  1. Not what you are looking for but want to add this one in case someone else is also looking. She reminds me of my last dog and got me a bit teary;if i didn't have a cat i would be tempted. https://www.petrescu...listings/474243
  2. I guess what you mean by a real Staghound is a Wolfhound or Deerhound crossed with a Greyhound ? that's what i see as a Staghound although Staghound is a name given to many Greyhound wolfhound or Deerhound crosses. What the crosses are could be anything.
  3. There are a few Staghound pups on Petresue atm..
  4. Not a puppy though.. http://www.rspcavic....d/Queenie/47829
  5. Popular dog breeds in Australia. http://www.nova969.c...reeds-australia Back to desexing .. Back in the day a basic rule of thumb was ;Small breeds from 6 months ;medium to large;from12 months;Giant breeds from 18 months..
  6. Not really. Much of the research examining risks for certain types of cancers and joint disorders is breed-specific. For example, the second article you linked to is a study of labs and golden retrievers. Findings from studies such as this cannot be generalised to other breeds. So not very helpful for the OP who is getting an SBT. There are more recent and more rigorous academic studies reviewing current literature which conclude that, in general, the benefits of desexing likely heavily outweigh the risks. That's without even considering the benefits of reducing the number of unwanted dogs being dumped at pounds. if this is a valid argument, can someone explain to me why countries like Sweden where only less than 4% of male dogs and approx. 7% of bitches are de-sexed do not have any problems with overpopulation and pounds?...fact is that only USA and Australia is promoting de-sexing as the silver bullet for over-population, and fact is that obviously both countries have problems indicating that this strategy obviously doesn't work. You need to look at what breeds are owned in Sweden compared to Australia and the US.. Are the most popular dog breeds in Sweden more pet friendly and sociable within the community than some more popular breeds in Australia or elsewhere.? Or could it be that Swedes are better dog owners ? It would be interesting to know if differences in breed choice or knowledge of dog ownership are a factor in dumpage rates within different countries.
  7. Keep an eye on Petrescue too,Good Luck with your search. https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/486707
  8. Hugs to you ,the perfect dog will come along soon...
  9. You are going to have to decide by tomorrow if you want to keep the dog or not and stick to your guns either way. What if he turns up and wants the dog back are you going to just cave in and hand her back. I think this guy has a cheek ;he had the dog listed for sale for some time and so had reached a decision that was best for the dog then after the sale he neglects to fill out a transfer of ownership and changes his mind and where are these grieving teenagers; no where to be seen; if they wanted to keep the dog so much they should have paid more attention to the dog and helped with it's care. This family may well be distraught but what about the feelings of you and your family and the dog . You have been put on an emotional roller coaster and i don't think that is fair on you and your family. I guess you could tell your 2 year old that the dog missed it's mum and wanted to go home but really you have been put in a very.stressful situation. If you decide to give back the dog make sure you get cash in hand before you hand over the dog.Take a third party witness with you whatever you decide to do.
  10. Good to know about the Statutory declaration; If i bought a dog i would want the microchip in my name asap .
  11. Yes my sus meter went up while reading the advert blankets some food and crates blah etc..Look elsewhere for a pup..
  12. Remidog you say you have proof of purchase;what does that consist of,has this guy put his signature to anything ? He should know that he needs to transfer ownership and my concern is that if he was to take the dog back and you don't get your money back or he does this again to someone else.you need to contact the registry that handles your dogs microchip and tell them the old owner has not signed the transfer papers. If you send them proof of purchase they may contact him and ask him to change ownership to you at once or they may do anyway once you have shown a signed document / receipt of sale.
  13. If Remidog has all the paperwork and microchip details can ownership be changed without the old owner doing anything.? https://www.car.com.au/updating-registry-records
  14. Thank you for the reply. I believe they are teenage girl/girls. From the conversation we had I believed that they knew about the rehoming as one of the reasons she was getting rehomed was that they weren't spending very much time with the dog. I think they did know and it's more of a case of they missed her once she was gone. Which makes me feel terrible of course! The owner is coming to visit on Sunday but I'm not sure if he plans on bringing the children or not. Will confirm today. We will see how it goes. He did say he does feel she is in a better home with us, but just that they miss the dog terribly. I'm still so torn! I was hoping to get a lot of replies that all leaned one way on here, but it seems everyone helping is torn too! Lol. Well while i understand that they all miss her and sad she is going;if they'' didn't spend much time with the dog'' then i don't see that changing for long if she goes back. Keep her, cancel Sunday and send them a few pictures and an update and leave it at that ;the longer it 's up in the air the harder it will be for them to adjust and it's not fair to you to have this worry on you.You should be relaxing and enjoying the time with your dog.
