  1. The Basset at my local park gets his long ears banged up and dirty and scratched just from romping around on the grass and cement, I'd hate to see them after bashing through the bush.
  2. Just followed you. I mostly post pug and dragon boat photos :p
  3. My guys love watermelon, and they just poop the seeds out whole if there are any (most watermelon we get seems to have hardly any seeds these days anyway). They aren't a fan of the skin or the white bits though, they like the tasty parts only
  4. SASH and ARH are 24hr vets, whereas not many others are (or are not widely advertised as such) so it's good to know they are there, regardless of cost.
  5. It looks like you need to have a council permit to breed, so if they don't they could get pinged for that
  6. Can you link to this new rule, I've not seen it and can't find anything about it?
  7. Oh, I'm a bit literal sometimes  I took it literally when she said: In reading a pedigree, I would much rather know whether there were patterns of early death from cancer, or long lives, or much euthanasia for behavioral problems, than whether hip or elbow Xrays were good.
  8. This says they should be not that they must be so its not enforceable That's for the acquisition of sale (for pet shops), so they can't (should't) buy them before they are 8 weeks. The breeder guidelines says: The holder of the permit must not sell an animal of a litter which is a dog, or otherwise dispose of the dog, unless the dog is at least eight- weeks-of age
  9. I guess if it's information to go on a pedigree the "pet" homes aren't required, but then not getting all the stats will give inaccurate data so therefore it's pointless. Honestly it's not something I'd want on a pedigree (died: car accident, or died: cancer. no thanks) but if keeping the stats were practical then it would be handy. But I don't think it is practical as reporting a dogs cause and date of death to be kept on file is hardly a priority after losing a loved pet.
  10. Call local vets for the lowdown on what ticks are like, but I'd definitely be tick-protecting year round just due to the general bushiness of the area. Can't really help with personal vet recommendations in the area.
  11. You've only contacted the breeder via email? Why would you not pick up the phone and just call them, especially if they didn't reply to your email
  12. Adorable! Finn looks rather unimpressed
  13. A google search bought up the answer for me in the first hit: Minimum age of animals for acquisition for sale, subject to maturity, should be: (i) dogs—eight weeks (seven weeks for large breeds) (ii) cats—eight weeks http://www.daff.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0015/60126/QldCodeOfPracticeForPetShops.pdf http://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/documents/bf/breeder-code-practice(1).pdf Breeders can't sell until they are 8 weeks either, according to the second link which won't let me copy and paste the quote.
  14. I worry about the ones with gel/substances in them in case the pups get a bit rough with their teeth or claws and break them and eat whatever chemicals are in them :/ I have the cool mats that you wet then wring out and they stay cool for hours - this one. The pugs don't like it if it's tooooo wet (weirdos, they love water!) but will drag it around and lay where it was, thus having a cooler floor to lay on
  15. Of course she snores, she's a bulldog  I have two pugs that sleep with me (usually one on my head) and now I can't sleep without their freight train noises, so you do get used to it. If you're worried about earplugs and not hearing her, maybe schedule based training is the way to go, that way you set the time she goes to the bathroom, she doesn't. But when she cries and you coming and give her attention it may encourage the crying, so pup in crate in your room with snuggly safe toys and out to bathroom a few times a night with no excessive interaction could be the way to a good on-going routine :)
  16. Stepping outside Western Sydney (you won't catch anything, I promise!), but try All Natural Vet Care at Russell Lea, not sure of the price but since they regularly titre test they probably have more reasonable prices than those that don't often do it.
  17. I'm not 100% sure of the difference? They are an impound facility (so, pound), not a rescue, if that's what you mean. http://sydneydogsandcatshome.org/
  18. This is not a baby puppy - I'm not sure of the point you're trying to make Jed. That one unhappy dog in different circumstances to the original point proves the point, and all the evidence given that refutes the point doesn't count
  19. One of the poodles has been adopted, so can't be too high for some people. Heaps cheaper than a designer dog from a backyard breeder, and the parentage and background is just as known as from those circumstances and people pay thousands for them.
  20. That article makes it sound like they recommend roo meat based not so much the benefit to the dog, but the fact that Australia has so many roos that culling them for pet meat is the best way to reduce the numbers
  21. Can't imagine much in Parra, that's mostly high-rise apartment style hotels
  22. Penrith area: some say "pets on condition" so maybe contact them, others are fine if you have a trailer http://www.penrithvalley.com.au/uploadedFiles/Penrith_Valley/Olympic_Memories/Pet%20Friendly%20Accommodation%202013.pdf
  23. Gary is an awesome name
  24. I can't do that weekend (Chinese New Year dragon Boat races), but have fun guys :)
