  1. shutting down and hands behind back worked REALLY well for us.... and as soon as he stopped it was tug toy out as a reward.
  2. ..... come to think of it they are pretty freaky... but the last thing i want is him going nutz over some bald person walking around..jezz try explain that one!.. um... my dog is scared of bald people
  3. Gus has never gone off at his reflection or the tv so this is why I was a little suprised at the strong reaction he gave, they have no hair they are just bald heads with a straight stare.... just the look on his face was so god dam serious i was trying all sorts of things to distract him. Nala has seen them but Gus wasnt around, she doesnt react to much... except for possums and the dog next door (she was attacked by a possum as a pup and it took a good chunk out of her nose) but yes I just wanted to know if i handled it ok hahah nothing worse than encouraging the situation..... im going to try bring it out again today and see what he does with it..... The first time Gus reacted like this was around 6-8 months old and it was when leaves moved in the wind but i put that down to fear period and he got over it pretty quickly.
  4. I have two mannequin heads sitting on my working table I am a face painter part time and i use them to practice on,,, any who Gus was upstairs and noticed them.... I have NEVER seen him more scared of something he was barking furiously and very very unsure, any move that was made he would get worse and standing his ground kind of? kind of like a bow but not.... and he would not let me go near it every time i moved he was standing across my feet looking at the heads and just going nuts!! i tried to get close to the heads, and just touch them and not make a big deal out of them.... it didnt help so i walked away and tried to distract him with his squeaky toy... it took a while for him to break focus and play with me, then i tried again... he seemed a little better didnt start barking again... but it scared the day life out of me! did i do the right thing in terms of dealing with it? I really dont want him to ever do this to a person?
  5. could be a warped Dalmatian? but i +1 for pointer
  6. with me its the opposite, when OH is walking Gus his a gem... when i take the lead his a steam train
  7. That is GOLD!!! what idiots really? could you blame the dog he had like level 5billion destractions around... they should have started with 0 teddy bear distractions and worked their way up to a whole freaking store
  8. Nala decided she would kick Gus off the bed then use him as a pillow
  9. In my experience, they dont work with customs they work with Australia post, every time food has come through i have called customs and asked and they have said call Aus Post
  10. Mmm interesting, at what age do you consider someone experienced and knowledgable? 30? 40? 50? All dogs can fight and I would reckon even "experienced and knowledgable 40/50 year olds" would have a hard time pulling apart a pack of dominant breeds like these if they suddenly dislike one another :) Very sad to all involved I would just assume one who was knowledgeable and experienced with those breeds/foster dogs would be prepared for such an event..... ?

  12. Stranger things have happened. I read Someone say elsewhere (so unconfirmed) that she was minding one of the Presa's for someone else. If that was the case, particularly looking at the breeds involved I think it's pretty likely the new addition unbalanced the pack, a fight started and she bore the brunt of it trying to intervene. No matter what happened its just awful There's reference to her babysitting a friend's Presa in the news article I linked to. The count is 5 rescue dogs, 2 Presas and several other mixed breeds in the house. New dog to the pack may have been the trigger. There were some powerful dogs in that house. God, imagine how the friend is feeling. I question why a 23 year old has this many foster dogs to start with.... I mean its not like she would have a world of experience with a) fostering and b) those breeds I would assume one would need to be very experienced and knowledgeable about dogs, those breeds in general and fostering e.g. the types of dogs that can come in and how to manage that.
  13. I find it all a bit strange, but very sad never the less.
  14. are blankets and stuff ok ?? or does it have to be coats and bedding?
  15. Gus hated water at first, and we didnt know if he could swim, but OH threw him into the water and instinct kicked in... he paddled to the shore like a drowned otter... :) after that it was lots of positive association with water... usually me going in there with him.. now as soon as his off lead his in any form of water he can find paddling like a goose, but he won’t swim to far away from me he gets unsure if im not close.
  16. If it does you could sew it back on well it was a thought.... but that kid eats all sorts, I spotted him this morning thinking he was a giraffe, standing on his hind legs eating leaves and stuff from the tree.. bloody menace that dog!
  17. 12 months, lol... yea i know marvin isnt busted yet and he had both of them playing with him but rosie didnt survive Gus's enthusiasm
  18. Well Gus has eaten rosies arms ... hopefully this passes out the other end
  19. Aaaa they are a true pack structure lol....Gus gets quite intimidated by them
  20. Aww ok. I would love some small guys to come and play with my pint-sized pugs! When do you come back W Sibs, AND WHY HAVE I NEVER SEEN YOU THERE!! lol im there very saturday... and usually there all summer :)... Monash is EXCELLENT in the mornings now with the installation of the fence!! even though im pretty sure its not a dog park but its very appropriate. We go really random times.. but usually weekend around sunset time. I'm pretty sure we have bumped into each other and don't know it and we usually keep to ourselves at the park though. If you see a tall white guy or a small asian girl with a CKCS x (usually one of us is holding his tail so he can run or he is getting carried) and a Jap Spitz running around. Now, we have Skeeter the Samoyed puppy too... yeah, that's us. hahaha will watch out!, have you ever encountered the 3-4 standard poodles? flame and gang
  21. .... others have already said what I need too, I would give these "breeders" a miss.