  15. How old are the children and are they the couples children or grandchildren ? I think it is bad form on their part to not involve the children in the re home process to let the children meet you and let them see that the dog has a good home with you. My parents gave away 2 of my dogs when i was not home and i came back to find them gone. It would have been easier to deal with if i 'd had a say about where they went and given time to accept the situation. We re homed a dog to a relative when my kids were small on advise from trainer and vet as the dog was not suited to children and the kids became scared of her and stopped wanting to play in the yard. We all went together to take the dog to her new Adult home with no kids and the children cried and wailed all the way home in the car that she was the best dog ever;but once home they ran outside to play and hardly mentioned her again. They did get to visit her again a few months later but showed little interest past an initial pat. The following year we adopted a dog from a shelter who truly was the best dog ever for our family;was wonderful with the kids and we had her for 9 wonderful years. At first i thought you should give her back but i wonder if the dog would be happier and get more attention with you . You could suggest that the children visit the dog once and see that you are taking good care of the dog or wait a couple of weeks and see if the old owners have adjusted to him being gone or still want him back.Your 2 year old will take to another dog if you decide to return the dog but i am leaning towards you should keep this one.
  16. They couldn't be found/identified. She's an absolute moron and that's being extremely generous. As for her lawyer - the attitude behind his statement says it all - he'd be taking her instructions after all. She deserves to be publicly shamed for what she's done, that poor little girl will be scarred for life, physically and mentally. Your dogs or not - wouldn't your first instinct be to protect a child, especially as a woman? Yes agree 100 %
  17. If the dogs attacked before why were the dogs not taken by the council.could they not be found after the first attack..? Well i can't call her names here but she deserves a few choice ones. and jail time so over these dog attacks ; eta Just read the link to the lawyers letter..Gosh it makes me feel sick, Those poor kids,i hope they can recover
  18. The problem is with some dog owners and i would presume this owner is they don't know what their dogs are capable of until a disaster happens .They purchase a dog with little if any researching about the breed or buy on looks or popularity alone and have a generic view of how dogs behave and think because their dog is well behaved at home it will behave well off lead in a dog park. I feel this woman was in shock herself at the dogs attack and people sometimes do the wrong thing when in shock . She still needs to be charged for her negligence. I still feel strongly that like Greyhounds many more breeds if not all large dogs should be on leash at all times in public. Councils could have secure runs like they do now in some areas for Greyhounds to run off lead so owners can exercise their dog throw a ball etc without the worry that their dog could get into trouble or cause trouble.
  19. The dogs were off lead in an on-lead park so I don't know what stricter laws would do - given nobody is enforcing the ones they've got. It's about time they did enforce the laws.I don't see Greyhound owners letting their dogs of leash so why can't other dog owners keep their dogs under control.
  20. Stricter leash laws should come about in order to protect the public.Too many off leash dogs about that should never be off lead. Greyhounds are kept on lead for good reasons not because they are bad dogs; I never took my Bull terrier or Bully cross off lead in public because i understood that in some situations they could fight with other dogs if the other dog was not friendly and large dogs running about scare other people .I am fed up with owners who buy a large tough breed and expect it will behave like a soft little fluff ball. How many kids need to be mauled or killed before dumb owners wake up and behave responsibly. Breeders need to take some responsibility too for what they are producing. Whenever a breed becomes too popular then that breed is over produced to the detriment of temperament and health . Add to that random back yard breeding and you have a large number of dangerous; unstable; overly anxious or at best troublesome dogs that should not be in the community and are unfit as family pets. Staffordshire Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers and dare i say Pit Bulls can and Should be great dogs and i am sure there are a few great ones still about but the fact is you only need to look at the shelter lists around the country to see large numbers of these breeds and there crosses and mixes. This should ring alarm bells with breeders that something is not right as so many these breeds clearly are no longer a good fit in the average pet home and community at large. But go on put your heads in the sand and pretend there is no problem while kids are mauled and dogs are put on anxiety meds to get through the day and others line up to get the final needle.
  21. These guys look interesting. http://lowensque.webs.com/about-the-lowchen
  22. With all the antibiotics could need to re balance the gut flora meanwhile ask the vet to try this product. http://www.hillspet.com/en/us/products/pd-canine-zd-dry My cat developed a protein allergy when he was 12 months old with face and ear scratching and loss of fur and is now. on the hills prescription diet for life. Another thing to look at is are there any allergy causing plants in your yard.
  23. Why would a vet even do that;Horrific. The owners should have the dog taken off them they don't deserve to own a dog . I hope the little ones survive.
  24. I will mention the Papillon one of my favorite little dogs after the Cavalier Spaniel. http://dogtime.com/dog-breeds/papillon#/slide/1
  25. Actually I would trust a random greyhound with chooks before I would trust randoms in a LOT of other breeds LOL but I just wanted to make the point that in many instances, rural dwellers need the dog to have access to the chooks to protect them from feral cats and foxes etc. The ferals have been known to enter "secure" chookyards and wreak havoc while laughing at the madly barking dog locked outside. Good point..When i bred birds my last dog guarded the aviaries and bird room from foxes and cats.. Surprising how many foxes and cats are around at night even in suburbia. Save Save
