  1. Oh I'd happily bring my pugs up to play one day, but Max (my super water beach baby pug) would probably take off with Odie and leave Hank there with my other dog who just potters around quietly, and that would defeat the purpose
  2. Sky? I was trying for a variation on "notskye" but nothing worked
  3. Mine run to the front door when anyone on TV rings a doorbell (or an elevator dings). We don't have a doorbell, and have never lived anywhere with a doorbell... Are dogs hardwired to know doorbells mean someone at the front door?
  4. When I was looking for my pups I went directly to breeders websites via google. It was from there I discovered DOL, not the other way around.
  5. ... because he barks at his squeaky toy alligator trying to get it to play with him, then throws it around and does zoomies through the house on his own (I honestly think he believes it's going to chase him...) I love my little dope.
  6. Some dogs are fine with things and some can't even handle a tiny bit (as the dog who is seriously ill after macadamias shows ) I know dogs who are fine with grapes, and others who seriously sick from having only a few. I guess the hit and miss with reactions is why they say to avoid them altogether, rather than fins out your dog is one that has a fatal reaction.
  7. I have this image in my kitchen, but with my vets phone number and the emergency vets phone number (as it's an american poster), as a lot of people don't know about grapes or avocado etc
  8. Lol love the two rotties in the clam shell ! My two can't swim, being pugs they sink lime rocks, but at the beach they paddle up to their bellies and in the clam shell too. It's like they know they can't swim ad theyve never tried to go out too deep.
  9. Wouldn't it be between the owner and you to agree on in advance, when it comes to what you're paying for and what you're not?
  10. Neither would I. And yet, I've managed to raise 5 pups working full time whilst NEVER leaving a pup alone for so long. Its about the level of commitment you're prepared to make to a pup, not whether or not you work. God knows what some breeders think of those who raise litters while having full time jobs. That would classify as "special assistance", would it not? Hmm? I'd hardly call it special assistance, neither is taking a dog to work, or having work hours to suit the dog. It's life.
  11. Ours took weeks, doing it quickly won't be helpful if hes unsure, he'll just feel more unsure and more determined that you're trying to trick him into the evilness!
  12. One of mine loves the beach, but hated the clamshell pool and would bark at it and not go near it. One day I sat in it, with the other dog that loved it. I played with him and gave him treats and if Max came over to investigate I gave her a treat, but otherwise ignored her. It took ages, but eventually curiosity got the better of her and she jumped up on the side. I just kept doing this, adding her favourite toys to the pool and throwing them for her while I was sitting in it, treating when bought it back close to the Water Them I started throwing the toy in the Water and making here bring it back, and she'd jump in quickly and get it. Lots of praise and treats lol. Now she goes in and splashes around and Boston wishes we never let her in to his quiet pool
  13. are you saying you can take your pup to work with you? If so, how does that tie in with the original topic about baby pups being left home alone all day The sweeping generalization that those who work leave their puppies home alone to rot and then dump them is how.
  14. I work, so I guess my puppy was just left alone all day with no interaction or company or training or socialisation. Or maybe she was from a breeder who lived in the real world. Thats her all work with me. All lonely and neglected as her mother works.
  15. If He's in the laundry when you go out, as well as when you're playing with him He's probably bored shitless of the same environment and would love some new scenery. Plus the rest area and play area are the same place. Why not supervised play in the yard, at least?
  16. Maybe Jed should have posted this rant at the people it was aimed at, not on a dog forum full of educated dog people?
  17. Why don't you read the rules to check? You ticked to say you'd read them when you signed up here :)
  18. How do you know what People do with their dogs, you discount them as soon as you hear the words "work full time".
  19. Thanks, such a charming response. Can't you read either? Bye bye Best laugh I've had all day.
  20. you assume people who don't work are home all day, every day? What planet do you live on, I'd like to visit one day. It seems whacky and insane.
  21. What do you predict this dog would turn out like in that situation? Because I can show you an awful lot that don't meet whatever odd standard you've set in your head, mine included.
  22. What about a martingale? She's probably used to one, being a showy. Otherwise, train her to use what you want her to use, as you would a young pup.
  23. it's more than sad it's disgusting and the kind of day you really don't want to be known as a "breeder" and lumped in the basket with them I have to agree. It is sad. Having read through this whole thread in my opinion it is cruel to just do a c section and leave the bitch with nothing. Yes I know, it happens that puppies can be delivered dead and the bitch ends up with no babies to rear but in this circumstance that is not the case. I don't agree with what has happened but obviously our opinions are only that. Opinions. At the end of the day it is the breeders decision. I bet the breeder isn't the one who is now dealing with the mother and the fallout from taking the pup from her.
  24. Unfortunately those pretty statistics don't stop dogs being dumped, nor do they help those dogs. It just glosses over the "bad stuff" and says "but look, good stuff happens which means the bad stuff doesn't really matter".
