  1. It sold out, so maybe she'll think about comin back and including other states next time? I'll suggest it :)
  2. So who's going to the Turid Rugaas seminar in Perth this weekend? Anyone?
  3. Tibetan spaniel - gay, assertive, intelligent and aloof with strangers. I think their gait and gaze gives off that perfectly haha!
  4. If you don't mind, could you please PM me the street to avoid? We are moving in a couple of months, I no longer feel safe in this area, it seems to have changed so much in just a few years
  5. Omg!! Hope you are ok?! Sorry to ask questions when you are trying to forget it, but was this in your suburb? I live close and have had a few times when I haven't felt comfortable and I have lots of friends who also walk locally a lot. Scary stuff
  6. Which servos had the 1080 pirate? Was it well signposted?
  7. Yep, I used to have GSD's and I walk a lot of bully breeds for the shelter I vollie at and am very aware of keeping distance. Usually I put the dog in a sit somewhere to the edge (where we aren't penned in so can cross the road if we need) and feed lots of treats, regardless of the peoples reactions. That way they are getting positive reinforcement for people walking past in all sorts of strange ways (friendly, screaming lol). It is so annoying when parents let kids run up to strange dogs I also have a JRT x and the reaction towards her has surprised me (oh those dogs are vicious, aren't they?! Um, no?!)
  8. At a local dog park my tibbie x boy (so small fluffy) was sniffing the bushes around the edge of the ground (we were walking around the park as it was quite busy). A group of young 20 something's walked through from the local Tafe. A Japanese girl (I only say this to explain why she didn't understand what I said/the area) looked down, Chewy looked up, then she started screaming and waving her arms whilst jumping up and down. The poor thing was petrified. Chewy ran straight back to me (as startled as she was) and I picked him up but approached her just to try and explain it was a dog park and there were lots of dogs in the direction she was going. Unfortunately I was too late as the screaming/jumping had attracted a lot of the more excitable dogs in the park who had run up barking.. The people with her grabbed her and got her out of the park whilst I shoo'd away the dogs I could and called their owners to get them. It was over quickly and nothing actually happened but it made me realise how extreme some peoples fears are - and how it can put them at risk : /
  9. Just a note - please be careful around Kal as they do 1080 bait quite a lot out that way.
  10. The dog was at the vet as it had been surrendered to the rescue by the sounds of it. Just glad the dog is healthy and happy again.
  11. Oh wow, he is lovely.... I don't blame you for considering keeping him, what a boy!
  12. That's good advice. And look very closely at the fine print re pets.... or ask a question about something that might be taken for granted. For example, some retirement villages state it's fine for people to move in with their already existing dog. Pets welcome, they say. But what's not necessarily said.... or perhaps is included in fine print somewhere... if that dog dies, the person cannot get a new dog while resident in the village. That happened to people I heard of ... to their surprise & distress. Re the OP's question. There's a perfect example of a young, sweet-natured, clean, calm Tibetan Spaniel boy, Oliver, for adoption from Foster Dogs Rescue in the ACT. Has pedigree papers, surrendered at only 18 months because of ill-health of owner. His foster-carer has introduced him, with pic, on the Tibbie Breed forum ... with a glowing assessment. Pity this lad isn't in WA. But he is a great example of a close companion breed that would likely fit a situation described by the OP. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/106775-tibetan-breeds-lhasa-apsos-tibetan-spaniels/page__st__1560 If he was in WA he would currently be on my lap haha!
  13. I'm biased, but it could lol! Also there are a couple of breeders in WA. 'Come when called' - hmmm, this takes a LOT of proofing with tibs, it does with all dogs, but their independant nature means that if they are sniffing something/someone exciting you have to offer a whole lot more to get them to come. Also their coat may not be ideal for a beach dog, and I haven't heard of many that live swimming. Other than that they are perfect :)
  14. I'm so sorry Run free little man
  15. Haha - you sound like me! Don't forget pavlova though!
  16. The coffee is good - the lemon slice is amazing! Chewy has come along with me and had a pup cake :) Be warned - you will leave broke lol! They have amazing collars, leads and beds (snuggle pods!) as well as lifejacks etc :)
  17. Thanks. Too far for the group I was thinking of I'm afraid. Good luck and thanks for helping him.
  18. Thanks TT, It wasn't Yokine, but I live right next to Yokine, which is the one you are referring to as I wouldn't mine checking it out ? This one was Les Lillyman reserve in North Perth This one is very close to Les Lillyman - about 2 mins away! It's called Yokine Reserve and is huge - pretty much four multi use fields (sports and on the weekend model aircraft) with a path around them all. There is also supposedly a fenced in dog park near by (city of Stirling may have it on web page) but no one seems to know about it so I doubt it'll be busy. Maybe you'll get the place to yourself :) Thanks TT, I think I know the one you are talking about, just didn't know the name. It is quite funny you say no one seems to know because I was in City of Stirling a few weeks ago paying Ronin's rego and I asked if there was any fenced in dog parks in Stirling and she said there weren't and then added, wouldn't that be dangerous for the dogs to be fenced in? Maybe I will explore this further, please let me know if you hear any more about it. I just checked the Stirling website and it's on there (lol - guess the lady you spoke to doesn't usually work on the dog area ; p) http://www.stirling.wa.gov.au/resident/services/animals-and-pets/dogs/pages/dog-exercise-areas-and-beaches.aspx
  19. Urgh! It must also be so hard to work with reactive dogs that need to be muzzled by law. As well as the idiot comments I imagine you also can't use treats easily due to the muzzle?
