You might want to research Hills a bit more, many conisder it to be an expensive useless food full of fillers that do nothing for the dog. For a large dog you can break the feed up into Breakfast and Dinner, dogs don't need all their food at night because they're resting and don't need the energy from it. Weigh the dog and check the food packaging as to what to feed, each dog differs slightly but you can use the packaging instructions to begin with. Tilly I'm sure there are other reasons for those dogs conditions, a large portion of Great Danes in Australia are fed Eukanuba without any pattern in health conditions. My dog was fed Pro Plan and Eagle Pack and has some health conditions but I wouldn't link it to the feed if you know what I mean. There is no known reason for Bloat or torsion, even dogs fed twice a day bloat and torsion. We use it as an assumptive preventative. There's a Bloat study here that you may be interested in: http://www.dmantugs.com.au/Attachment1_Bloat_Study.pdf

My dog has a couple of different conditions and his aggression will spike when the conditions spike but I don't just ignore his behaviour just because he's 'sick'. Keep working at it with the vets. Crate the dog when you can't deal with the dog.

My dog is an allergy dog and lives in a Fish diet so yep you can feed Fish to your dogs.

I don't think as Guardians of dogs we can be anti-drug, if drugs are what are best for our dogs then we have to provide them. Preventing a dog from having quality of life is selfish and cruel...

My 2.5 year old dog never cleans himself but I never smell him....maybe its' the anal glands?

My boy was juts desexed and doesn't have one. Depends on the dog, if he doesn't need it i.e. if he's not harassing the stitches then he doesn't need it on.

Boston Terrier Throat Surgery

Is your breeder in the same state as you as maybe they can reccomend at Surgeon? -
Our 6 year old dog Nate isn't doing anything to assert his dominance. That can happen, that's why you'll need to step in and sort the pup out in leu of the older dog doing it. Pups have puppy licence as well. We are making sure that Nate is the first to get pats, the first to be fed, and gets alot of attention infront of sarge. As much as we like to think as humans we can control top dog positions, dogs swap around during the day depending on what they find valuable, so instead of giving pats and food first to the one you want to be higher in the pack, give pats and food first to the one who is the calmest that way you're telling the dogs that this calm behaviour is rewarded...who can be the calmest first to get the food/pat. But Sarge is bullying him already, and Nate has had issues with being bullied in the past. This is your job now to step in and show the pup what the boundaries are, you can leash pup whilst inside the house if neccessary. Sarge will put himself between myself and Nate when we're playing fetch, and chase nate when he comes near, grabbing his back, and his collar. Do you correct this behaviour? I would demand space around me and Nate when we're playing, Sarge is a pup and will learn quickly if you teach him how to respect personal space. All nate will do is growl a bit and then run off. He's trying to be less defensive about it, you really need to step in and repremand. He has only told Sarge off once and it worked that time, but i'm just wanting to know what other things we need to do to keep a balance. Be the Leader and control the packs interactions. Seperate these 2 dogs when unsupervised until the pup knows its' place. at the moment they are the same size and i was expecting Nate to have put Sarge in his place, but my worry is that Nate won't and then sarge is going to be 80kg and still doing the same thing! Hense why you need to step in now. If you're unsure on how to control the packs interactions, perhaps ask a trainer to come in and work with you

Not entirely sure. They have a team of 11, they want one more. Four dogs showed potential on Saturday so we all get to train with the team for the next few weeks and I think we all get to take part in the mock competition on the 24th. After that they'll pick "the underdog". Apparently there's opportunities for the other three dogs to perform with the team at demos in the future if they're good. They told us to look at YouTube movies to check out the different techniques. I came across this one ... Go the SBTs!!! hahaha I came across this one:

Have you spoken to your Breeder again about the dogs condition? -
Mine love carrots too! They have raw carrots instead of bones Have also been roasting and dehydrating sweet potato and carrot slices, however I just dont have the time to cook. Fish is a no go. Ive been cooking up my own biscuits with oats, lactose free milk, wholemeal flour, carob chips and egg and the dogs go crazy for them! But it took me about 12 hours to bake the darn things and the only lasted a week. Shall check out the ones at Coles. Thanks everyone for your help!! Heya, Did you see the Royal Canin sole protein (vegetarian) kibble? My dog went on it for his allergies.

