We don't actually know that. There are actually good signs that point towards it being so. Bloat is a mystery....that's as scientific as people can be.

My dogs go into the yard to toilet and that is about it LOL I do walk them regardless of the weather though everyday, if it's to hot then we go out later.

Animal Adoption Agency are the same people that run a Doggy Boot Camp that is discussed on here many a time....not positive..... If the dog is not a pedigree with papers then they can not prove it is not a Pitt Bull. Staffy Rescue NSW maybe ideal to get in touch with as they can tell you what they reccomend to owners.

Is It Right To Change A 7 Yr Old Dogs Name?
sas replied to Chocolate's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've fostered older dogs before and the change of name has never been an issue. In cases a new name can move a dog forward as well if there have been not so good things attached to that name. We really don't give dogs enough credit....a name change is basic stuff. -
It really depends what kind of allergy you are dealing with. With my boy we don't wash him regularily and he is allergic to oats to Aloveen is a no go for him. Some allergic dogs benefit from being rinsed with just water every day. When you mentioned about the flea allergy, Fleas don't have to remain on the dog, they simply have to bite and move on and this is enough for a sensitive dog to show flea allergy dermatitis. In the greater scheme of things the dog is not going to suffer from havign the anti-biotics, why not pop the dogs on the course and see if it will assist, this may help your Vet narrow it down further. Allergic dogs suffer secondary skin infections so sometimes anti-biotics are nececssary. In addition, has you Vet conducted a skin tape test for yeast or a skin scraping for mites? I really do doubt your 5 month old mini is contributing to allergies. Continue on with what your Vet is asking you to do that way they can assist you further. If you don't feel you're getting enough out of your Vet ask to be referred to a Dermatologist. Calendula tea spray can assist.

You can actually train a dog to walk nicely on a piece of rope.........it's not so much the tools, but the training method and the tools just make the job a bit easier. I know that - and thats where I'm hoping to get to with her, eventually, but without the tools, its physically impossible to hold her, you'll end up flat on your face. I cant wait until the day I can walk her on a flat collar, but to get there I need tools! Perhaps consider working on your Leadership first so you have a basis to work with the dog?

My dog has Osteo-Arthritis and still really enjoys his Obedience classes, you just have to watch them and know when it's time to take a break or finish up and make sure your instructor understands your dogs limitations as well.

Craig Murray is my reccomendation from MonElite's post, he'll go to the home of the person, also K9Pro gets a reccomendation as well.

Advice About Itchy Puppy's Diet
sas replied to Polgara's Shadow's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Far out, I'd serioulsy be sending the dog back to the Breeder if it arrived like that. What does the breeder have to say? Get pup onto a good diet i.e. a high quality kibble like Royal Canin, Pro Plan, Eagle Pack etc. Tin food is pretty much maccas for dogs. Take the dog to the Vet and get them to rule out what they can i.e. yeast skin tape test, skin scraping for mites (although you can't always get a reliable reading) get the Vet to check for fleas or signs that fleas have been on the dog. -
I have used Rufus & Coco, it's a good product. Vets all Natural also involves a diet plan that goes with the Supplement that we are trialing at the moment.

I don't have the time nor the interest to trapse up information for you when you're more than capable of doing it yourself, I'm relaying information which I have read, I have no idea how many people were in the trial or what criteria/restrictions were in place, it's not the type of information I find important to retain, if you want to satisfy your sceptic mind then you need to go searching for the information whether it's Australia or not Also, I'm not retarded, you don't have to bold the word Clinical everytime you mention it LOL
-
Ditto. A trainers job is to train the handler how to time corrections, how to hold the lead as well....it's the most important process. Regardless of what tool you choose to work with, they all require some sort of timing and education.

I picked it up out of curiousity...it has chicken in it.

Ask yoru GP, good place to start Or Drug companies
-
Na, but you can speak to your local GP or if you Google you should be able to find something.

I like the site alot better, it's easier to navagate round and the store is a good idea too.

No, I didn't even think of that. But I do have a slight bias to support ethical pet product retailers and give them every chance to succeed. If it was a human product retailer, I would probably be making a complaint to council. Dogs deserve good food too, but I would see how the retailer handles this before giving them a hard time. There is less profit in these types of dog treats than there are in the lines on the supermarket shelf, and I would hate it if the supermarket was the only place we could buy treats from. A retailer constantly or knowingly selling infested food should be put out of business very promptly. A consumer has every right to be pissy about that kinda thing though.
-
Ah well then, no problem...then yeah you have every right to be pissy your treats came in such a manner!
-
Which is fine because many natural products have clinical trials behind them
-
St Johns Wort is a herbal remedy for depression and is actually clinically proven. In humans, depends on which country did the clinical trial. Anyway, lets not get into that can of worms Vitamin B is a good one, thanks for reminding me. Executive Stress for Humans is great. I have a hypnosis CD for thunderstorms (which are brewing here in Perth right now as we speak) Clinical Trial was in Australia actually. CD for thunderstorms only work to a certain degree as there are smells and energies also associated with storms that dogs get concerned by. Good Luck

Don't discount fleas, you don't have to have a flea problem for it to be a problem to a sensitive dog, after all fleas have to bite dogs generally before they die. Best to head to your Vet so they can have a look at these small lumps and do some tests and provide you with some advise

Are people pussy footing around this because there is a DOL member that sells treats and people think this order maybe from her and don't want her to get a bad wrap?

The Surprising Science Of Motivation
sas replied to Aidan's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Not everything on the video is relevant to dogs. Dogs don't work for Google, for e.g, but they do herd sheep, use the ATM, and retrieve pheasant in thick cover. I suppose the fundamental relevance is that not everything that dogs do is what Dan Pink refers to as "mechanical", and that behavioural science has shown that "if/then" rewards are sometimes poor motivators for cognitive tasks that require you (or the dog) to think outside the box. Still doesn't make things that relevant to what we already know? -
Working with Dane Rescue, I know of only a few who have taken their dogs back given the opportunity. Luckily our breed doesn't end up in rescue in large volumes so many of the Breeders never have their dogs end up in a rescue situation to start with. If they don't want to take them back you can't do anything about it and sometimes you wouldn't want the dog back with some breeders who just see $$$ the Dane community however is extremely supportive and will really go above and beyond to help a Dane in need.

The allergies your dog is experiencing could be the result of different things....Thyroid problems, depletion of trace elements and minerals, bacteria / yeast problem, genetic atopic allergies, could be a food intolerance or food allergy, parasites etc. First step is to head to your Vet and have skin scrapings done and treat for the probablity of different parasites. If you don't get a result there the next step is generally food trials. It's a great idea to start working with a Derm through this process to make sure you're doing it correctly and to get the support and advice you need. Depending on what the Derm says, they may go ahead and do intra-dermal testing / blood allergen tests. My dog is currently doing an 8 week trial of the Vets All Natural Diet for allergic dogs, we're 3 weeks in and hoping for something positive! Calendula tea used to wipe or spray onto the irritated areas can help soothe, if the dog is having a cronic bout it may not be enough but definately worth a try. Good Luck! Allergic Dog Owner
