  1. I'd be training him not to do that to the cat before he accidently kills her Perhaps keeping puppy on a leash around the cat, so immediate corrections can be made, and lots of treating when he displays appropriate behaviour (whatveer you want that to be, ignoring perhaps?). You probably can't use a bitter taste deterrant on a cat as that's not fair on the cat, but it sounds like he needs to learn very quickly that the cat is not a play toy. Does the puppy know what "no" means? When you growl no, do you also remove him from the situation and direct him to something more appropriate?
  2. Anyone have stats on how many pedigree Malts bred in the last few years, just out of curiosity?
  3. We do have a way to separate them thats why we had no issues with the cat but we will continue to help the breed and we will continue to rescue when we get moved and settled. Life threw a curveball we dealt with it and kept the dogs safe. We had networked before getting the dogs so we did have support from other rescues and one has made the decision to help us and we are very grateful for that. This is a good rescue that didnt feel the need ot down us to make them feel better about themselves. We would never not do right by the dogs. No one is downing you, but it is a good lesson on the "cover all your bases and think before you leap" - which everyone tried to get you to listen to, but you were too stubborn to accept. In hindsite, if you had listened to the advice of the wise, experienced rescuers you could have started off your rescue in your new place and had a fantastic first experience, not one that started on the wrong foot and gave the wrong impression to the rescue world, like this.
  4. Next he'll be out getting a clicker to train you
  5. Lucky has been moved on as well as Ina. As in they found permanent home already? no Oh, we'll I guess she was just fostering them, despite loud protestations to the contrary!

  7. Sorry, however, this is a bit of a generalisation. Mine's nothing super-human in the Pug department, but can do all of the above plus Obedience, Rally and gain an 20km Endurance Title.. It's just that they're generally not owned by dog sport folk :) Yes, of course it's a generalisation, we are talking about an entire breed of dog LOL
  8. Uh, they are not built for the job, physically or temprament wise! As HW said, even a we'll bred pug would struggle in the breathing department during an agility run. Plus have you ever tried to get a pug to go in a tunnel or over a jump when it didn't want to? They are the most stubborn creatures, and for no reason will often decide to forget what that piece of equipment is for. Trust me, pugs are not built for agilty!
  9. The tone of your posts suggest you don't think very highly of the SBT. That's o'k, not everyone likes every breed. But you comments regarding height to weight show you don't know enough about the breed to comment on them at all. Look & learn. Kinda have to agree here. (And so glad someone put up the clip of my old breed club :)) I was just about to say - what Staffords have you been observing Haredown Whippets? :) Height to weight? Really? :) I can name several Staffords that have gained top agility titles. But I have to agree with Sandra777. A Stafford probably wouldn't be the best choice in this particular case. Did you listen to the commentary? That was very interesting. Most, if not all dogs live in multi dog homes, & not just staffies only homes. What would be of interest to the O.P. is one lives with a dobermann & two chihuahuas, interesting combination. Another was usually handled by an eleven year old girl who was unavailable on that day. As a staffy person you must have been impressed by Mouse, the white boy with the black eye patch. He has junior warrants in both agility & conformation. A little girl, Mia from memory, is a member of GB's agility team. Not bad for a breed ''unsuitable'' for agility. There was a couple of oldies in there also, both past ten. Bloody marvellous. Plus three or four rescues. I know pugs with agility titles too, doesn't mean every pug is suitable for agility. Same in this situation. Just because some staffys have titles and are suitable, doesn't mean they all are.
  10. Grapes are the other main no-go fruit, other than that it's pretty much fine to give them most fruits.
  11. +1 Nothing wrong with a good old phone number on a tag, 99% of people can use it, as opposed to limiting the amount of people who can contact you, or at least making them go back home to plug details into their computer.
  12. If dinner is 3am, what time is brekky? Not every dog is fed twice a day. None of mine are once they are adults. I once got home, walked the dogs and got tied up in a busy night. Went to bed at 1100 and wondered why a couple of dogs tummies were rumbling. Then it hit me - I'd forgotten to feed them. No way would Ted let me get away with that now. He barks if he thinks its dinner time. Ah of course. I'm so used to pugs who would actually chew their own leg off if they only got fed once a day
  13. If dinner is 3am, what time is brekky?
  14. yep ..and the chewing releases endorphins to make them feel good :) Yep, ditch the rice and add something useful if you want to make them feel Fuller.
  15. Weekdays the pugs get fed at 6.30am when i get up, so come weekends when I don't have to get up, their tummy alarm clock still goes off at 6.30 so Max sits on my head licking my ear till I wake up
  16. My 10kg pug gets 150g homemade raw mix for brekky and half a chicken carcass for dinner. I don't put nearly that much veggies in mine though, mines about 80/20 meat to veggie, even less veggie probably. And no rice. Veggie is already a filler, I wouldn't add another. How to you prepare the veggies? All mine are pulverized through the juicer.
  17. Instead of focusing on the cute ones who aren't near their due date (which reeks of PR) why aren't you promoting the ones due to be PTS?
  18. And the dogs they're advocating are the poor leftover Amstaffy types from Blacktown Pound (where many rescues will have already assessed them). Yep, sure, everyone should get a 30kg Amstaff for their random Christmas present. Maybe I should give one to my sister, surely it will get on ok with her Iggy and three cats and all the visiting foster kids! I have so much sympathy for these dogs but more for the unsuspecting adopters who believe the sales pitch! Apparently you should give two to your sister, as they say make it a baby boy and girl! So, please everyone go and pick two random dogs from the pound and hope they get along with not only the existing family members, but each other too
  19. Hmm, I have something on that arvo, but I can come for a few hours!
  20. TDierikx has claimed first cuddle rights! She's given us a collar, some puppy-sized soft toys and a loan of her crate already :) I am serious about having a DOL meet-up at my place - maybe February? Any inner westies, south westies, nice Lab owners, well-behaved dogs and dog-friendly kids. NINE SLEEPS TO GO I'd be in! I'm sure my manic pugs could be considered well behaved, on some planet
