  1. I have post previously but have been following this thread with great sadness & disgust. It truly astounds me that the grooming industry isn't regulated Blows me away in all honesty... It makes the whole industry open slather for any old numpty or the less than genuine, animal loving person to set up shop. And here we are honest animal lovers taking our precious pooches to get 'professional' care. Hmmmm no wonder I groom my own guys. I am sickened at the thought that poor Bailey was left tethered with a check collar no less & unattended while the 'groomer' was at lunch Totally unexceptable.... under any circumstances. Poor fella at 14 he was probably only trying to lay down or something. It would have been quite a long time for him to stand in the one place without being left there alone Makes my blood boil with the thought of it. I would be suing the pants of the owner, not for the money but to make sure they pay for what they have done. I would also tell anyone that will listen about this horrendous incident, to raise peoples awareness of what can happen in establishments that aren't managed with the dogs best interest's/care are top priority. Such a beautiful boy
  2. May I ask who you are insured with now & why? The whole insurance thing & which one to choose is very confusing atm as I would like, what most want, value for money. Feel free to PM me if that suits you, thanks :) I changed to Petplan. Just before Hamish came home I did a bundle of research (as between signing Kenz up and getting Hamish was when they did the policy change). As you'd know with old Emma's medical history I'm a bit scared of not having insurance, and for those who don't know - in her last 6 months of life I spent about $10,000 all of which would have been covered by insurance if she had been insured (too old when I got her)!!! So Kenzie was with 1300Insurance, but they did the swap from 100% cover to 75% cover, premium went up, more research made me realise that they only cover things for the first 12 months they have the problem then it counts as a chronic condition which is pre-existing and they won't cover it any more. Changed to Petplan because the premium was the same as what I was paying, the payouts would be similar to what I would have gotten with 1300 or better, excess was less, and they cover conditions for life. After having a diabetic dog that's really important to me!

  4. OMG cazstaff, I am at a loss for words..... I just feel numb & extemely cold reading your tragic post. Can't begin to imagine how you are feeling What an horrific way to lose your beloved boy . R.I.P. Beautiful Buddy In all honesty, please don't blame yourself. You have every right to be as mad as hell, full blame lies with the "professional" groomer's. I would be persueing Buddy death legally so this catastrophy doesn't happen to another beautiful boy. My sincere condolences. I'm ever so sorry
  5. Phew ! For a moment there..... LOL Didn't want to read anymore crap :)
  6. Well said Dancin bc's. Flexi's are great when correctly used & your dog can enjoy some safe freedom :)
  7. OMG who in their right mind leaves poison around dogs & their puppies Crate training by leaving your dog outside in the crate for an extended period of time Dog playing with kitten, oop's kitty is dead Etc etc...... If all of this is in fact, truth, I have read the last post by you ME. Sorry but too upsetting for me. .
  8. Hi folks & happy new year to everybody. We are back home safe & sound after hols in Victoria. Must report that Stella was so well behaved the whole car journey which is 24 hours round trip in total, just amazing both of them guys didn't make a sound. We stopped every 3 hours or so to get out & stretch our legs etc without a problem. We stayed with family who have a lovely fully fenced big backyard that both Stella & Sonny enjoyed to the max. Running around their huge rose garden. Stella hardly made a sound, no crying or frantically running around, nothing.... She was totally calm for the whole 2 weeks. Now this is the part I just don't understand, as soon as we get home to her own familiar yard she reverts back to her frantic behaviour the minute I open the gate to let her in. All the crying, whining & blind running starts. I couldn't even approach her yesterday arvo to try & calm her down because she was just running blind, in an almost trance like state. It was way to hot for her Thunder shirt. So even if I could of caught her which I couldn't I couldn't of put that on. I was very upset as she had been so relaxed until then. I went through the differences between the 2 backyards in my head to try & come up with a possible trigger for such behaviour. There are a couple of things. The yard on hols didn't have any people looking in on us like we have all along our boundary fence, double story houses with balconies