Have been back home for 10 days now Hankdog. Thanks for asking. It is good to be back & OH is on the mend slowly. He is still hobbling around. Is having his first go at wearing a shoe for a short time today. Has to rebuild his calf & leg now as it has withered away pretty much. Slow & steady. He is going back to work in a month or so hopefully I am so pleased with Stella's progress. I am doing a few things differently. I have tweaked with her meds, which I think I have pretty right atm. Also I have been much firmer with her. And am really using my voice more. I am a very soft spoken person. A dog experienced friend pointed out to me that I maybe should lower my voice (not yell or anything) but lower it when Stella was misbehaving. Boy, the look on her face when I first did this was funny. She looked at me like, I was so unaware that I was just 'asking' Stella, don't do that. Like I would ask a person, politely Now when I correct Stella, in my new much deeper, almost growly voice. She isn't scared of me or anything but she pays a lot more attention to me & doesn't just keep acting up like she would of before. It has really surprised me. The power of the tone of your voice. Hopefully we will continue on our positive roll. I understand Stella will never NOT be a reactive girl. She will always be a work in progress but as long as I can manage her & help her be the best girl she can be in social situations. So she can live a happy, fairly relaxed life I will be more than happy :) Panzer Attack, thank you for the gold stars :) -
That's hilarious. I think he was framed too tlc, very funny

Well done Jake. "Celebrate", party at Jake's tonight LOL Hankdog . Isn't it the best feeling though. Maybe he may like to party on with my Stella who is on her 6th day in a row on being on her best behaviour. I am so proud of her. You can see she is trying so very hard to be good too. The only time she almost had an breakdown was when a Great Dane came charging up at us today but even then she was much improved. I'm celebrating :) -

Funny Things You Have Heard About Your Breed...
BC Crazy replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have had the very same thing said to me a number of times. Also that I was being very "cruel" for keeping Border Collies in suburbia as they are breed to chase sheep on a farm in the country. Hmmm....... whatever !!! As I cast my eye's over my guys. They are both passed out in front of the TV with us in the lounge room in their bean bags. They are still getting over our 7 week camping trip. I'm a cruel woman  -

Yes Stans mum, my guys are pretty much the exact same style of diet & raw/dry & extra's ratio. Seems to work for them as well. Took us a lot of sampling, especially with the dry food even though it only makes up around 1/4 to a 1/3 of their diet. -

Anyway Stans mum, I would consider you the very best of dog owners as you feed Stan what works best for Stan & his bum  No matter what type of food it is. It is not about the name or $$$ etc it's about whatever keeps your dog in his best condition. Only a very caring owner who takes pride in their BF's health & condition would go to the trouble of trail & error to get it right -

Wonderful news Lisa CC. Ruby is a lovely looking ACD I had a bitch that looked very similar to her years ago. Pretty face. So pleased she is progressing well. Any movement is a positive thing. It will take time. You must be thrilled. You have taken excellent care of her

I'm another jealous Doler Lollipup but not only about the fact that you meet her but I adore red Border's. My heart dog was a beautiful red Border. Chester is so handsome -
What is with people who don't believe in walking their dogs on leads ????? I just don't get it. For the dogs safety & to save a lot of heart ache, why on earth can't they just use a lead. It is not that difficult & can save so much trouble & even save a dogs life. It drives me crazy. I walk my 2 on lead, trying to teach them to behave, walk nicely blah, blah blah & along comes an out of control, "off leash" dog or dogs & usually walking well behind is the "responsible" owner screaming, "there friendly"..... I get so angry. That my 2 get upset, mostly Stella, she usually looses it & it takes me ages to calm her down. When the whole scenario could have been totally avoided with a little common sense. Then there's the 2 'really well trained 'BC's that a local guy own's that didn't need leashes cause they were just sooo obedient. Even when they crossed the street.... Now he just has 1 BC doesn't he

So looking forward to seeing the results of the Border Collies. Got invited to go to the Royal today with an exhibitor but didn't want to risk leaving OH at home as he has severed his Archilles tendon & if he tripped over or something happen & I'm a 3.5 hour drive away, I'd never forgive myself. There is always next year. I'm so going to miss seeing all the beautiful Borders today Good luck everyone

You'll love your new bath Tassie & your back will thank you. No more bending for extended lengths of time :) So much easier. Enjoy !

