We wanted to do a beach walk by the other day but Gus was in a puppy coma, they come on as suddenly as they go so we gave it a miss. (after his puppy highness scored us free coffee at the cafe we went for breakie. The waitress made us coffees just so she had an excuse to come cuddle him again, by her own admission. Score!) I can't wait to let him have a play in the sand and do all the doggy things! We're doing lots to wear the little sucker out. He's easier to watch and less toothy when he's pooped. He's not bad on lead either, aside from the stopping to expect people to love him up. Hilarious and it works, will start bribing him forwards with treats and doing some laps around the front yard. I agree with the nerves thing. It's astonishing. TBH we've always had pound pups or dogs that have just sorta shown up, we had one PB English Setter as kids but it's so much different than I remember, I have this cocky, bright, funny, smart little monster on my hands and he just loves everyone and is game to tackle anything head on. I am in awe and he's a real advert for anyone who pulls the 'adopt not shop' rubbish. He's the ideal example of why I made the choices I made. Also, I don't know if I've said, Willow is BEAUTIFUL. I will keep an eye out for her name in lights ;)

Sorry to butt in - Gus is gorgeous by the way - i always take my puppies out and say 'do wees' before they are doing anything, then once they start i am quiet and when they are finished i say 'yay good wees' it works for me and mine, and all mine will go to the loo on command, i say 'do wees' and they go and do a wee That's been working so far, he's a gem. Will already squeeze out a drop on command if I ask and he's just gone ten mins ago. Will do anything for a bit of liver treat, so it seems! Today we've had the door open for the cats and he's taken himself out twice and done a wee on the decking. Totally awesome. I won't complain if I have to hose it off, once he's a bit bigger and sure footed the steps will be easier to navigate. He's mastered sitting and we're working on stay and come next. Leave it is getting a working on too. Puppy school starts on the 17th, we'll show 'em ;) It's like he's been sent as a breed ambassador, some higher puppy being was like 'right, these are first timers. Your job is to win them over. Go forth and woo those suckers!' We also solved the waking up at 4:30-5am thing, he has dinner at 10 and today we got up at 7 and I can not express my joy at a sleep in. Haha. He met his 'grandma' (my mum) the other day and she adored him and put her hand up for babysitting duties, my best friend is 'popping by' for a cup of tea later too, she's called shotgun on Aunty position. Very funny. He's the communal puppy, and does he love it! We went for a walk around the gardens in the city yesterday, I carried him (good heavens did my arms ache!) and everyone wanted a pat so by the end he was just leaning his head backward into groups of people walking by expecting his pats. Shameless! That's my update! She really is, by the way! They both are!

Our 8 week old guy just got here from SA to VIC and he got out of the crate, covered us strangers in kisses, fell asleep on my OH's lap all the way home, walked in the door and cleaned the cat bowls out. I think I can safely say he remains unaffected...Haha.

A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy

Boy do we have the naughties today! Tried to eat a pair of glasses, a cup of water, the cup AFTER the water went all over the floor and Gus paddled in it, slippers both on and off my feet, my kale plant, the laptop, the blanket on the couch and his own feet. One would think he doesn't have enough toys... I got so cranky when he was up at 5, I really really wanted that extra hour or so, but who could stay mad? Did get him to sleep from 4-5 by giving him breakie though. He passed right out after. Might try giving him dinner later and keeping him busy before bed tonight. I was thinking for sure last night he'd break his good streak but so far so good. -
I love borders too! When they both misbehave we can do a swap! Very good night last night. Bit silly before bed and a long time to settle down. Lots of harrassment of my feet and jeans and an attempt to climb ON the coffee table for a leftover liver treat. Bit of work on clicker conditioning and a game of tug with a ribbon and he crashed. Put him to bed at 9. Up for a wee at 1, He woke up and said enough is enough at 4:30. Other than that not a peep. Haven't missed a wee yet either. I am on a roll!
-
He seems to be able to stop just fine! Still, doing well so far! Have the other half taking him out now. Respite.
-
He's already quite enamored with my slippers and everything he can get his little gob on, but if we can keep up such consistent wins with the wees that's a good start. I feel like I might be interrupting his wee with the 'do your wee' command. Should I be asking that after? Everything I've read says as the behaviour you want is happening you give the command, and then treat after. He tends to stop when I ask for the wee to occur. But I guess it makes sure he needs to go an hour later when I take him out again....IDK.

He just wasn't as excited as I was, retrospectively though that's a pretty high bar...Haha. -

I just adore him. I was worrying Brooke, the OH wasn't as excited as me and I was thinking perhaps he just didn't have the heart to tell me so but had a feeling he would meet him and be madly in love. Spot on, as soon as he laid eyes on him he melted and has been cuddling him since, even if he smells of pee (puppy, not boyfriend...) He had to drag himself into the office and has been checking in by text since he left. Haha. -

I'm one of you guys now! Thought I would never graduate! Haha. -
We're off to a good start with 3 pees and a poop outside, now asleep cuddling his ducky. So quiet! We are so thrilled, was starting to think it would never get here!
-
Oh my god he's gorgeous! We're so in love! Landed safe and happy, got out of the car at home, played some rudimentary fetch in the yard and did a big piddle, now settling down with a meaty bone to keep him busy while I have a shower. He's so funny! First thing he did when he came inside was to clean the cat bowls and run into the flywire door. They came out on their trolley and he was yelling his little head off, the other two were dead silent but he was carrying right on haha. I think we're gonna call him Gus. Brooke is absolutely in love with him!

3 hours to go! Wonder how many hours I can waste playing tetris? My cleaning started at 7...
-
I love them, I seriously considered one for my grandma but would quietly like one myself. They're so sweet! Nah! I don't have THAT much of a life. Haha.
-
Course I will! Especially if the OH takes off to work and leaves me, we'll be photo city! Hahaha. Oh didn't mean to put anyone off! Just thought it was an interesting train of thought, we've never had trouble and I quite like them, but goes to show everyone has reasons for and against, I guess!
-
I don't know if I can stuff anything too major today. End of the week is quiet here but time sure does drag! I'm going to see grandma for a cup of tea tonight and whip up a sumptuous bacon and egg dinner at home. Partying hard on our last night of freedom.

20 and 1/4 hours. It's like Xmas morning as a kid. Will tuck myself into bed early and sleep it out.
-
I wouldn't worry too much. I think the number of them out there vs number of disasters is probably in our favour. Touch wood!
-
Oh yeah, would be a supervised toy, but most are TBH. I have never had a problem, thank heavens! Here's hoping they don't start now. Did get a few very cool rope balls, they look good for little teeth.
-
We've got heaps of rope toys and one over excited person told me rope toys were bad bad bad because they break down so easy and threads could be swallowed. I hadn't even thought of that, but have never had a problem before and hey, rope is probably better swallowed than rubber and plastic? We've got a lot of both, but I personally love the rope toys and won't be giving those suckers up!
-
Yeah, I think I might do the same. We have one very food obsessed shih-tzu at mum's place, so can always hand down the little ones haha. She drives mum mad with them though, to the point where we were in a pet shop last weekend and she spotted some on the wall and refused to walk out of the store unaided HAHA. Monster!
-
I was thinking the puppy kong for us, no doubt he'll be a tough little chewer but something with a bit of give might be better for teething? Will probably get one of each though, can't hurt.
-
Crying quietly in a corner at the prospect of cleaning up? Hahaha.

Mine works from home so it's a perpetual mess. What I wouldn't give for an empty house for a week or so....

Unde 24 hours now ;)