facing our b.yard. Maybe this upsets her ??? There is also one very loud dog behind us that barks a bit at home that always seems to set her off & once she is in a heightened state anything after that only adds to the frenzied behaviour. Just so upsetting as she can be so calm, for an extended period of time as I have witnessed it now & she comes to the safest place she can be, home, & she is a cot case Poor girl... I am at a loss as to what else I can do for her now, besides move house, which I am thinking about. I know it sounds extreme but this is very extreme behaviour & upsets/worries me so much. So afraid she is going to hurt herself or have a heart attack or something. ATM she is sound asleep under the table on our back deck after a big beach run/swim so she is tired & the meds really help her with that. But it will be short lived as the frenzied stuff usually starts early afternoon
  9. Yes I have the same problem Vickie when visitors arrive Sonny is straight over to them with what ever he can find could be anything from a ball to a stick 1mm long, pestering them to throw it. My "finish" command falls on deaf ears then. I usually end up putting him outside for a few minutes or giving him something else to do. He does really love having people over so he learning very quickly if he wants to see our visitors he has he mustn't annoy them with his 'go find' game :)
  10. It depends. I most certainly will ask first. Must admit I love 99% of all dogs /puppies but will go out of my way for a BC. Bias, I know. Whatever it takes to catch up to the owner, especially if they resemble mine. Tragically embarrassing, yes.. I love to steal a cuddle of a swf or anything fluffy. Sammy, JS or alike. Then again I also love the grey's :)
  11. LOL yes we sure do pers ... :) The Adventures of Stan, giggle...
  12. Short answer T , hell yes ! LOL.......
  13. Sonny is obsessed with fetch/scent work. Size certainly doesn't matter to him LOL Sticks, twigs, blades of grass etc. He just fixates on whatever he wants you to throw until you throw it. I have just taught him to 'finish' & I don't throw anything if I don't want to play a fetch game or want to end a game I thank him for the game & that signals the end. It has worked a treat so far but you do have to be consistant with it & be aware that they will persist to try & play at times, just ignore this behaviour. You do have to be rigilant as the slightest sign of 'game on' you will be have to start the finish lesson from the beginning. As others have said having a driven/ focused dog is really good as long as you positively direct it. You can certainly use it to your advantage & have a very motivated happy pooche :)
  14. Oh wow.... He is awesome Rozzie. Looks so happy & healthy. Just wonderful to see. What a grand old man :)
  15. We don't do the Vet waiting room with our guys. Too many dogs & numpty owners. It is a very small room so not a good mix. Stella hates the Vet anyway. So we wait in the car & the Vet just comes out to the front door & gives us the ' nod' when he is ready to see us. We are very fortunate :)
  16. I was at Arthurs Seat yesterday Dxenion lol Great view :)
  17. Sorry off topic a bit but ness, so sorry to hear about Kenzie's retirement
  18. Sorry am no help to you but will be keeping an eye on this thread as I would like to help Stella improve her self control skills.
  19. Well we had 2 lots of fireworks last night. One at around 9 & the other at mid night. Sonny sailed through as expected, my bomb proof boy. Stella was so frightened, poor girl. She had her meds early & OH sat by her & gave her a cuddle. Be it wrong or right. She had shut down immediately emotionally. I made sure she had her sucky toy, "Pete" which always seems to help her & was in her crate in our bedroom with the door open. She did settle alot quicker than last year when they finished which I was really happy about. Last year she was still a drooling mess an hour later Sonny was terrific, he went & laid by her crate occassionally touching her nose to nose, sweet boy :) Anyway, I wish everyone a happy & healthy new year. Hope it brings us all more memorable moments with our precious pooches....
  20. + 1... Love Mason Pearson b/n brushes as well. Thanks for the heads up on them dancinbcs, they work magic on both my BC's who are neutured so their coats are quite thick, especially around their pants etc :)
  21. Same stans mum :) we are on hols atm in Mornington Vic. but will be staying home as Stella also absolutely hates loud noises. It will Thunder Shirt, meds & Sonny her BFF + lots of human company :)
  22. Same here..... Noticed no provement with dog rocks what so ever. Have also tried ACV with same results. Have heard bi carb soda in their dinner can help reduce lawn damage from dog urine, but don't know how success it is or how much you should add.
