  1. OMG !! I had no idea this was going on. Melzawelza must have been very traumatic to witness such horror. Poor little puppies Deeply saddening ......
  2. Oh dear poor man & his little foxie dog. Such hero's these pathetic b@st@ds. The goldie was lucky to escape by the sounds of it. Hope the man recovers ok. R.I.P little foxie
  3. Totally agree cazstaff. K9 Angel totally blows me away with the amount of heart & effort that she throw's into every single aspect of her life. K9 just so inspires me....
  4. Yes megan. Not exactly the sticks but unable to go home. Probably another 2 to 3 weeks at the least as far as I know. OH is still in plaster. Stella does seem a lot happier this afternoon & is asleep atm. Ya ... I think I chould have a nap myself. I give her everything I have & reactive dogs are just so draining on your emotions aren't they ? Sometimes you just feel like you are going nowhere fast with them Thanks for your support Corvus & advice to seek advice regarding Stella's meds.
  5. Hi folks, sorry for just jumping in amongst everybody. Have been reading some of these latest threads with great interest. Some of these methods of redirection I hope to trial one day with Stella instead of her just running blindly, crying, with her toy pelican stuffed in her mouth everytime she hears the slightest noise Quick update regarding my girl. Found a wonderful local Vet & discussed Stella's issues in some detail & he perscribed Kalma tablets to be used in conjunction with her Endep to try & help her in stressful situations like the one we are in atm. So I gave her her first dose this morning. She seems slightly more settled. It will be a case of getting the dose right though, so time will tell. Wish us luck guys. I am really struggling with her lately. Her reactiveness is escalating rapidly. And I am floundering & feeling like an exhausted failure. Poor girl, I hate to think how she must be feeling
  6. Hi Tara, nowstarin has actually saved me tying LOL. Was going to give the exact same advice. Would just like to add don't forget to manually check Abbey from head to toe daily with your finger tips against her hair growth. In ears, mouth, behind stoppers on front legs, armpits & any other body cavity. Ticks are horrible things & will hide anywhere. Lastly but not least. Hope you have lots of fun on the beach. Its a beautiful part of the world. Used to holiday there lots as a child & can also remember making my very first BC puppy lie still for his daily tick check & picking off quite a few...
  7. I've have had both my guys on Augustines Superboost A+ for about 3 weeks now. So far very impressed. Big improvements with over all appearance & general performance. Certainly will continue using it :)
  8. Sometimes my boy is a bit 'unsure' with a new antler, he prefers the pre owned ones from Stella LOL. I just dip the end of a new Antler in peanut butter to kick him off :) spoilt boy.
  9. Bianca c, thanks so much for your kind thoughts :) gotta love this thread for all the support & experience. I'm sure our 2 would be the very best of friends. Corvus, Stella is on a 3/4 of her meds. I have to take her to the Vet tomorrow actually as she had something in her eye so I'm going to enquire about increasing the dose for a short time as she is quite aggertated.
  10. Hi Snook & thanks for your concerns. With the LAT thing I find atm Stella wont except the treats, when she is in a reactive state. At other times like at home she was working really well with LAT & would sit & focus on me. IMHO I think she is more anxious lately because I am with the present circumstances with OH & all so am trying to suck it all up for now & put in a braver face for her sake & see if thay helps her. I did see a glimpse of improvement yesterday so heres hoping Have tried DAP collars & spray to no avail. No change in her at all
  11. Yep that's the best part - once you're both improving the association and teaching an alternative behaviour, then you're really motoring Awesome awesome awesome! Remember if she does react then you will take a step back, but you can always regain any losses you've made with patience and repitition :) Sending good vibes for your poor OH too! [/quote Thanks for your support & kind thoughts. Much appreciated LBD. Well we had a pretty good with Stella. She did react to most things but she did settle so much quicker than usual. She also didn't get to the same dizzy heights of reactivity as she did yesterday. We do however have 2 major issues, one being an electric wheelchair that wizzes by our annexe on a regular basis, Stella goes balistic.... she must hear it coming way before we do because she is going off well before I see the chair coming. The other issue is she decided she might slip out under the annexe tonight while I was in the shower & tell next doors Aussie Bulldog exactly what she thought of him miss smarty pants & hes a lovely dog. Lucky OH got called her back & placed her in a very stern down/stay on her bed. But not without the whole street checking out the commition
  12. Yes.... Couldn't agree more mm & thats why I NEVER leave my guys unattended ANYWHERE EVER. So pleased he is back in his loving owners arms, safe & sound. Best news ever for all concerned :)
  13. That makes perfect sense to me LBD. In Stella reactitive moments if I give her the choice to either LAT or chase that passing dog, I know what she'd choose every time And because she is so reactive it has made any form of training a very slow process. As you say she is oblivious to everything & completely shuts down in her extremely high state of arousal. So we have just put a bag of chopped bbq chicken in the esky in the annexe this morning & have a couple of instances with passing golf buggies & dogs with immediate improvement already. Im wrapped with any positive directiion :) Yes Tassie, your very right there. Men are just the worst patients LOL. Poor bugger I feel so sorry for him though. He works sooo hard all year & this happens to him. He thought he was just going to get a few stitches come back & go out fishing again. Wrong ..... Cut through his Archilles, ouch! Oh well not much we can do but make the best of it :)
  14. Thanks Tassie. My main concern is getting the timing exactly right when doing LAT with her otherwise I'd be rewarding her for reactiveness. Thats the last thing I want to do. I am not the best with training , so I will have to rely on google. Just no imagination & to be honest it doesn't interest me as much as other activities do. So I'm going to have to lift my game big time in that area as well. ATM I'm bloody exhausted between running after OH & the 2 'kids'. I'll need another holiday to get over this one LOL.
