  1. Exactly ^. I feel so sorry for that poor old dog. She's not even interested enough to listen to or care about the vet's diagnosis so I doubt these people will provide proper treatment for Velvel. I hate to think what he'll go through before his time comes to cross the bridge. I hope this woman never ever gets another dog, she doesn't deserve to own any animal let alone a dog whose whole life revolves around interaction with its owner. I don't get it. How can you love a dog and then just stop loving it because you have a child?
  2. Promising update DDD :) I've been thinking of you and Danny and wondering how you were going. It's good to hear Danny's appetite has improved and I hope the eye is doing what it should be doing. It's onwards and upwards now.
  3. I bought the Healthy Mouth product and the dogs won't touch the bright green water. Because one of my dogs is on the diuretic Frusemide, amongst other meds for congestive heart failure, he needs to drink plenty of water so waiting it out is not a safe option for us. Be warned, this product is insanely expensive, with postage it cost $82 for a 250ml bottle. Healthy Mouth turns the water a very bright green and with great suspicion both dogs backed away from it. In my effort to encourage them to drink I had to dilute the product to the point where it would be ineffective. Bright green must be one of the colours dogs can readily identify and they know water is not supposed to be this colour. Until the manufacturer finds a way to dilute the bright green colour of the water I won't buy Healthy Mouth again. I'll go with the paw paw option in future.
  4. What did he say about the fleas? Ahh! Souff, it's good to see you posting after a long absence. Still laughing here.
  5. Encouraging update DDD. Hopefully after Danny's eye is fixed he'll feel a lot better in general and hopefully regain at least some of his appetite. You're doing a great job with him. He's a lucky boy to have you.
  6. The LDH needs a complete change of management. It should have happened years ago. As long as current management is running the LDH nothing is likely to change. What we'll see will be all smoke and mirrors. I remember when CPR were saving all those small dogs and when it was suddenly brought to a halt for no reason other than "because I can".
  7. Sorry perse. I was firing away and thought I should edit my reply before I hit submit but I hit enter and it posted. I really think Chewie needs hands on vet attention for Lexie if indeed she was thinking about using Mcdowell or All Natural Vet Care exclusively. I took it that her question was 'either or' and there is no reason at all why she can't utilise both options.
  8. I would definitely go with All Natural Vet Care. That way you will have qualified vets to provide whatever treatment is best for Lexie. With McDowells, they will provide you with a bottle or two of their herbal supplements and advise you to administer 20 drops per day to your dog. There is no follow up and no veterinary care. They will of course ask you questions about Lexie's condition prior to supplying you with their herbal supplements. Robert McDowell is no longer at the helm of the company so things are a little different there now. You really do need hands on qualified veterinary surgeons to monitor and treat your dog and chances are All Natural Vet Care vets will be quite happy for you to give McDowell mixtures to your dog providing they are not contraindicated with any other treatment Lexie is having. **edited: because I pressed submit before I completed my post plus I needed to clarify.
  9. DDD, sorry to hear Danny is still having problems with his appetite. You're very patient and doing everything you can to get him well. I can only imagine how desolate and frustrated you must feel when he refuses to eat. He is a very lucky boy to have you caring for him. About the eye ulcer. I think a specialist is the way to go. My rescue Rottie developed an eye ulcer and my vet fiddled around with it for 10 days, even putting her under a GA to debride the cornea, all to no avail. One trip to the eye specialist and the job was done. He debrided the cornea and my girl wore a contact lense to protect the eye until check up. Upon checkup 8 days later the eye had healed and she had no further problems. The unsuccessful fiddling around by our usual vet cost a lot more than the eye specialist did.
  10. Unfortunately it's the nature of insurance policies to increase each year whether or not we make a claim. I copped an increase of over 98% for my two dogs in 2012-13 and cost of their policies continues to attract a huge increase each year. I've had a claim for one of my dogs in that period of time but no claims for the other dog.
  11. Have been thinking of you and anxiously awaiting an update from you DDD. I hope all is well with the dogs and that you are ok.
  12. Dogmad, I'm not sure how ultrasound would pick up the nerves in the spine and they're the nerves that can be responsible for incontinence. I think I'd be having a myelogram done on the dog. It's way less expensive than an MRI and would give an accurate picture of any damage to or misalignment of the vertebrae that would impinge on the nerves that cause incontinence. I figure if spinal nerves are the issue then then must be some spinal damage there. If the dog has had an MRI or Myelogram and the diagnosis is definitely due to spinal damage I doubt there's much chance of treating the incontinence unless the spinal issue is dealt with. It would be worth trying acupuncture but I don't know what the success rate would be if the spinal issue is untreatable.
  13. I hope you took your dog to the vet to be thoroughly checked after she was bitten by this dog. Present the bill to the attacking dog's owner. That they didn't even offer you an apology says a lot about them. You should not feel bad about walking at a slow pace. You are not at fault in any way. We should be able to walk at whatever pace we choose with our dogs without being attacked by escaping dogs. I hope you took the very sound advice offered by OSoSwift. The attacking dog needs to be reported, you might save other people and their dogs from experiencing such a frightening attack if this dog gets loose again.
  14. Oh look at that kissable face. She's gorgeous Kirty. How old is she?
  15. I used have that but it was human
  16. DDD. How did Danny go with his food today. Did he eat and was he able to keep the food down?
  17. You might want to post the general area you're interested in. Melbourne is a big place.
  18. I don't blame him for pulling back at the vets, he's had injections that sting like crazy for the last four days. Hopefully these have now dealt with his nausea and you'll be able to treat him with anti nausea tablets such as Maxalon in future. That he kept his food and meds down yesterday is a good sign. I hope he's turned the corner and everything will stay down today. Constant nausea is truly awful. I've been there. When my Rottie was taking meds for her cancer she was prescribed a hefty dose of Maxalon. It seemed to counteract the nausea because her appetite was good. Of course all meds can have side effects but she did ok with Maxalon. Hopefully when Danny wakes up you'll be able to tempt him to eat something and it will stay down. Take care of yourself too. Eat healthy foods so your energy level stays good. You need to be in top shape right now to cope with Danny's issues. Please keep us posted. Fingers crossed that Danny keeps everything down today.
  19. What a distressing experience for you DDD. As if you're emotions are not already stretched to capacity. I'm glad you told the vet nurse to let go her hold of Danny. There was no reason for her to manhandle him like that after you told the vet Danny was ok with the previous injections. It's good you had the chance to speak to the owner of the practice about this treatment of Danny and I trust this particular vet will not be called on to treat Danny in future. The vet nurse was probably acting under her instruction. Our dogs are so forgiving so Danny has already forgotten about it. Take a few deep breaths and carry on with your usual tender, patient care of Danny. Did he keep his dinner down last night? Has he kept his food down so far today? He's a lucky boy he has you to take care of him.
  20. When I first joined Bow Wow Meow about six years ago they were difficult with reimbursing claims but now I have no complaints at all. The last claim I filed with them was reimbursed within five days. They are very efficient now but their premiums are expensive. efs
  21. Sail Away. Thanks so much for your research. This is very informative and helpful.
  22. I think she may have spay incontinence...presuming she is spayed. This often happens to our girls as they get older. If this is the problem there is medication to treat it effectively. I think if it was an infection there would be signs of this during the day, not just at night. If there is any sign of a problem during the day she may have a urinary tract infection. The licking of the vulva (the vagina is internal) would be because she's cleaning herself.
  23. I seriously doubt you'd be charged a consult fee. My vet wouldn't charge it and yours shouldn't either. I think you keep going because you are so dedicated DDD, Bless. I hope you're taking care of yourself as well.
