toug90boot.html
  14. Well if you had a rare breed wouldn't you want to protect it from any person who just wanted to breed. I think it's fair enough, especially with all the money and time that goes into importing new lines, etc. I'd want to have a good relationship with my brood bitches breeder anyway. doG knows I'm going to be needing their help :)
  15. I got a husky because .. uh I'd always wanted one. Since getting a husky our next breed has been chosen for it's ability to work in harness without being too husky like. Sadly the boyfriend doesn't share my love of huskies.
  16. Oh but I want to get about town on one of these http://www.rjwalsh.com.au/mini/products.htm Le sigh
  17. Well the puppy is going to have to get used to being alone at some point. Start as you mean to continue :) Puppies sleep a lot anyway, with a few toys I'm sure the hours will pass very quickly for Dwilds pup
  18. I would be interested to know the answer to whippet mum's question too :p
  19. Well I guess in your situation I'd be meeting as many of each breed as I could and seeing which one clicked. :)
  20. I tend to use multipurpose paths which never have people on them. Certain deserted reserves are good for our sledding practice. I know it's illegal to ride on roads and living on a main street I don't risk it. I'll go somewhere safer/ less visible :D
  21. Well there is nooo way I would rehome a problem dog. I'm not sure what I would do in that situation, hopefully to never let it get that bad. Sounds like a crappy situation.
