  1. The areas concerned are Exhibition area 3 (small area between large fenced area and earthdogs) and 5 (large fenced area) which are closed because the the huge cracks have been complained about and the areas are now considered unsafe until there is sufficient rain to moisten the clay These areas are used for herding, lure coursing and as an off leash area at other times The other area out of commission is 2, the small floodlit area, which has been drained and renovated and should be available in 10 weeks once grass has established. This will be a first class all-season area and well worth the expense involved There is a map of KCC Park on the DV website in About Us, State Dog Centre
  2. I recently had a quick trip to vets after we had an "incident" in the back yard, bitch was spot on, dog had done the deed but had no sperm. Vet said implanted dogs are known to mate. Dead loss to me, I need a disinterested dog, in future I will just keep them apart with no chemical interference, waste of time and money and playing with my dogs' health.
  3. If your dog has not quite mastered the CCD skills, come anyway and meet some helpful people who can point you to further training BTW, new floodlights were tried out on front area at Park last night, great!!!
  4. Were the puppies eating out of separate bowls away from ecah other for some time before they left? Eating is a social thing, it is for people too!!
  5. Curash powder does well, similar thing, very fine drying powder, last thing needed is anything moist
  6. Has any info come out re which breeds are on when?
  7. Hi Dragonwoman, thank you for posting, It is a major failing of mine, that I dawdle when walking... I try to walk briskly, sometimes I manage, often I trip over my feet lol.. trying to think of what foot should be where for good footwork... it can be funny when I end up tripping over milo... There is nothing I can do about my voice, I'm lucky to have any. I've had several lots of throat surgery. I try my best, but it's hard to "carry" emotion in my voice, and quite painfull. my instructor and I are working on my body language being more expressive? for milo, to make up for lack of vocal expression. He's generally good at heeling (except for left turns.) we have a game we play, where I run around and he tries to stay in heel... he gets quite excited at it. Today at training we discussed milo's slow responses, and the feeling is that he should improve with time. but will never be a "fast sitter" Sorry about your voice, as you say you are lucky to have one. But...............I bet your dog picks up your mood just the same, because you are "his" and he knows every little thing about you!! Best way to get your footwork right is to practice without your dog until you are sure and confident and not thinking about what is what when he is by your side. That done, you can then concentrate on him and he will work better if you seem self-assured. If you are doubtful, he might think he is causing it, I reckon his positions will improve no end. Dogs always work better when the human is in charge of the ship lol With left turns do you have a different word? Mine is "back" which is actually a position they learn, it is not "heel", but slightly back so you can turn, his head by your knee, not his shoulder? There is some footwork and body language which goes with it, watch a good handler and see how they do it
  8. My immediate reaction is you are not moving briskly with purpose. Dogs like to "join in". If you are tentative they will not be inspired. Tone of voice is flat too. You have to pretend work is the best thing ever. One thing you always have with you (apart from your body language) and can use is your voice tone, you can let your dog know it is on the right track through a heeling pattern. I don't mean squealing around the ring either, but women are great when it comes to using good voice tone. And if a wheel falls off, it is only points off, deep breath, start again as if nothing has happened and you can still pass and end up with a happy dog. And if your heel command has become a switch off with bad connotations, change it!! Good luck, he is a lovely dog!!