Same here Dxenion. Mine came with some sort of harness that you can use to attach them to the bath, under constant supervision of course but both my guys are more than happy to be bathed in there Booster Bath. Both mine are pretty heavily coated so it could take an hour before I am finished a shampoo/condition/b dry. Even then Sonny had to be coaxed out. Thats after I wake him up, giggle :)

I hear you Hankdog... I don't think I will ever figure out Stella either. 'Unlocking the puzzle', I can't even find the bloody key HD  There are moments I think, Oh here we go, she is going to completely flip out here & brace myself for the worst, she's as good as gold. The next thing she is going off her tree & I can't see nor hear anything Predicable she certainly is not, which makes it all the more difficult to manage. She did amazing LAT today for me on our leash free, perfect. Also had a Vet visit, after some assistance into the vet's room as she wouldn't get out of the car, again perfect. Not totally comfortable but she didn't bite or even growl like last time. How's your jaw after retrieving it  Jake did really, really well Our reactive sweethearts are such suprise packets at times. -
I have ours connected up outside to our outside shower, OH is a plumber so he installed it. Very simple to do though & very cheap as well.

Know the feeling Dxenion

They are very strong Whipitgood. A lot of the time both my BC's will get into the bath together cause they love it before I separate & organise them & it shows no signs of breaking or anything. I have stood in it on more than one occassion. It is also outside in the elements 24/7. Hasn't aged at all. I don't have to bend down at all but am only short at 5 feet tall :)

I have a Booster Bath from Deals Direct & use it daily for my 2 BC's as they swim in salt water. I would highly recommend them. It had saved my back as it has legs so is raised off the ground. Very durable & light if you need move it. I have had mine for 3 years now. OH had made a ramp off it for the dogs to walk up on & he connected it to hot/cold water as well. Best $250 dollars I have spent imo :)

"crying" When Left At Home
BC Crazy replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I can so understand your struggles with being able to function PME if you aren't sleeping very well as I have the very same issues & usually 'wake' up more tired than when I went to bed. It makes it very difficult to be at your most productive & in turn things that you normally would be doing are just not achievable atm. Hamish probably is wide awake first thing in the morning & ready for a big walk/play or to be taken with you & next thing he is being left at home be him self & is just a bit lonely...2nd the video cam if possible. I have made a HUGE mistake with my girl & haven't left her nor have I taken her out much on her own since a puppy as she has/does scream the place down when Sonny is not near her .I am kicking myself for it. In my naivety I thought it would help her be more confident, but all I have done is allow her to rely on Sonny for emotional support & in turn she has become more 'needy' & she was very 'needy' to begin with. So now at 2 years of age I have a huge task ahead of me as I very gradually have to start taking Stella out on her own. So far she is going really well when she is being taken out for 5 to 10 mins at a time. Perfect on lead but nervous which is to be expected I guess. Not so good when being left alone though Time will tell. The guilt of this is killing me & I feel like a complete idiot as I was unaware until now that I have only exacerbated her insecurities. So we have a bit of a long road ahead of us. It is very difficult also as we don't have very friendly neighbours & they won't think twice about reporting a whingy girl at the slightest noise Good luck with your boy PME. I'm sure he will settle down very soon & hope you can get some quality sleep as it helps make everything a lot easier :) Sorry am not very much help to you. Certainly not meaning to take over your thread Will be watching this thread to hopefully learn how to 'suck it up' & not be so soft, feeling sorry about leaving one of my guys at home while I spend quality one on one time with the other & vise versa. -

BC Crazy replied to megan_'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Same with Stella TK. She is dog reactive but multiply it by a million if the dog is off lead/ running/chasing a ball. Movement is Stella down fall. That & noise. Stella will completely lose it with both happening. Eg. Mowers, tractors, leash free dogs. If a person appears out of the blue that she didn't notice. Just to name a few things. I also love any footage I can view that may help me to help Stella conquer her fears :) -
Stella will hump Sonny during a game on his side. Only for a second or 2. It's just excitment I think. She also does it by herself, after I have played tug or something with her. She is a very happy girl & gets so excited that I reckon it is a natural outlet for her, nothing more. She never does it to any other dogs & never people. Both my guys are netured. It truely doesn't bother me & if it bothers Sonny I am sure he will let her know :)
