  1. I also use the Skudo and find them very effective but I also check her every day
  2. I give my Cavalier the vanilla flavoured Jalna. She gets a teaspoon every morning :D and likes it off the spoon
  3. My girl is always on cranberry tablets. She hasn't had a UTI for nearly 3 years
  4. I find that pain meds and anti inflammatories don't help my girl if she has trigger points.
  5. My girl has a similar pattern of lameness I found that anti inflammatories did not help at all as the problem was muscular. Trigger point therapy is the thing that helps her most, along with acupuncture. It took us many months to find an answer...it is very frustrating
  6. I used to see a Staffy with a cart around my area on the North Shore in Sydney. I couldn't catch it, I think it was made by a vet at Epping but don't know the name of the surgery. It was very happy in it.
  7. I have the same breed but a different colour. It took me a year before I was ready for another dog. The girls have very similar temperaments and the same quirks but are still different. If you like the breed I' d go with it
  8. It stays really cool for a good couple of days but this is inside. I liked the crystal ones because they are easy to move. I also use it in the car. With the a/c and the mat she is always comfy She feels the heat really badly and also has a throat issue,so this suits her really well
  9. Ollie dog used to have one like that (I think we got it from the markets)... You just soaked it in the laundry tub for a few minutes and the crystal swelled up. He used to lay on it all the time in summer... That's it. It stays cool for a long time and has a cotton cover
  10. I have had one made by a fellow DOLer( using the crystals) and my Cavalier absolutely loves it She was also given one of the expensive Silver Eagle ones and won't go near it
  11. Liebhunde, I was wondering if you could please PM me with the details? TIA
  12. I would consider anal glands. They don't always smell really rotten My girl gets very restless when they need expressing. If they are infected or leaking then they smell revolting
  13. My Cavalier was diagnosed with a liver tumour and unfortunately 6 weeks later i had to give let her pass. She did not have any treatment as she was 11 and had other issues and there were no guarantees. I let her have whatever she wanted to eat, she did whatever she wanted, slept wherever took her fancy and we went on lots of car trips :) She was Ok for nearly 6 weeks. Then one day she was a bit " off" and I took vet but they coudn't find anything out of the ordinary.I went out that night and had somebody watch her. They called me at 11.30 and I rushed her to the emergency vet. The tumour was pressing on her heart and they couldn't get rid of the fluid. I spent all night with her and about 5.30am she looked at me with her big brown eyes and said enough is enough. I could have kept going with the treatment but it wasn't fair on her as it was very invasive. She was in my arms when they helped her to the bridge. It was very quick and it was incredible the sense of peace and relief that came over her little face. The only thing i regret is that I would have preferred to be at home when she would have been surrounded by her favourite things. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do but I had to do it to repay all the love that she had given me. I think about her every day and that was nearly 10 years ago. She was the first dog I had as an adult and I was 30years old! I'm sorry this is such a long post but I can really understand where you are at and I know you will the make the right decision for your little one
  14. I give my girl with HD, an evening primrose oil capsule every day. This was on the advice of a chiropractic vet and seems to work well
  15. My Cavalier was continually getting UTI's. She had an ultrasound and no stones but lots of struvite crystals and a PH of 9.3 I commenced her on Cranberry tablets and 2 weeks later she was back to normal. That was 2 years ago and she has ben fine It's horrible to see them sufferring. We must have been very lucky that we were able to get rid of them so easily
  16. My girl has 10mg of Losec once a day. The vet gives me a scipt and I buy it at the cheap pharmacy Works very well for her.
  17. I use the Skudo. I found that the Shoo tag didn't work and was more intrusive than the Skudo
  18. I have used mine for 5 years and have never had a problem. A friend who is a landscope gardener, swears by the human one. Nothing is 100% reliable and I still check every night
  19. I bought one from my local pharmacy, another one from Petbiz and another one from the local plant nursery
  20. Is it the Shoo tag? I found it useless I have put a Skudo on her and found it great. I live in a very high tick infestation area and she hasn't had one yet..fingers crossed!!!! But I do check her every night!
  21. My dog gets very restless, especally after the evening meal. She doesn't scoot, lick or smell but finds it hard to settle