  9. Desexing is not a miracle cure, much of the behaviour is in the brain, that is the bit you train!!!
  10. Dancinbcs, I'm surprised to hear that even Merle well bred BCs shoul have a fully pigmented nose by 6 weeks. I know Aussie Sheps are a different breed, but given that their colour genetics are so similar I'm surprised because the Aussie standard allows up to 12 months for "final" pigmentation. I'm not doubting you, just saying I'm surprised, and wondering why it's so different. I was talking about solids. No one mentioned anything about merles and the number of what I call well bred merles is very, very few. I could almost count the actual dogs on one hand and have only ever seen 3 in the showring here. Most merles come from coloured puppy farmers who breed only for colour, not quality. Regardless of the fact that a lot of merles do lack pigment the breed standard still says "The nose colour in all dogs will be a solid colour with no pink or light pigment, and shall complement the background colour of the dog." Agree. Merle has fast become a fad "colour" in BC's and with any of the fads people are being ripped off accordingly. There are some very questionable breeders breeding the merle to any thing without taking into consideration the breed standard at minimum. In some cases I have seen near all pink noses with very little pigmentation at all even up to an adult. I have also seen an increasing amount of excess white being produced and in some cases, all white heads and excess body white. In a couple of cases, deaf puppies being produced. I would personally stay clear of any breeder breeding merle to red/white. I know of one case of a merle to merle litter being bred from genetic merle parents and producing deaf puppies. Hear, Hear!! Incomplete pigmentation is highly undesirable in a working dog, especially in a climate such as ours. A breed standard does not just describe pretty show dogs, it describes a functional breed of dog, fit for the purpose it was developed for. Many "breeders" would not know a standard it they fell over it!! Merle to red and white is very risky
  11. In our case we had x ray, vet numbered six with possible seventh spine, gave me CD, I studied it at home and was sure I could find eight - and eight it was!!
  12. Once knew a Bearded Collie who lost all her beard and a lot of skin from one side of her face when a koala climbed up outside the mesh of her run and the dog took it on.
  13. I am told liver water is amazing at picking up tiny puppies strength?
  14. Thrilled for you Owey and your family.. So glad you stayed with a BC, but be warned, they are like choccolates, hard to stop at one!!
  15. This isn't an ANKC recognized breed so the process isn't the same. What breed are we talking about. Unless you've got reasonable numbers you might be better off with a number of breeds or a group club Any group of people with a common interest can start a club, contact your relevant state body, in Victoria I think it is Dept of Justice still whch incorporates clubs and has all info on their website Australian Bulldog Society is a good example of a common interest group and they are nothing to do with ANKC because the breed is not recognised (assuming it is for owners of dogs which are called "Australian Bulldogs", not a club in Australia for British Bulldog owners!!)
  16. Registration is same Australia wide, on nationla register, just some states were a bit slow coming on board LOL Associates must be desexed, Sporting Register not, but must be registered with an "approved body' (see ANKC Herding regs area)
  17. List at back of 2012 catalogue says "new judging format - no runner-up................" against 1999 names BIS that year was Liebendane great Dane. So 1999 it is
  18. We saw 2 on first U/S, she whelped 8!!
  19. Do you mean this one ?. 3.4.3.10 Show Passes A dog exhibitor who has already paid an entry fee or fees to the dog section of a show shall not be required to pay a gate admission into the fixture. Exhibitors will be supplied with passes on the following scale: one pass for one or two exhibits; two passes for three or four exhibits; three passes for five or six exhibits; four passes for seven or more exhibits. 3.4.3.11 Vehicle Admission Where facilities allow for admission of vehicles to the exhibition ground, a ground usage fee may be charged. The fee must be payable with entries, and must not exceed the fee payable at KCC Park. This "ground usage fee' is the levy which is $3.50 per dog at KCC Park and Bulla, $2.50 elsewhere
  20. Have just had a call from a distraught BC owner in Qld, did not ask where, she was vey upset. Her 5 year old entire male BC bit her husband this morning when he reprimanded it for barking. They have a 4 month old baby. Vet has said to euthanase dog. This may or may not be the answer but, as we discussed, they may always regret a hasty decision even if they take that option eventually The dog has virtually been their only child until the baby came along which may be at the bottom of the issue Can someone in Qld recommend a suitably qualified and experienced person who can assess their dog and help his owners find the right answer, please? For many years I handled calls for one of our largest obedience clubs, I know how people need to talk things like this through with someone who understands, it is always easier to make a hard call if someone else has helped Hoping you can help, please
  21. Breed clubs and individuals from breeds without clubs were asked to submit their ideas. Not all did. There is provision for changing ages, quite easy, and some breeds already have
  22. Not sure there is one (there should be!!) just a maximum number of litters
  23. Think 7 maybe 8, hard to tell on that sized image We recently had vet number 6, but there seemed to be 6 skulls and 7 spines, ended up with 8!!!
