I haven't been in here for a few days, what a load of gas bags you've been  Uber cute puppies Ptolomy - so fast what are you feeding them, coffee? Poor Gibbs MG, hope he's ok now and hope Kenz is recovering well still Ness :) CareyJ - can't wait to see pics of your puppy - very exciting :D I know I'm going to regret asking this, but what time does the retrieving start at yours on sunday mirawee and how long is it likely to go on for? I chickened out at the MPW and lost my photo mojo, so could do with a trip out to find it again :)

Love the first shot :D At first I was looking for more focus in the second one, particularly on the lead dogs head, but the more I look at it the more I like it too, great sense of movement

Ok, So, What Do You See As Your S T R E N G T H S......

Congrats Huga and good luck for this weekend :D I think I'm not too bad at bugs, jumping spiders in particular :) -
Awwwww she is just adorable! Love the second one, she looks right at home already
-
Great first shot! Love the energy captured. I also like the b&w conversion, but agree with cropping the guy on the right. Really like this one :D The second one needs a bit more 'life', but good separation of the main focus from the crowd :)

Just stunning Kristin! Such beautiful colours, they put the UK echinoderms I'm used to to shame
-
Thanks kja and huga :) It's prompted me to dig a bit more into focus points and I found this article very informative. It's about birds in flight, but I figured it probably applies equally to crazy dogs running around fast on beaches right? http://www.garyluhm.net/bio/tips_0310.html

Wow what a trip to remember! Love the photos, particularly the giraffe and bird, and the lioness and cubs :) Look forward to more :D
-
Gorgeous shots, just love looking at these two as they always have the best expressions :D Love the first one
-
Thanks so much for all the feedback It's good to hear the different opinions re the tones, obviously very much a personal thing as to whether it appeals or not :) I kicked myself for that  and on the subject of that, I had my focus on just the single center point and in AI Servo mode, would you go for a wider range of focus points? I was concerned about it focusing on the wrong dog/person on the beach..... Kirislin, great framing with the bike :) but I have to say I prefer the original - something just doesn't look quite right about the hdr ones to me.

Quick reply as I am at work ;) Thanks for all the comments so far guys, much appreciated :D I'll respond in detail when I get home tonight.

Gorgeous little critters :D Interesting change in head shape as they get older :)

Ok, we talked about this in another thread, so to blatantly nab the tag line from another forum..... :D By posting your photos here you are specifically requesting comments, advice and critique of value and merits of both photos and the photographer. So if you want some critique on your photos, or want practice of critiquing other shots - something I certainly don't feel qualified to do yet, but would like to try - then get posting in here :D I'll get things rolling :) I tend to lack a bit of confidence in my post production, so some advice would be most welcome. Here is the original, just exported as a jpeg from Lightroom, where I do all my editing. First edit as posted in my 'new lens' thread. After a bit more tweaking. Let it fly

Ah yes, good point Pers - I'd forgotten that!

How about Picasa? I don't think you have to actually sign up to google+ to just use it, at least you didn't the last time I used it a couple of years ago :) http://support.google.com/picasa/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=93773

That looks like such a stunning place, what scenery! Thanks for the photos KA :D

Wow, beautiful crab! :D

I liked how this one turned out :) I was testing the teleconverter in my garden and noticed this bug on the aloe plant. 400mm f6.3 1/1600 - just up'd the exposure and sharpened slightly in LR, colours as shot :)
-
MnDM, I think I'm correct, but I believe you loose auto focus if the converter takes your max apature higher than f5.6. Check on POTN as there is a lot of info on there :) It's Leighton Beach, just south of Cottesloe in Perth :)
-
Awwww those are so cute muttrus :D
-
Thank you everyone :D lol, that's what my OH said, along with 'they're not our dogs' I'm going to go back and have another try at them, it was a preset in Lightroom with my own tweeks on top. I like them, but not 100% sure :) I found it heavy  I can feel round my neck and shoulders that I was carrying something substantial around for a while! I think I'll get a monopod. I'm going to try to do some tests with it today, I didn't get as many keepers yesterday as I would have hoped - but birds plus the teleconverter, and fast moving dogs at the bright beach weren't the easiest of subjects  I'll see if my cat will pose for me today and do some sharpness tests. The duck was at full zoom plus the 2x and I was pleasantly surprised with the sharpness when zoomed in Lightroom. I'm never really sure what 100% means, is that the 1:1 zoom in Lightroom?

Thanks Pers :) Love the 2 new shots, they look so quizzical :D
-
Awww why so sad? Love the flat worm, very cool to see one of those :) Still loving all the updates :D
-
Priceless expressions! Gorgeous update photos FM :D How old are they now?
-
And some wildlife with a 2x teleconverter on it - I know it's a gamble using the converter, but I'll use it for now until i save my pennies for a 'proper' wildlife lens :) The obligatry duck  Not too bad for 400mm. And I'm glad I had a 400mm reach on for this one - he was a few feet away from the path, so I moved well away and took a few shots. Saw 3 of these today round the lake!