  15. Yes, Stella is a ball girl & loves playing fetch. She also loves tugs but if she is in a heightened state she just goes into an almost trance like emotional state. Her eyes are glazed in an instant & she see's & hears nothing. I can't reach her to engage her in anything to distract her, if that makes any sense.
  16. Would love you to send me your training clips. Stella is a very nervy / reactive/protective/fearful/anxious girl. Almost anything can ignite her. We have made some progress. She is really good with push bikes & skate boards now which is something but we are going nowhere fast atm. I hav heard good results with the water bottle thing but I also thought it may make her more fearful if that is possible
  17. Thanks panzer. Isn't just so distressing for all concerned I have tried everything I can think of with her & no improvement as yet. She is getting lots of daily exercise etc. Maybe she needs more mental work, I just dont know what to do
  18. Hi everyone. Was after some advice regarding Stella, again... Long story sorry but were on a 3 week caravaning trip when on day 4 OH had accident in our new boat & cut his Archillies tendon so now he is unable to walk for unaided for 3 months so we are here indefinately. First week Stella wad great. Didn't bark or get anxious at all really. But by 2nd week started getting a bit territorial around our van etc when other dogs approach. Now she has really escalated with barking aggressively, lungeing etc at pretty much anything that moves in our street. We have both dogs enclosed in our annexe & one of us is with them at all times. I have tried her thunder shirt which does help. Also tried to distract her but without success as she is so quick to escalate from 0 to 100. Was thinking if trying a water spray bottle ?? But any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am finding her anxiety very upsetting atm & I really need this behaviour to stop as she is getting far too aggressive & upset. We also don't want any complainents either I suprised we haven't already.... Sorry for the ramble guys but am at my wits with my girl. She is so good most of the time & at night in the van she is perfect. Not one sound. Her reactiveness is just soooo frustrating. And anything seems to trigger her. From other dogs to mowers, & anything in between
  19. So very true Snook :) Sometimes you feel the harder things get with your reactive pooch, the more you try, the worse their behaviour gets. It's like you take one step forward, then 2 back. You put everything you have into their progress. I & I'm sure all of us have cried many a tear in sheer despaIr when you are at your wits & exhausted what you feel is every a possible, available avenue. Then you read a positive post on this great thread & you think there may be light at the end of your tunnel :)
  20. My last Border got Dementia at 13. He was a magnificent red boy whom I rescued at 18 months old. He used to get 'stuck' in the corners of the loungeroom till I came & turned him around. He would keep drinking water if I didn't take it away. I always supervised him. He would get very frustrated with himself & growl at me sometimes. He never once growled at me previously, even after being abused beyond belief in the 'care' of his previous owners he too lost control of his water works, much to his embarrassment as he was always a very clean boy. The thing that upset me the most though was the very lost look that had taken over his once very loving eye's
  21. Well done staffyluv !! Bet you are wrapped & very rightly so. With progress like that it keeps me hopeful with my Stella. Maybe one day we to can attend group classes without all hell breaking loose. Great work & congrats to you both :)
  22. Thanks BC...they are currently out of stock Oh bugger, sorry. I'd better follow your thread then :)
