  1. Soothie I had to cage my 3 year old BC for that length of time after a patella surgery - she coped much better then I did with the process.
  2. Poke westiemum - Jumabaar does visit Adelaide fairly frequently. Her next visit is currently planned for the 5th and 6th of August LOL. She was last here about 2 months ago. Who else do you think I have found to keep my broken dog happy.
  3. I sent you a message RuralPug - looks like the sticker has a home. I also have a Dogzonline lanyard thing if anybody is interested. I don't even know how or why I have them.
  4. You actually reminded me I have one sitting in a draw if anybody would like it.
  5. Would definitely recommend an appointment with Jumabaar if at all possible. She has made a huge difference to my girl after her multiple ortho issues when I had just about lost faith in having her even take a simple walk around the block. We have made huge progress since her input :).
  6. I had no issues finding a vet here Lira was given the Nobivac vaccination.
  7. Some vets also give a vaccination at 10 weeks which is designed to cover them with no third vaccination.
  8. Second talking to Primal Paws. Could you consider a cheaper pain relief medication then Previcox? Not sure what side dog you have but I get a larger dose of Rimadyl and buy them 60 at a time through an online pharmacy and it works out much cheaper for me. 60 of the larger tablets last my girl 120 days.
  9. You could always take the two dogs to the Noahs Crossing vaccination day - C5 for $45 per dog. C3 is $25. Stebonheath Dog park - Davoren Road, Andrews Farm - Sunday 28th of May 11am - 3pm. No bookings and payment is Cash.
  10. Noahs were doing a discount vaccination day at a dog park so I was thinking they might be cheaper for vaccinations. Blakes Crossing seems to get a good rap for pricing by friends out that way to. Again don't know about a discount for multi vaccinations.
  11. Any of the breeders vets might - Noahs Crossing but Lewiston might be a little far? Adelaide plains?
  12. Mitcham council did give a trained dog discount ($10) for completing a certain grade at obedience training. Great in theory but once I went through the local club grades with my first dog and started trialling (she got a CDX and was trialling in UD) there was no way I was going to put subsequent dogs through the classes just to get the discount. I had so much baggage to undo from having had long boring class heelwork drilled into her. My subsequent dogs are trained to the same level but I don't get a discount because they never got their obedience club certificate. This was despite one dog having a CD title which is a much higher standard then what is required to graduate a club and plenty of other titles in other dog sports. My current youngster isn't ready for competition obedience because we have been focusing on other sports like herding and tracking.
  13. If you read the information contained within the link provided it only says that the mandatory desexing is part of the Act so it will need to take any requirements under the Act into consideration. There are other ways the DCMB will enable an exemption to the desexing and one of these is with a letter from a vet. Easy fixed if you can find a vet who is happy to draft a letter advising a different age for desexing (and not all vets are insistent on dogs being desexed by 6 months). I have a young performance girl who is just over 2 years who is not yet desexed. I have no intention of breeding her but she is on mains register and its my intention to desex her in the near future however she was certainly kept entire for health reasons. Yet another example of a council trying to scare people into acting with lots of misinformation. The DCMB really need to increase education on the new proposals so correct information is being shared among various key stakeholders rather than a whole lot of misinformation. The new law only applies to new dogs not to current dogs so i am doubtful that councils could insist on anything regarding current dogs.
  14. I don't really have an answer but noticed your in NSW and if this is indeed the case - I took one of my girls over from SA to Dr Christine Hawke a specialist dental vet many years ago now. - http://www.sydneypetdentistry.com.au/ She was super helpful and friendly and happy to have a phone conversation with me and discuss possible options. If your after a specialist I can highly recommend her.
  15. Mine get fed twice a day and one at the moment is actually being fed more like 3-4 times a day to try and get weight back on.
  16. Different people have different experiences with a breeder. Asking other breeders for recommendations is a good way to go. I have bought 2 puppies from interstate - one I had met the breeder and some of her dogs and one I had never met the breeder personally or her dogs but friends had. Very different experiences with both of them.
  17. Oh lol you must have got a BC brittany hahahaha - May my brothers doesn't really have an off-switch compared to what I am use to in my BCs.
  18. My brother recently got a Brittany. Worth a look - they are on the smaller side of things and I definitely think she would make an awesome agility and/or obedience dog. Super smart and quick to learn.
  19. I used an artificial toilet in my girls puppy pen for the first few months. I found the best bet was go to bunnings and get your own turf and have multiples. You can pick up a square for around $20 which is enough for a couple of sections. I was swapping mine daily and hosing and disinfecting.
  20. I also think you were right to remove your puppy. I would never place my well socialised adult dog in that situation never mind a puppy. To much can go wrong. I don't really encourage my dogs to play with other dogs and especially strange dogs where I don't know the owners or the temperaments of the other dogs.
  21. That is unless your a Brittany - my BCs have no issue with spillage around the bowl but the Brittany on the other hand even with one of those bowls manages to scatter huge amounts of water.
  22. Good news - I would still consider a consult with Dr Jaime sometime - if the dog has a weakness there you can do things which will build muscle and condition and reduce the risk of future injury. Preventative conditioning is hugely important.
  23. All sort of depends on what the vet has actually found which doesn't seem very clear to me - if they believed the cruciate was ruptured I am surprised your vet didn't at least discuss the option of surgery hence why I would be seeking another opinion. From personal experience if the cruciate is ruptured then yes I would recommend going ahead with surgery and did do with my 13 year old BC who was otherwise in excellent health minus the ruptured cruciate. You will likely get arthritis in the joint whether you do surgery or not.
  24. I don't think she would actually operate - she is more on the rehab side of things and would work with your vet or whomever you chose to do surgery if you opted for that path (and I am sure would have her own recommendations on vets in Sydney if you went down that path). I don't know what she would advise as to whether she would suggest you went ahead with surgery or not but if she felt rehab might be all that is required then I am sure she wouldn't suggest surgery unnecessarily either.
  25. Dr Jaime is a vet physio so a little different from your standard vet - she has additional rehab certifications and has spent a lot of time training over in the states. She has been a godsend in working through my problem orthopedically challenged girl and getting her on a suitable regime which helps her live her life to the best she can. My girl has had at least 5 specialists involved in her treatment over a number of years and none have provided me with the resolution to her issues that Jaime has managed to provide. I just wish we lived in Sydney and could have more regular access to her rather than every 3 months when she happens to visit for follow ups. I know of another dog who was quite lame and under the care of a regular vet who recently saw Jaime for the first time and the dog is now on the way to doing much better then she has in years.