The clinical data says different....I didn't expect it to but it does...

There's one in West Ryde

Have you considered pure MSN (start with 3 grams and day and work up to 2 x 3 gram doses per day) and then compliment that with a dose of Glucosamine? Pure MSN works well but in clinical trials showed that it works faster when taken with Glucosamine. Pure MSN has been used for decades on Horses and humans, many American Vets use it in Canines also for inflamation, joint and spinal problems as it well known to minimise inflamation and assists in the reduction of pain also, you can give it via crystals, powder or capsuals although the capsuals aren't widely available in Australia and then do a double whammy by applying it topically as well. MSM is a nutritional supplement and has been clinicaly trialed and tested since the 60's, strangely enough isn't widely used in Australia...go figure. No allergic reactions or side effects other than loose stools if you give too much too soon. Looking through different clinical results Chondroitin doesn't seem as good as either of the above.

Dog Needs Rest For Injury - Herbal Remedies
sas replied to blondeborder's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Check with your Vet first but there are canine calming pastes that you can get as well as a human herb called Valerian that you can give to dogs as well. The canine calming one should be fine as it's mostly just VitB. -
WOW Way to go guys!!!!!

Anyone Heard Of This 'condition' Affecting (esp) Malinois?
sas replied to Erny's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
That's really interesting... -
Yeah, stay away from Franchisee trainers if you can unless you've heard great things about the specific trainer.

Don't be put off by buying in America because thing are cheaper there and with the $ right now, even with shipping it could be cheaper to buy over there

Why ignore the nutty behaviour? Let pup know what behaviour you find acceptable in the house. Use a crate for quite time but not for punishment. After the 'episodes' she has expelled her mental energy - so you like to do mini 2-5 minute training sessions after dinner to drain the mental energy. Pup is pushing boundaries, it's normal - get together as a family and discuss what the rules will be and stick to them

I've tried to contact them on a few occasions - not to ask for money - just to let them know what one of the dog's theyve bred has been through. I got the husband or the daughter and was told the wife/mum would call me back, i've tried 3 times, last time in February... they don't have the internet, i got the point. I saw them at a show last week and really wanted try again, but by the time i worked out what to say (without being angry!) i couldn't find them. Next time, when he's with us supporting his fluffy brother, i will take him over and tell them his story. My issue isn't the money (i mean its ridiculous, and it is an issue, but it's not the main problem here) my issue is just that they are have shown little/no interest in this genetic problem, turning a blind eye, and it's just really upsetting. They told me when i bought him if i ever wanted to show him down the track that he has perfect eyes being 'large and globular' .. you can see in the pics of him at 8 weeks that they were going to be a problem, they don't look right at all (i wish i had have known at the time) I'm so glad that line has since been removed from the Pug standard. While a huge part of me regrets handing my money over to them and wishing i had have done more research before just assuming that all registered breeders were ethical, a huger part of me is glad that my ignorance led me to this boy so that we could give him 100% attention and care and in return we have the greatest little guy in the world. Exposure and irritation. He couldn't close his eyes fully, so he was never able to blink and flush away dirt/wind etc. Thanks so much for your well wishes everyone!! Hugo has bounced back brilliantly today. Fletcher doesn't like the elizabethan collar though and is trying to remove it for him Can't wait for the suture to come out and the swelling to go down to see if this is all going to pay off - looks great so far. How about writing them a letter, that way you can word things the way you want. I understand it's not about money, I am in a similar situation.

That's fine, she won't die for not eating for 3 days....stand your ground, your giving in just makes her to test the boundaries harder as she knows she'll break you sooner or layer. Suppplements do nothing if the dog isn't getting balanced diet. If the dog is healthy and the Vets can find nothing wrong with her, stand your ground and communicate with your Vet about it, they can be the ones they can tell you what to do if after 2 or 4 days the dog is still refusing to eat. There is a gel you can get that can increase appetite as well, your vet can speak to you about it.
