  1. I shouldn't, I really shouldn't. My dogs still haven't been given all the toys I ordered for them last year in the free shipping blitz
  2. Jumping in here - I make my own raw mix in bulk, about a months worth and freeze it. We have a dedicated dog food freezer full of chicken necks, frames and raw mix (which is charming when you're a vegetarian  )
  3. My budget is frowning as I don't think I can spend $200, so if anyone in Sydney is looking to combine an order to reach $200 free shipping let me know.
  4. One of my Pugs has just as much energy as a big dog. It's 9.30pm and she's still up playing ball in the hallway
  5. You don't have to go far out of the city for places with backyards. Even the bottom of the Anzac bridge is a suburb with houses and yards, and that's a 5 min walk to the city.
  6. You lost a pup to parvo, and then bought another pup into the same house/yard
  7. talk to Andisa ... she has Pugs and Rotts ;)
  8. Breeders can sign up to supply new puppy owners with a few weeks free, but not individuals.
  9. For who? I imagine she would have been in some pain.
  10. My puppy is two and I still don't get that kind of sleep
  11. Maybe show her threads like this: http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/238882-sick-border-collie-pup/ If she's wanting to rush into a pup from petshop/BYB/any old place that doesn't bother with health testing or care about the breed.
  12. I met Max when she lept out of the crate at the airport, and I'd seen photo's of the whole litter and individual pups but didn't know which was mine. At first I had doubts that it was anything but a random choice from the breeder, and I still have doubts that much thought was put into matching her to my lifestyle etc as she's sort of the opposite of what I told the breeder I was looking for, personality wise. But I love her to bits and we've adapted - but it took a long time for us both to settle in as she's manic and super high energy and on the go constantly, and super smart. Boston on the other hand, was picked for me by his breeder (different breeder to Max) and he suits me and Max perfectly. He's the opposite of Max, so compliments her energy with quietness, but loves to play and snuggle. I met "him" when he was a week old, but didn't know which one he was, and they all looked the same then anyway
  13. Possibly a very naive question, but how does a potential puppy buyer finds a breeder like you and establish a rapport? I found in my breed (relatively common), the "top" breeders breed first for themselves (I.e. To produce potential show prospects) and sell to the pet market those deemed less outstanding. When it comes to selling those, I've found there was no real personality matching and more often than not they claim their dogs are very adaptable, will suit lots of different situations etc. Most of the breeders I spoke to didn't really seem to think in terms of different personalities/temperament within a litter. You contact them and communicate. It's actually simple, yet so many over-think and over-complicate it. If you don't feel a rapport, or you don't feel they are able to match you suitable and are just picking randomly or whatever, search until you feel comfortable.
  14. Fliss is really lovely. You'll probably find her in the pug thread. She's not been on DOL forever, but [email protected] is her email oh damn that's a shame. She's a very nice and helpful person She is, and she makes great cuddly babies that love to sleep on your head and snore their little hearts out
  15. I went to Fliss initially with the thought of getting a girl, and in no time she had me convinced a boy was the way to go - and I have no regrets (I already had a girl, so I have one of each). She has the most cuddly boys, and they won me over instantly

  17. Yes, talk to Fliss, in the very very very immediate sense :p
  18. That's how my grandmother pronounces it and I cringe. Even if it's correct, it just sounds horrid ... like an old car
  19. I think you buy those Belgium Shepherds from the same kennel as the Burmese Mountain Dogs, right?. Yes they have Dashhounds too! Actually, that's another one that I hear multiple pronunciations on. My Nan has a dachshund and the way she pronounces it drives me nutty, but I've heard several ways. So, phonetic pronunciation of dachshund, anyone?
  20. 7. The Scream - Many Tollers have a penetrating scream which they produce to indicate excitement and eagerness. To the uninitiated, this can sound like the dog is being fed into a wood chipper; I'm not sure what I'd do if my dog shrieked like that, I'm jumpy at the best of times
  21. Luckily it's the pups face and not his butt in the kids face
  22. Training to use the crate is also more effective than just shutting in the crate, especially if pup isn't happy about being on there :)
  23. Sounds like crate training is in order.
